tough question...........
Headblades aren't very expensive, especially since I use Atra cartridges.
That being said, I refuse to use disposables.

Tough call, though i think less damage would occur by using good blades & a mediocre shave cream. You can always prep your melon with hot water and use a little soap lather before you apply any mediocre shave cream.

I'd definitely prefer a good razor. It would help compensate for mediocre cream IMO.

It's gotta be a good razor.  Not necessarily expensive.  I use Schick Extreme 3's and get 22 for about $20 at SAM's Club.  I have butchered my head with a bad razor.

This is one area in which the word "economize" does not exist. We all have our own horror stories as to what happens when you get cheap. Mine concerns buying a bag (what sensible person buys razors by the bag?) at the Super Duper Market thinking......for touch ups or that one little place I missed these will do. As happens I'd had some surgery and there was a nurse each day to do wound care and dressing. One day as she came through the door her expression wasn't one of nursely interest but of horror. Her first words were, "Jesus, what have you done to yourself??????" Well, what I'd done was use a "disposable" razor to mow down a few fuzzy patches at the back and....missed but sliced my head about as deeply as you can a golf ball with a sand wedge. What I  had failed to notice was that the blood was running down my back, pooling just above my shoulder and, finally oozing down my chest. That took two stitches and a butterfly suture to repair.

You know the moral: Don't use cheap razors, especially the ones that come in bags......have I said enough? I believe I have.

Most definately a great razor.  I am ready to try something different, but I have about 15 more Mach III blades left  :)

Give the HeadBlade a try, I bet you'll love it.

To answer the original post: The blade makes all the difference, as the fella's have already alluded to.   O0

I'll add to the "Good Razor" camp, it's best to invest the good money in the thing that will actually be doing the cutting.
