I have been DE shaving the face for about 4 years, and disposable shaving the head for about 5 months. My Merkur 34C did not perform well on my head. So I started using disposables. I was so pissed off by the cost of each blade. DE shaving is so much more cheaper. So, after all the research I bought a Merkur Futur. I have been using it for about 3 days, and my god......the best face shave ever and it works so good on my head. Baby smooth, and not a scary razor at all to use. Guys, you have to try this. I wish I had this razor years ago.

Your glowing review has gotten me interested in checking one out...thanx!

I found this on YouTube. I'm thinking I might try one of these. It might help me to slow down and smell the roses, so to speak.

Yup, I just ordered one off of Amazon.

I've got my head shave down pretty good now, but I've been focusing on the face recently. DE shaving is intriguing....may have to try it out.

DE has changed my life. For one, I hated shaving. Now I love it. I used to have sensitive skin with a thick beard. With DE shaving, I do not have any problems. Now it has become a hobby. Plus, the Futur has changed my life even more. I thought my regular DE was nice, but man, the Futur is so smooth and comfy. Smoothed shave i ever got. Plus, blades are cheap. It costed like 10 cents a blade, plus I can get like 3-4 good shaves with each. Saves money, no plastic in the land fill and the most classic best shave you can get. Like I said, you need to get the adjustable Futur. The regular DE shaver does not work on my head.
For some reason, it is real addictive. I am on the hunt for an old Old Spice shaving mug. I love having a good looking shave den. I think I posted a pic of it on here. Check it out.

You sure make it sound great, Quantex. But double edged blades is so 1960. hummm?

Ahhh, yet more proof that life was simpler and better back in the 60s. 8)

Please post your review once you've tried it.

Will do, probably take a week to get here. I always go for cheap shipping.
Which makes perfect sense when ordering a $70 razor. :px
-
$70? ...they are sure proud of their razors!
-
Yes but after initial investment shaves are about $.03. No more expensive carts.
-
This sounds good to me in all aspects. I will have to investigate further, thanks.

Curiosity got the better of me (that and some $ for my birthday) and I bought the Futur. I am only two days into using it but I see this as being the beginning of a beautiful friendship. The shave is good and I love the customizability of DE shaving.

Excuse my ignorance - what is DE shaving?
-
Double edged, imho. O0

Double Edged - old school, single blade safety razors.

Glad you've found the solution and you're enjoying it :)
-
Thanks. Me too.

DE is the way us old timers learned how to shave.
-
So I'm guessing this has the possibility of being more dangerous? I've watched a you tube video and it doesn't seem too different. Is the main difference the blade is not in a cartridge?
-
Im glad you are liking it. I love it. Its been almost a month. What any awesome shaver.

Very true...and we flew a lot of hours in the C-47, too. O0

From what I'v read, you have more control of the shave. Apply more pressure to areas that can take and less where you tend to get irritation. Also, I like the old school factor of it all! ;)
Also, with it being a single blade there is less opportunity for irritation. For every one pass with a DE you'd be making at least three at once (or more) depending on the blades in your cartridge of choice.

You guys have just about got me sold on this. A few questions Doug: did you find it easy to use right away, or was there a learning curve?, and about how long does a blade last you?.
I'm sure I'll have more questions as I think of them.

DE's are not as forgiving as the 2011 type of razor. (Fusion etc.)

It was fairly easy and I was very hesitant/slow because I didn't want to have a blood bath. I got very few nicks, and the ones that I did get were minor. What I've read is that a "bad shave" isn't necessarily a result of a bad razor but a not so sharp blade or a technique issue. It's definitely a YMMV sort of thing.

Agreed, but with time and practice I think that they can beat out a Fusion or the like. Different strokes for different folks.

I have sensitive skin and hated shaving. Now I love it. It has turned into a hobby since I stared DE shaving. Plus I love the fact that is is about one cent per shave. I can get about 5 shaves per blade. Plus you can build a sweet shave den. Pick up alot of fun scents and show em off....See my other post for pics.

Are there any more reviews or verdicts, yet? I'm as anxious as a one-eyed cat watch’ n two rat holes, to hear what y'all think.

go to badgerandblade.com....

Thanks quantex, I'm really interested in this myself, so some input from those who have gone the DE route would help. O0

DE is the only way. I was an M3 user...yadda yadda yadda. Tried DE and I will never go back..plus you save alot of money. I hated shaving, not it is a hobby. As soon as I find a vintage old spice mug, I will be set. Sure I can buy one on Ebay, but I look checking out flea markets and Goodwill. Im sure one will show up.

DE is the way us old timers learned how to shave.
This is very true...we watched our Daddys and had to use the Gillettes we were issued in the service. A few years after my retirement from the Corps I secretly bought a sissy razor...a Schick Injector. It was sweet compared to....light and gave a smooth shave w/o blood(not much).
A few nights ago I was scraping off 2 days of growth from my head and face with a Fusion/shave oil/gel and was thinking how this experience would have been back in my DE Gillette dayz. Doug, Quantex and Buddha, I just can't imagine it being pleasant.
-
Like I said. I hated shaving. Now with a DE, it is awesome. Turned into a hobby!!! Less irritation, plus the blades are super cheap, and better for the environment. Hey that is me.
-
I was just perusing Amazon and a DE razor popped up...the Edwin Jagger De89lbl.
http://www.amazon.com/Edwin-Jagger-De89bl-Double-Safety/dp/B003LW4L2W/ref=pd_luc_sbs_02_02_t_lh
It had mostly 5 star reviews and many wrote that it was better than their Merkur razors....any opinions?
:-\
-
I don't have experience with it. I've heard that people like the EJs.
-
No complaints with my Merkur. Only use it on my face.
