I tried shaving my head a few years ago and people said that I looked sick because I am so thin and pale, so I grew all of my hair back out and I now I want to try it again. The thing about it is I am a Hospice RN and I have to look presentable and living in Southern Alabama, some people don't look high on a shaved head. I am woundering what ya'll thing, will I look freaky or look like I am sick, or will i look ok? Should i go for it?

Go the guys here look sick? Of course go for it and it could be that those patients who have lost hair because of their illness will find your act supportive.
-
Don't worry about others...do what you gotta do.
Like Saintc's advice on showing support for others.
-
buddy, looking into the other's business is SICKNESS!
Don't be afraid of their opinions, do what's best for you!
And about looking presentable, I work as a waiter too! The only bald waiter in town! (I mean it), and ladies are looking at me as to a hot meal when I'm serving them!

When I look at an "RN" and see a clean shaven head and crisp clean scrubs, it tells me that person has personal pride in his appearance and his profession.
-
RN, just wondering what changed since three years ago when you first shaved your head? Are you in the same geographical location with the same job?
You seemed happy being BBC then.
Just curious. :-\

I'm in the same location, but with a different job. Before, I was a third shift PRISON RN, now I am a first shift HOSPICE RN. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!!
-
i am a very proud RN also and i love my slick chrome dome and i wear it with pride. heck... some of my patients mistaken me as a doctor. O0

Hi RN, you have done it before and liked it. There is no reason why you would not go back. I bet you would love it more now more than ever.
-
@ WARHAWK: well that makes me feel better!! now how do i over come the other issue that i had the plast time i shaved, i had razor rash on the back of my heah nomatter what razor i used or how ofern or not i shaved. any advice and are ya'll sure that a bald head will suit me????

You might be applying too much pressure when shaving the back of your head. Be more gentle and try rubbing ice cube after shaving. Works for me.
-
definitely do a cold water rinse and ice cube rub after head shaving. also... apply some witch hazel afterwards. that should help out. keep us posted.

Dude.... don't worry about what pinheads say. You'll look a lot better bald than sporting those little tufts of hair.
-
I would not worry about the hospice issue at all.
I am an oncologist and most the patient's actually like that I shave my head (helps alleviate their concern for lack of hair).

LOL, in your profession, as I used to be ,and then assoication with what you do. Holy Crap, LOL so get alittle sun, or a spray tan put on some meat and you will look great ! ;) O0 8) And don't worry about it ! And your patient's which are most imortant , as far as I am converned will smile and be thankful they got you taken care of them .

I can assume that people not looking kindly on shaved heads would be the fact that it makes you look like a quote on quote skinhead?
This was a concern of mine as well.
Dude I am 6 foot four 250 pounds and I am tattooed heavily.
I am also a natural redhead which gives me very very very white skin
I look like a damn sheet of notebook paper walking down the street.
Women I try to impress need sunglasses when I take my shirt off.
I came to this conclusion:
No one is going to dictate to me how I decide to look.
I and I alone had concerns with the way my hairline was/is.
I and I alone decided I was going to do something about it.
If other people want to prejudge me or have preconceived notions or stereotype me in anyway
That is their problem not mine.
I'm not telling you that you should or shouldn't. However if you're having a desire to do so then you should do it.
Trying to accommodate people is a commendable thing.
However when it gets to the point to where you're second-guessing the decisions you want to make,
It has gone a little too far.
Best luck in whatever you decide to do.

Why has a year-old thread been resurrected? ???
Theman seems to be pretty good at dredging up dead threads haha, guess he doesn't always check the dates.
-
I diddn't even notice that this was a dead thread, until it was said... ;D
-
I don't mind the old thread. Good to see that Hot RN is still shaving his head a year later.
-
:) Yes , ;D I check the dates, but I find some topic's that haven't been appreciated so I do bring them back up and will continue to do so ! ;) Time goes one but there are many threads here that are very interesting. It seems there are more that like , than want to make a stink about it ;) ;D
Unless there are those that make posts that bring interest, bring out some of the achive posts ! That have good points ! ;) 8) ! Thank you brother's that have enjoyed this topic . Tyler also ask's us to save space and to do search , research prior to posting ! I do that !

If you'd researched a little further you'd have found that this entire thread is obsolete because the original poster recently posted that he started shaving his head again.
