Hi guys, been a lurker for a while.
Hair started going quickly recently and causing real anxiety!
I just don't have the right face shape, head to pull it off, can't get the courage to even buzz it for some reason but obsess about it daily!
Any advice would be great, even dread going to the barbers now!
Can post a head shot if it helps.
Cheers.

Frankly I don't what shape face or head would be inappropriate for the sly look.

First of Moggo, welcome. If you need support to get sly and relieve the anxiety, this is the place to be. Many of us have stressed over whether or not shaving was the correct option. If you read many of the posts, you will discover that the anxiety over shaving was unjustiified. But since even the idea of buzzing your hair down is causing stress, start with something longer than a 1 and work your way down from there. If you need the encouragement, keep checking in here. I am sure you'll get plenty of support.

post the picture so we can see what you're talking about and I just about guarantee that no matter the shape of your head, unless it's a geometrically correct pyrimad, that there is another guy on here with a similar shape who is quite successfully and contentedly sly.
my own suggestion - get over yourself and do it. it's only hair and will be back to a buzz length in no time if you hate it. I can say that sly is a significantly better way of life than where you're at - been there and not interested in going back.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Not so in the view of others. From the photo balding is not that noticeable. I suspect you would look good sly.

Welcome to SBG!
As you read through the multitude of posts here, you'll see one common thing over and over again. Most of us wished we hadn't waited so long to take it all off. Shave it for 30 days. If you don't like it, let it grow back.
Stop balding, get sly.
-
If you are balding you can't tell from the photo. I don't know where you're getting ugly from. As others have said in this thread, much of the anxiety comes from the anticipation. I compare it to jumping in a swimming pool. Before you jump, you might be nervous, but once you're in the water, you feel great. Give it a shot. If you don't like it, it's not permanent. Whether or not you do decide to ditch the hair, you need to be more self-confident. You are an attractive dude and you're being incredibly unfair to yourself if you think you are ugly.
Take care,
Phil

Welcome to the best place on the net for advice. As others have said the most difficult part of the process is the anxiety leading up to that first shave. Imagine the sense of liberation we all felt, and you will too, when you just do it.
-
I think you'd look good with a shaved head given your facial structure. Give the 30 day rule a try - meaning shave for 30 days straight and then decide if you like it or not.
-
Welcome Moggo! Quit obsessing Dude..... there are bigger fish to fry in life. Try it, you'll looks good.
-
My best advice is just do it! Once you get rid of the hair there'll be no looking back.
-
I agree with Philip, who is very attractive I must say, you are being way too hard on yourself. You are a good looking guy, so just do it and post a new pic. You will not believe the confidence you will get once you go sly. I will never go back. :@`

+1 to everyone here.
Shave and be done with it.
There is no right head shape (all of them look fine with a shaved head).
I see around 5-7 bald heads a day on all types of people with all types of head shapes and scars and they all look fine (oncology clinic).
Also, do not listen to others (ie girlfriend, wife, mother) who tell you that you do not have the right headshape. They are just trying to manipulate you into not shaving.
There is no point in the balding process physically (yours seems to be early) where shaving is the right time. The right time is when you obsess about it so much that it detracts from the more important things in life. It sounds like you are at that point. Try the 30 day rule and see how it feels and then you will be able to enjoy yourself and life without wasting time obsessing over your hair.
just my 2 cents.

Just shave it! If you don't like it, in two weeks you'll have almost all your hair back. But I bet you'll love the new look and will stay bald!
-
I've tried to compare the picture of you with what you wrote about yourself. Have you a warped mirror? You're a good looking guy with a well shaped head. You'll never know what you'd look like peeled until you are. And, as you'll read in many other places, don't have an advanced case of regret as the last bit of foam falls, give it a month or two. This is summer-unless you're in the Southern Hemisphere-get some color on your head so that it matches your face and then "wear it" for awhile. Wait for the first person to say, "Wow, you look great, I wish I had the stones to do that...." Your opinion of a shaved head and yourself will rise.

Thanks for the responses guys :)
I do actually suffer with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (officially diagnosed, it is very much facially dominated) so it may well be swaying my judgement of myself I guess.
I am probably going to go the gradual route, 3, 2, 1......... and see how it goes :)
Thanks all.
-
Best of luck Moggo, you will look bloody awesome!
It is only hair at the end of the day no matter what we all think, we can look great with or without it!
-
Hi guys,
The day is nearing to try a buzz cut (no 3), problem is that I am convinced that my face, head shape is wrong for it. What do you guys think from the photo?
Your advice is appreciated.
My head is too long I think!
Moggo.
-
Don't worry too much about it. I found that it was impossible to picture myself bald. In the weeks running up to going sly, I constantly touched my head, trying to decide if my head was the right shape, whether I had flat spots or bumps, etc. Only when you're shaved or buzzed can you get the real picture.
And as everyone says, if you don't like it, the hair will grow back. However if my experience is normal, once you're sly you'll quickly forget what it was like to have hair. Seven weeks into being sly, when I look in the mirror I have a hard time remembering what I looked like with hair because sly is the new norm.
-

Not, just do it, I have a melon at 7 7/8's--the largest standard size and hats still aren't comfortable. Just do it--it is easier on the Sly Side--trust us on this one.
-
Welcome moggo
Just shave it.And go with the 30 day rule if you do not like
it.It will always grow back
-
Thanks guys, I have attached a picture of the top of my head, would buzz to number 3 be ok with this thinning?
Really appreciated all you help :)
Crown not captured but thinner, this was a few months ago so thinner since then.
-
All you need is a bit more confidence that you will enjoy buzzing down. When you get the no. 3 I bet 5 minutes wont go by when you are already curious about getting a no. 2. From your pics I find you to be a good looking guy who just needs a good, short buzzcut or headshave to really be very handsome :)
-
Thanks.
I am so cut up about all this, I know that is not the approach on this site and you do inspire me.
I just can't come to terms with even buzzing but hate it as it is. I find head too long, pale, ugly and feel that what hair I have takes the focus away from my face at least.
It is ruining my life and I am fed up of giving it so much power.
Problem now is as it is dark and thinning on the crown and down the middle if I buzz it will I look like Zinedine Zidane used to? So much termoil in my mind, sorry guys.
Rant over :)
-
When I shaved (last week) I didn't know if I'd stay with it, because I was laughing at myself every-time I caught a glimpse in a mirror! I'm finally over the shock. The 30 day rule is sound advice.
-
Whats up sly bros. Been awhile.
Listen Moggo. Im going to go against the grain a bit here.
You are barely losing your hair, at least in your pics unless your using some type of concealer.
If you want to shave your head--great. But you dont HAVE to.
Some guys are bald by choice but most shave because they dont like the look of a horseshoe around their head.
Why do you feel pressure to shave your head NOW ? You are an attractive guy, and you look like a big guy which ususally lends itself well to a shaved head. If your really gung ho, shave it down to like short, crew cut. See if you like that, but your hair looks just fine to me. And Im looking at it critically.

Haha, if you wanna see ugly check out my avatar. Point is I was twice as ugly before I went sly. Now I'm just marginally ugly. Big improvement!
-
I agree with Buddha..... he is only marginally ugly. I'm REALLY ugly. I've always been really ugly and shaving only marginally improved my looks. All sounds ridiculous doesn't it?
Get my point??
It will grow back if you dont like it Dude..... I said it before in this thread...... bigger fish to fry.
-
You are right, I think it maybe runs deeper than hair for me :-[
You guys on here are really inspirational and have a great way of putting things in perspective :)
I guess the answer is that I have never been confident with hair so why am I so worried about being without it!
Thanks.
Moggo.

Exactly. Your hair looks fine so if aren't ready to shave it all off, then don't. And you definitely don't need the drugs or HT either.
To answer your other question, a #3 buzz would look fine. In fact, #3 is not even that short, so go for it. If and when your hair loss worsens, then take it down a little shorter. A lot of times, it's easier to make the transition gradually.

Jeez I would love to have your jaw and that stubble then i would definitely shave my head, It would suit you GREAT I think, You look like you have a pretty stocky (large - strong) body as well which would add to the SBG look I think. I would like to shave mine but I'm way too skinny to pull of the SBG look, My mum said i would look like a leukemia patient :(. No offence meant to anyone suffering from any kind of illness.
Also mite add, like a few have said here you don't need to shave your head, your hair head and face everything looks great. O0
-
I used to have the same concerns about going sly. Once I did it, though, I liked it immediately. It's been only 24 days for me but I've already been told many times that I have a nicely shaped head.
-
Dan, you will not look like a leukaemia patient, I think you will look great sly. Don't worry what other people have to say now, because no one knows how awesome they look until they finish their first shave. I have a mate that looks very similar to you, and he looked great (until is wife told him to grow it long again...).
-
To the OP: you don't look like you're balding. You might have a slight receding hair line, but it's not a big deal. When I was in your shoes (I was 20/21, started to have a receding hairline at 17), I started shaving it shorter and shorter. First with a 3, 2, 1, so on. At 21 the thinning was really bad, so I started using a 0 guard. I've been using a 0 guard for while, but have just now started using a razor. Try that...you will still have hair for a while.
OR
Be really brave, shave it off, and see how you like it. I bet you'll look good. It will grow back if you want grow it out again. I think your hang ups on your physical appearance go deeper than your looks. You're no Tom Brady (who is?), but you're not a bad looking dude.
Trust me...the relief of not having to worry about your hair after you shave it is priceless.

My advice, too.
This is how I ended up with the sly look.
