Title: One heck of a day!!!
Post by: jusbnme on April 18, 2007, 07:16:31 AM
Man my sly bros., I had a pretty rough day yesterday.  My son woke up at 4am crying and throwing up.  So I tried to calm him and just give him some juice and water.  But he threw that up as well.  This went on until about 10am when he finally went to sleep for a while.  I thought it was just a bug or a virus until I got to thinking that he hadn't peed all morning.  Usually he'll go at least once an hour.  So then I started getting worried and called his Dr.  She said to bring him in a little later.  So I got him up around noon and tried to feed him a light lunch.  He did alright for a while but then threw that up and still had not peed.  So I got him to the Dr.'s around 1pm and she said that he had a stomach virus and was badly dehydrated.  She had me take him to my local hospital so that they could give him an IV to get him hydrated since he wouldn't keep nothing down on his own.  They had to put a catheter in him because even after 2 bags of IV fluid he wouldn't pee on his own.  I felt so bad for the little guy.  He was so exhausted he just kept passing out on my chest while they were trying to work on him.  We were there until about 10pm.  He finally started peeing on his own and keeping oral fluids down.  He's doing better this morning.  He's just really tired.  My new forum pic shows in detail how the day went yesterday.  Man, people can give you all the advice they want but you never really know what parenthood is like until you actually experience it.  Oh yeah, welcome to parenthood Mr. T.  Just playing man.  It's great.  It's just like anything else...You have the good and you have the bad.  Most of it it's all good though.   O0

I'm with ya there Lance, my daughter broke her arm on Sunday at my mom's house. They live about 30 miles from us outside of town, so we met in the middle to pick her up. My wife and I took her to the closest hospital, and got her checked in. They checked it out, took X-Rays and all that fun stuff. After the X-Rays, the doc came in to tell us it was broken, and they had to transfer her to the main hospital to have it set, because the orthopedic doc had to do it and place some pins. It took two nurses, my wife and I to hold her down so they could start the IV. They ended up having to do it twice cause she moved. Then, since she was on narcotic pain meds, they wanted to transport her by ambulance. They got her strapped in the ambulance gurney and ready to go. I drove our van, and my wife rode in the ambulance with her. I left about five minutes before them, and I was pulling into the parking garage, my wife called and said an 18 wheeler turned over in front of them and they were stuck in traffic on the Interstate. So, the police got everyone on the ramp to move over to one side, and gave them a police escort down the ramp to the nearest exit. Finally got to the main hospital and got her prepped. They put two pins in her arm and set the bones. We made it home about 10:30 Sunday night.

Wow to both of you! Hope your youngins' are doing better this morning.

Lance, strange coincidence. My wife & I were watching an episode of "House" that was sitting in our stored shows on Tivo, and the premise was a pregnant lady who was carrying a baby that was making her sick. One of the symptoms the fetus had was that it couldn't urinate on its own and the kids swollen bladder was inhibiting the lungs from developing. They made an incision in the womb and did a fetal operation and saved both the child and the mom.

Happy ending.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.  The little guy is doing a lot better since last night.  He has been keeping fluids down all day and peeing like he's supposed to.  So I guess the dehydration is under control.  The only thing now is he screams like a mutha when he does pee where it's sore from the catheter.  It makes me cringe every time he starts to scream and squirm around.  The dr. said it's normal though and that it should get better after a few days.

Uh, Lance...not exactly a walk in the park yet...man that stuff makes me uncomfortable, especially on someone who doesn't really understand....aww, little trooper!

I guess i've got lots of "fun stuff" to look forward too!

Hang tough, my bald brutha!

Yeah, there is quite a bit to "look forward to."  It's crazy and just plain weird in a way...It's like after you have a child you see what everyone was telling you about before you had the child.  I hope that made sense?  ???  :/O  But seriously...the things my mom, grandmother, other parents, etc...Those things they use to tell me that I actually wasn't really listening to, are all coming back now that I have a child.  I find myself constantly thinking in my head, "Oh, so this is what they were all yapping about."  And then some of the time after thinking that I think, "Maybe I should have listened a little better."   :-\  But hey, it's all good.  There's no right or wrong way to do things as long as you are doing the best you can.  There's definitely no instruction manual!!!  And forget all those "children books."

Lance, I hope your boy is doing better now, I know what's it's like to have to hang out in the hospital with your kiddo.

PigPen, I wish your daughter a speedy recovery. I know it has to be hard taking care of a 5 year old with a broken arm.

In October of last year both of my kids were in the hospital within a month of each other. My Daughter was in for 5 days and my son was in for 3. It was a nightmare. My best friend went in as soon as my daughter got out, too. That was a terrible October/November season for me, I spent WAY to much time at the hospital.

Exactly what happened to my son, I must have caught.  I spent all of Friday night puking and in and out of the bathroom.  I don't think I had it as bad as him though, or at least my immune system was better because I already feel good.  I just made sure I kept a bunch of liquids down and ate salt crackers all day.  Now that I'm feeling better I can't wait for tomorrow.  I'm gonna throw down some food baby!!!  That's how I always am after being sick.
