It was mentioned by a guy newly sly that he was told by a female friend that he was more approachable. The question is whether in general a guy who is sly is more approachable?
We need to have some of our female members comment on this.
My own opinion is that a sly guy is likely to be judged as more approachable. My reasoning is that the normal social convention is that a male initiates a personal approach. A sly guy (by definition) is somewhat less conventional and more likely to have a female initiate a relationship.

We have female members? ???

According to stats it is 8 to one ratio men to women

intex, why do you put your response inside the quoted text? It makes it hard to see what is quote, and what is your response.

Thanks, SB--it's been a question for me too.

When a female approaches me she usually has a nasty look on her face and a baseball bat in her hand . . . :x!

And me!!!
Intex... place your comment AFTER the final [/quote] and it will show properly and be easier for all to read and know exactly what part of the comment is yours.

As for being more approachable....... I don't know about all that.
I'm 6'-1", 225 lbs., shaved head and visible tattoos..................... and I consider myself one of the most approachable guys you'll ever meet. But a LOT of people are instantly intimidated by me for whatever reason.
A couple weeks back I was at a pub with a couple friends after work for a pint or two. A woman about my age approached the bar and I moved to the side so she could get in to order a drink but she made a visible effort to avoid my opening and looked at me like I had the Plague.
I said "You can squeeze in here". Her response was "You look mean". I felt like saying "Well you're a prejudiced, stupid, superficial douche bag".............. but I just laughed and said "No problem" and closed up the opening while the fool stood there for 5 more minutes waiting to get served. My Friends were laughing theire asses off at her comment.

I absolutely agree with you. I have been trying hard not to do that but If I quote the only box I can type in is the quote box. Have not found any way to avoid that. This mail program works differently than any I have ever used. Would appreciate advise to do otherwise.

For some reason the program for this forum is not working for me. At moment every time I try now to get new posts it downloads a program - did it 11 times so far. would appreciate any help in using this program. Likely need to e mail directly as I cannot stay at this site - it really messes up my computer. I am on a Mac using safari. First time I have ever had similar problem. My e mail is: rbmorin11@gmail.com
thanks

When I first joined I could send quote in separate box, but no more. Bit earlier something got corrupted as I kept getting downloads - I opened one and then I got 11 more. My computer started acting up. It always right click when i clicked something. I quit all programs and rebooted. Computer would not reboot properly - finally shut down. I rebooted and it worked ok. Still on this site no way to message correctly so I logged out as I had earlier and re logged in. This corrected some problems. I logged out and opened firefox and logged in. Same problem in trying to send messages. I have had some problems in booting up - concerned my hard drive going out. Will take computer to shop this week.

It's the old "books by their covers" scenario.

It sounds like you downloaded a virus. Get that cleaned up and switch to Firefox or Google Chrome if you aren't already using one of them.

I am on a Mac. There are no viruses. If it was one it would the first ever anywhere. I have tried using firefox and it appears the same.

When I take a look at your posts it appears that the end quote tag is not being placed at the end of the qoute. Just make sure there is a [/quote] at the end of the quoted text.

I knew it was something I was doing or not doing. When I first entered here I could post the way I wanted.

I teach (grad students), so it's hard for me to judge whether I'm more or less approachable with a shaved head.
Socially, I'm pretty introverted, so I don't usually initiate conversations. Other people (not students) seem to be curious about it or maybe even attracted to it. So they tend to approach me.
-
Im an extreme extrovert so I havent noticed any change in my approachability with a full head of thick blonde hair vs being sly. I tend to initiate conversations with anyone and everyone around me so I dont really give folks a chance to be intimidated.

Students, particular grad students will not comment to you. It is my belief that others will feel less intimidated by a sly person and will initiate a contact.
