Hello, My real name is Don, but I love the book Atlas Shrugged, thus my handle.
A few week’s ago, I came to SBG as a lurker with serious angst about making a commitment to go Sly after a 10 year journey with a hair piece from HCM.
I need to be honest when I say that my HCM experience, while expensive, wasn’t all that bad. I was lucky in that I had a “good” one that very few recognized as a hairpiece.
But I knew, and the anxiety over being found out, coupled with the hassle and cost, made me start considering SLY.
I have been considering this move for the last 5 years, and unfortunately, it has taken my Mom getting terminal Cancer and losing her hair through Chemo to push me over the hump.
Two weeks ago, thanks to the sage advice and kind support from SBG members, I finally took the plunge and shaved that permanent hat off my head!
The last two weeks have been exciting, fun, encouraging and even tearful at times.
Tearful, from myself when I revealed my new look to my Mom and Dad (Mom cried in happiness that I would honor her so)
All the others have been extremely positive.
Comments I received..
“You look thinner!” (I have recently lost 56 lbs, so this was an extra spice!)
“You look younger!” (I never dreamt that this would come up! Yay!)
“You seem more confident!” (I am! No more worry over “showing” at the edge or if my hair was sticking up in back, no more fear of people stranding behind me!)
“You have a great shaped head for that look!” (another surprise to me!)
My personal favorite….”Your new nickname is “sexy head~!” (Best comment ever!)
These and more have more than confirmed my decision, and I am NEVER going back to the rug nor even a horseshoe.
If you are like I was, and stressed over going sly from hcm, don’t hesitate, don’t overthink it, don’t worry about anyone elses opinion, and just do it.
You will most likely be happy and thrilled with your decision!
Lastly, I wanted to thank SBG again for the support and I am happy to be a new member here and promise to be a good poster that adds to the quality of the community.
Thank You

Thanks for the kind comments on my Mom, its going to be a very, very rough path for us in the coming months. I will post updates here and there in the forum too, I know I will probably need some friendships to help me get through this emotionally.
The guys here were so darned supportive of this decision, that it came very quickly.
Now if I can just manage to get some tan on this whit helmet I'm wearing!
