Title: Soon to be sly
Post by: AHedlund1 on April 27, 2007, 10:05:01 PM
Hey Sly Guys, I'm 23 and need to go sly soon due to some serious thinning on the front and sides of my head. My father recently went to sly in support of my Aunt going through Chemo, and he looks great. The only problem is I think my scalp has some serious issues. I don't know if its Psosriasis or what. Im sure some of you have gone through this. Should I see a dermotologist or is there something over the counter you guys could recommend.

Yeah, I would recommend shaving it, but it's also wise to see a dermatologist if the issue isn't resolved by shaving it.

The reason why you have scalp problems is because of the hairloss.
Im guessing you get spots and sores, the second because of scratching, the first because of the state of your scalp from the oils that your producing due to your genetics. From what I know try Nizoral, it should make your scalp alot healthier

I don't know what kind of problems you are having, but before I shaved I used to get alot of serious looking red spots and bumps, especially on the sides of my head.  It was also a reason that made me hesitant to shave.

Well, I have been SLY for only 2 days now and the red spots have not shown up yet.

Like the rest have said, you need to just try it to find out.  Like you, I had some serious thinning problems that made me very self-concious about my hair.  I kept cutting it shorter and shorter and had been wearing somewhat of an "high-and-tight" look for the last couple of years.  Because of the extremely thin hair on the sides of my scalp, none of the hair styles ended up looking very good and I just looked like a bald guy with a few sprigs of hair spaced here and there.  I think shaving is a definite improvement.  Just have to give it a try. O:O

Welcome to SBGs! I'm confident between the years of experience in this forum and, if need be, your dermotologist you'll be able to resolve any problems, quickly.  8)

Welcome AHedlund, nice to have you on board.  Like Kalbo said, others on here have voiced similar problems and can give you some words of wisdom.

Welcome to SBG AHedlung1! I am on day 8 of slyness and was worried about my scalp due to issues I had when I had hair. I also thought I had a "hole" on the back right side of my scalp for years, but when I shaved there wasn't. One suggestion I read on the forums here was using the apricot scrub, which I use religiously now. Not sure how well it will work with hair, but without its been awesome!  :)

I've heard of such issues clearing up after a headshave.  You'll actually have a healthier scalp since you'll be able to apply moisturizers and other creams right on the skin.  If it continues, I'd recommend Nizoral which is an antifungal shampoo.

Welcome... good advice all around here.  That, plus a dermatolgist if needed, should solve your issues and get you on the right track.

You could always go to a dermatologist first to see if there is anything they can do before you shave so that there is no skin irritation once you shave.  But it will definitely be better for your skin once you do go sly so that you can apply different products which will help your skin.

Welcome... first thing first, do it, I was worried at first too...especially because I had no choice and was hiding it for 7 yrs. At first, my head was irritated and I had razor bumps too, but after 3 weeks,my head is good 2 go, I guess it got used to the slyness.

I shave in the shower and start with hot water, then put on the HeadShed and some Neutrogena shaving creme, I let it sit on my head for a couple of minutes and then shave, after I am done I get under really cold water (which feels great after the head slicing) and then apply some ClearHead. After 3 weeks, my head feels and looks great, its addictive too, I shave everyday.

Good Luck Bro.

I know Schro had some problems before shaving, can't remember what it was. It cleared up after he shaved though.

Welcome AHedlund1.  I too suffered from bad scalp problems before going Sly.  I used to get giant zits/pimples/in-grown hairs/whatevers on my head when I had hair.  That problem promptly disappeared when I went Sly.  I love it!!!! :D

Yup!  Do it bro... you'll love it!
I'll bet the scalp clears up too.  Use some HeadShed and when you're all done Clear Head.  (Both from HeadBlade - http://www.headblade.com/)   O:O

Shaving your head clean will help clear it up...as apposed to just buzzing it (buzzing it will make it flakier)...be sure to moisturize it a lot though!

Good luck dude!
