Hello. I am 14 and considering shaving my head. I recently got a #3, but people have made remarks about how short hair makes my forehead seem larger than it already is (approx. 5 inches). I am hoping that a shaved head will disguise my forehead, but I worry that this hairstyle will not suit a young teenager. What kind of impression does a bald teenager give you? Please keep in mind summer break has started, although I do have to attend an hour of school this week to complete my exam. Any input would be appreciated.
Please do not disregard my post and/or ban me due to my age. There is nothing that I will be exposed to that I have not already encountered. I am here to inquire this community about shaved heads - not to be immature.

Go for it ! :) As a kid I got clippershaved BALD from June-Sept. and the neighbor kids teased me alot. I had a high forehead (even then before I started losing hair) and looked pretty much sly with med. blonde hair. Its summer, do the head shave. Enjoy the look and feel and total freedom ! Keep it that way all summer and you may not want to go back to hair ! :D

Although I tend to shy away from trying new styles in fear of being criticized by others, you have strongly persuaded me to completely shave my head. Thank you so much! Its time I build some self-esteem. ;D
Edit: Although contrary to my previous post.... could someone provide me with a free bald rendering site?

What do your parents have to say about it?
-
My parents don't mind as long as I don't look completely outrageous bald.
I was told that since my hair is black, the remaining stubs would clearly outline where my hair grows and that my forehead would still be noticeable. Is this true?

Yes, if you've got dark hair there will be a lot of shadow. And because you're only 14 your hairline will still be quite visible. Take it down to a #1 and see how you like it. It will quickly grow back to a #3. If you like the #1 and are feeling adventurous, then go for the full shave. Just bear in mind that there aren't very many 14-year-olds with shaved heads so you'll likely stand out from the crowd. It will grow back to #1 in about a week. Are you prepared to live with a bald head for a week if you don't like it or if your friends tease you about it?

I think with black hair that there would be some shadow but I don't know that that would be a bad thing necessarily. The advice that I would give is to be careful about your clothing and your presentation. Like combat boots with red laces worn with bloused pants and bomber jackets might be ill advised if you're in an area with a skinhead problem. And remember to be your usual friendly self in your dealings with people. We had a thread in here about sly being mistaken for racist skins and what most of the guys said was that projection of attitude is mostly what makes people look outrageous with clothing a close second.
P. S.: What is "bald rendering"?
-
Thank you Razor X, I'll cut my hair to a 1 and progress from there if I feel the need.
By bald rendering, I was referring to superimposing a bald head on a picture of myself to get a rough look at what I'd look like.
Thank you to everyone. :)

Since there will be a lot of shadow, will my forehead still be highly noticeable? How would I achieve a close shave?

I have a friend's son who is 14 and has a very high hairline, he wants to shave his head too. do you have the ability to post a photo on here? that way I can show my friend's son that he wouldn't be the only boy that shaved his head.
-
14 sounds a tad young, honestly.
-
Way too young, in my opinion. How about a buzz cut????
-
I'm reassessing my choice to shave my head... what kind of head shape best fits a bald head? My head is straight on both sides and pointed at the the top.
I am currently sporting a 3 buzz cut and although the haircut is comfortable, I dislike it because it makes my forehead look huge. I think I might have a receding hairline, if that is possible at my age. I look decent with long hair, but it gets in the way of sports and with the recent 35 Celsius weather, I can't imagine having long hair again..
-
There is no "best shape" for a shaved head. Everybody always thinks there's something wrong with the shape or size of his head. Rarely does that actually turn out to be the case.
It is possible to have a receding hairline at 14, but it's rather unlikely. Are you sure that it wasn't that way all along and you never noticed until you cut your hair shorter? At any rate, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure you look just fine with the buzz cut.
-
Stick with a buzz cut for now, wait a couple more years before you shave it all off. I agree with driscoll and marty that fourteen is a bit young for a shaved head.

How about if I throw another angle on this.
I talked to my friend (Ben) who I about earlier. He did it. HE went sly. He shaved his head completely. He decided besides feeling better about his hairline, he is going to use it for good.
Tomorrow I am going with him to the Children's hospital to visit cancer patients. He will show them that being bald can be cool. He LOVES basketball and thinks he looks like some of the players....LOL he said if he works on his tan for a while, he will look A LOT like them, LOL, I almost ROFLMAO.
So, you could do that. I will take pic's when we go to the hospital if they allow me to (patients privacy and all).
So, if you haven't decided yet, you could do what Ben did. and do what he is going to do.
-
Hey Daven,
I went down to no guard today and I love it! I haven't fully decided if I want to go a step further, but I think a picture of your friend might guide me. I would greatly appreciate it if you could post pictures of Ben.
And God bless you both for visiting cancer patients - that's an extremely thoughtful gesture. Maybe I could visit at a cancer hospital.. I need volunteer hours anyways!
Thanks!

I am about one year older than you and I have shaved my head completely bald and I love it. I had a full had of hair and I just got sick of having hair so I decided to have shaved off. So I say go for it and don't worry what other people say about it as long as you like you are good don't let other people influence your decision take pride of who you are
