Mine is like a brillo pad which has been infused with rose thorns (I kinda like it that way, but only kinda)

Sort of, mostly letting it grow out more, now 1".  I also found a reasonably priced shampoo and conditioner, Mane N Tail.  http://manentail.com/
Then I am using Professional Silk Works rubbed into the wet mitten.  http://www.google.com/search?q=professional+silk+works&tbm=shop&aq=f
Works for me.  I would imagine someone carries it in the UK, but at what price?
