Title: Is there a cheaper way to keep it smooth?
Post by: Integraoligist on May 24, 2011, 09:46:32 PM
Hey all,
Been shaving my head for almost 3 years now.  Always used a Mach3... and as we all know it's crazy how expensive these blades are.

I was given a HeadBlade Sport for Christmas 1.5 years ago, used it 2x's.  1st time cut a nice slit on the back of my head... 2nd time it took a freakin gash out of the top of my scalp about the size of a nickel! All in all, I took it back to Walgreens where they bought it from.

I've had a Norelco electric razor (the style with the 3 round blades) for about 12 years... I use it on my face and it still works great!  Never changed the blades on this thing.  It gives me a closer shave then the Mach3 against the grain!  So for my face, this rocks.  But when I try to use it on my head - no go.  It does not shave anything!

Noticed a couple people talking about some electric razors but their like $150

O yes, when using the Mach3 I also use Barbasol.  I tried that Gillette shaving gel, but it seems I get the same result from the cheap Barbasol.

Is there a cheaper route to go?  Is there a decent electric thats not $150 that will actually work (i know not as close as the Mach3 but still).

Thanks all!

Click on this link to Electric Razors on Amazon.com and you'll find many that will work for much cheaper than $150.

The Philips Norelco one's seem to be the same thing that I already have... now why do they shave so close and smooth on the face but not the head?

Every person is different when it comes to hair thickness and the way their hair grows.  I actually can't shave my face with an electric without breaking out like crazy.  Though, I'm fine if I shave my head with one; did so for about 2 years.

Ok, so what is the difference between the round norelco style electrics and the straight foil type?
the $150 ones people have suggusted all seem to be the straight foil type.

I've had better success with the round blades vs the foil blades.  I also prefer the wet/dry which allows me to use it in the shower.

Speaking in terms of cheap price wise, not quality, I would have to put my .02 in here and say that in my experience, I love Bic Comfort 3 disposables. They are about $3.50 for 4 razors and they last about 3 shaves (head & face). I usually use the $1.00 can of barbasol shave cream. For me, $4.50 a month for a smooth head and face is a darn tootin good deal. I never tried the fancy head slick or any product made for bald guys before, so I have nothing to compare it to.
