I live in this neighborhood and have just been put in danger. This is a rough neighborhood and if I'm walking alone and mistaken for a skinhead - yea not making it out of that one alive!!

BUt wouldnt you be more likely to be left alone by everyone ? They think you are one of them, others think you are one and stay away ?

I live on a "bad" neighborhood too, people telling me : "I hate bald people".
Someone almost got killed because they "don't like his bald head".
I guess I'll survive :)

Back when we used to have a big skin head problem in north Idaho most of the guys I saw had buzz cuts, rarely smooth shaved. Most of the 'skinheads' in north Idaho now have full heads of hair, its more a term than anything now up here

Am I misreading the article--I didn't see anything about a Sly Guy getting wacked? Skinheads are sick individuals. Have they threatened you?

Unfortunately there are white supremacy groups just about everywhere.
Exactly what does this have to do with shaving your head? Unless you tattoo it like the person in the picture of the article and join a supremacy group.

The neighborhood is rough. Cant afford to move. The area is full of gangs and drug dealers who dont ask before they just beat on someone for looking a certain way or looking at their drug deal going down. I dont need a bigger target on my back being a white guy of European decent.

Yes, I was reading a report by the SPLC and there are hate groups/skin heads in about every state...it's really a shame that you are in such a bad situation. Best of luck.

Auch, so bad to read this. Ignorance kills. And it surely must be a comfortable thing (for silly and narrow-minded persons) to judge others by their outlooks, but...
a.) I know from experience that one can be an ideological skinhead, even if his hair is so long that he could sit on it.
b.) Taking a bald person for a skinhead... well... what about, for example, Buddhist priests?...

You're a well dressed guy (from your avatar), surely they'd see the suit and think twice? I've been worrying about being taken as a skinhead considering I'm visibly tattooed, but I'm really sorry to hear you're in such a tough spot. I hope you find a solution that doesn't compromise who you want to be.

I don't see it as a practical problem, because no one will touch you.
Nazis will think you adimire them, and the others will not buy the thing sly guy/nazis or, if they will, they will be also be intimidated and will stay away from you.
Maybe tre problem could be psychological for you, because you don't want to be considered a nazi, but if someone judge the book by the cover... you know... better loosing than keeping such a person.

The term skinhead has different meanings in different places. I was one meself still got the boots and braces and wear a MA1 jacket . I am mostly certainly not a nazi or a hammer skin . I think in the Us and parts of central Europe it has these connottations of the extreme right and ive been a bit careful how I dress when I Visit Germany . There are plenty of sly guys in Berlin its passe ,

I've been sly 15-20 yrs, very light skinned (white) and very heavily tattooed (sleeved up & neck) have lived and worked in what's considered a "tough" neighborhood (South Bronx NY) and have never been called a "skinhead" or any other thing due to my "sly'ness"... And I'm by no means a big guy... In fact, I see tons of guys doing the "sly" thing more and more just as a hair (or lack of) style.
Unless there's a "skinhead" population in that exact area, then maybe they may mistake you as one. They normally hang out with their own type and don't socialize with other types of groups, so just by your normal actions people would (should) know you're not associated with them.. I think people can tell.
