Title: new barber
Post by: LauraH on October 16, 2011, 08:03:23 PM
So I tried a new guy at the Floyd's in Lincoln Park. He was ok and I'll go back but logisitics were more difficult. It's farther (close to an hour drive one way) and parking is rough.
He used a "close as you can get" setting on the clippers and then did an electric shaver to take it down to almost nothing. I was fearful that was all he was going to do but he then broke out there straight razor and shaved it further. It took an hour total and the conversation was good. He made me feel comfortable and there were two other crew cut hair length women there working!
I'm thinking the electric razor and straight razor was a lot of "attention" for the ole scalp, but I think some of the flaky layers were removed and my head might have a better shine.
So all in all... not bad but I miss Jason's meticulous method.

That does sound like the long way to shave it off, I would think it might irritate the scalp.

Howdy- thanks for the thoughts/replies. It was a long way to go and it was a lot of attention on the scalp but it was pretty smooth and he did ok. Believe it or not, part of the decision on where to go depends on the "comfort factor".  It's unusual for a woman to have her head shaved so if I don't get the- this was a bad idea- at a barbershop, that's half the battle. Josh even said he'd like to try a fade if I grow it out a little bit.
Just went and bought the Panasonic LA63 I saw on another topic here and I love it.
So thanks for the posts. It's reassuring that I'm not that odd. Some odd is ok though.  :)
Will try to post pics later. I'm on cell phone now.
xoxoxoxo,

About once every two weeks but it does vary based on certain social obligations when 1/4" for some reason makes a world of difference.  :-\
I like the look and feel but it is more than a chore. It's like going to a day spa- depending on how they shave it. It's like an adventure and relaxing.
Thanks again for the comments gentlemen.

LOL... very observant... and you can't even see the gun belt.. I was working at the PD when I snapped the pics. I do police at one place (part time) and fire (full time) at another.
It's funny when I walk up to someone. First they think I'm a guy-  :(   then they hopefully figure out I'm a woman-  ^-^ then they try to process it all.
I am very careful to be friendly, cordial, etc as soon as I can to put all their thoughts and sterotypes at ease immediately.... unless they are a dirtbag.. then it all works in my favor without saying a word.  :popo :x!

http://www.floydsbarbershop.com/

Doesn't look like they have any in MI.   :(
They have five shops in IL though....
Good luck... finding a place can be frustrating.
