Hi everybody, I'm Cristian (Cris, without "h" ) from Italy.
I'm bald by choice.
My hairline has always been a large "M" by the age of 17. At first I was convinced that it was the first step into baldness, but today, 20 years later and same hairline, I know that this large "M" is simply my signatute hairline.
Nonetheless, I went Bald 4 times in my life, because for some reason I can't explain I feel much more as I really am.
Now I'm feeling somewhat ready for the 30 days rule.
I bought a Philips Headgroom yesterday.
Here are some recent photos, before and after.
As you can see, I NEVER went COMPLETELY sly and smooth.
Just need some encouragement, you know.. ::)

Buon giorno :)
M? Cosa fai?
-
Ok, I understand what you mean about the M now :D
The Phillips Headgroom is going to do nothing to help you get rid of it. Its a pointless piece of machinery, in my opinion.
You need a razor ;) You dont look bad at all, but if you want to smooth out your hairline so that its not as noticable, you need to use a sharp razor ;)
-
Buongiorno, grazie :)
If you follow my hairline you can notice that it draws an "M" ;)
But now I want a Smooth, clean, Head, like yours :)
-
A smooth, clean head is an easy step from where you are now. Wash your scalp, lather up with shaving cream and carefully draw a sharp new razor over the stubble. The result will be a smooth head.
Give it a try.

Oh :-[
Really? ???
-
Welcome.
You look good with and without hair. Even if you shave with a razor, you have light skin and dark hair so the hairline will still be visible even though your head will be smooth. Anyway, that shouldn't stop you from giving it a try and doing what you want with your head.
-
Just do it!!! You won't regret it!!! O0
Welcome to SBGs!!! 8)

You've come this far. Might as well see it through.

Well I think so, but others might have a different opinion. If you want a completely smooth head, then I think you need to use a razor. However, if you are the same as many other Italian men, who have dark and thick hair strands, you'll never get rid of the M completely, but it's not a bad thing. In your bottom picture, I think you look very good. Certainly better than when you had Hugh Grant hair :)
Don't stress over it. You look good. Give the Phillips a few tries but for the closest shave, the IMO, you need hot water, a good shaving cream, and a sharp razor.
Non essere sottolineato, si guarda bene ;)

Oh What a response, what a community.
In a few minutes... such many answers, and all really useful.
You are giving to me a variety of previously unknown insights.
Thanks everybody...
Wow I'm really surprised and amazed.
-
You can do both: shave first with the Philips shaver, then lather up and use a razor. The Philips will take your hair down close to the scalp and the razor will do the rest to get you nice and smooth.
Good luck - you'll enjoy it!

Very true. I don't think there's such a thing as a consistently perfect shave. I could shave my head now and get a perfect shave, and I could do the exact same things in the morning and my head will feel like a cactus and I'll have to shave again. So use a whole range of methods and machines and razors. That's what I do. It's all about trial and error.
-
It is all trial and error. I use the Philips Headgroom. I started using it a few months ago because I started developing some skin problems from the blade. It does a decent job. I just shaved my head with it a few minutes ago. I was too lazy to get around to it earlier in the day as I normally would. Having a few extra hours' growth gave the Headgroom something to grab onto and I got an exceptionally close shave. On a daily basis, it doesn't provide as close or long-lasting a shave as the blade does, but it's a small price to pay to keep my skin blemish-free.
For a first timer, I would suggest using a blade. It's a lot easier than using an electric shaver and will allow you to fully appreciate the benefits of a smooth shave.
-
Well I choose the Philips Headgroom because of this opinion:
http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=15253.0
This was a very positive review so i went with it
But i'm getting the point...
Blades are better and give you more smoothness.
And oh... the Hugh Grant thing killed me! :*))
I'm still smiling.. I have stomach cramps...LOL
-
Razor x, you anticipated me by few seconds :)
-
Some of the fun of being bald is the trial and error of finding a good shaving routine. I started shaving with only a blade, then switched to an electric shaver followed with a blade. I get a nice smooth shave and very little irritation.
Have fun experimenting - you'll find something that works for you.

I've never heard any good reviews, have you?
-
Looks great. I'm a fan of electric razors. I use a Panasonic razor and have had very good results.
-
The bald head really suits you! It looks so much better than the stubble you had in the first pictures. Keep it smooth.

I'm a Panasonic user along with steel, but never heard a good review on the Phillips. Have you heard any...?

good work!

Can't say that I've heard positive or negative.
The first razor I got for my head was the Conair CleanHead. I've read both good and bad about it. Worked fine on me but the clipper tabs break easy if you are using it for a buzz cut. If you're just using the razor part it does a pretty good job and sometimes I still use it mid day for a quick touch-up.

Cris,
The smooth dome looks great! Enjoy it...and welcome to the club!
-
The shaved head looks a thousand times better than the stubble. Congrats for making the step and keep it like this. Just keep shaving
-
First of all: thank you! What a response! Thank you... really.
Now: Philips Headgroom. A review, ah?
Ok.
I use it.
No blades.
Let me say that it works well but it takes time.
For people who, like me, are not going bald there is a problem of hair density.
Hair are thik and the density is remarkable, so you have to do many passages.
The razor will do its work, but a certain amount of time (and patience) is required.
Neverthless, in my opinion, Philips Headgroom is a good, reliable, weapon ;)

We all have differnet tools and techniques. If it works for you and you're comfortable than thats all that matters. :)

Complimenti, stai proprio bene pelato! O0
I know that you are thinking something like this :Xo! :x!
But we are basically saying in italian the same things that all of us have already said in English.
No secrets going on... ;)
-
Cris, it's an awesome look for you, man. Welcome to the world of SLY.
-
Hey Cris,
YOu look awesome. Keep it up. Very handsome
-

Grazie!
It is impossible to describe the feeling...
I shave my head every day now.
I really like it... but I enjoyed even more your response.
Really really a warm response...
No words.
Just thank you all.
Yes, there are still some people out there saying "Bald people would PAY for some hair: your are lucky, you HAVE hair, and what do you do? You cut 'em. Don't know why..."
But the vast majority has been positively impressed... I like the way people stare at me: "they seem to think 'WOW, that guy.. cool...'..." O0
