I've heard this comment a few times when a discussion comes up regarding my slyness. The two people that made the comment seemed shocked that I shaved everyday. :o Not in a why don't you let it grow out sort of way, but more because (and I'm speculating here) they didn't think the hair grew that fast.
I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar comment??
-
Yes. Most people don't seem to realize how quickly hair grows. They also seem to be under the misperception that it is a huge and time consuming chore to shave your head.
-
I've had that as a comment and a question, a comment from people, male and female, and a question--like this past weekend from a guy I saw that I hadn't seen for a while who's on the verge of using a blade having gone to a very tight almost no guard clipper. Not only to they not know how fast hair, or what's left, grows but also they are totally in the dark how uncomfortable stubble can be to some guys.
-
My hair is really thin so I can go 2-3 days without shaving. You can't see it...but of course I can feel it.
So everyone just assumes I shave everyday.
-
I shave everyday with rare exceptions. I really dislike the sandpaper feel of a day's growth on my head. Stubble on my face does not bother me that much, but I shave may face daily too.
People usually don't think of hair on your head growing as fast as facial hair.
I have to confess, I had some of the same lame thoughts before going sly, and that was one reason I put off taking the plunge. I thought it would be too much of a "chore" . Now that I'm nearing the one year mark, shaving my head daily is about a 10 minute chore that I look forward to.
On a different, but related note, I find that I get a closer shave and longer lasting smooth feeling on weekends if I shower and shave after being awake for an hour of two. Weekdays I get up early, and shower and shave just after rising.
-
I hate the sandpaper feeling as well so I shave my head every day. I shave my face less often. :/O
-
I miss shaving once a month at worst. Can't stand the feeling of an unshaved head anymore.
-
I shave everyday and I like the smooth feeling of my freshly shaved head
so very much O0 !

-
I haven't been asked if I shave everyday, but I hate the feeling of the nubs. If I shave early in the morning, I'm shaving again by 2 or 3 before work to get the shine back up O:O
Speaking of which, I think I will go shave :*))

Does it grow back if you shave it everyday? (just kidding)
1 time/week here. It's my weekend ritual
-
Would love to shave everyday but my skin can't handle it. So every 2 or 3 days is fine, even if I have to deal with the stubble. And yes, hair does grow back too fast in my opinion (I actually wonder if shaving it makes it grow faster).
-
I've only heard that comment from my wife. She says, "I can't believe you'd rather shave everyday than let it grow out and get a haircut (flattop) every three weeks and just fix your hair in the morning." She know not what it feels like to be SLY!! O0
-
My head is shaved every day. My face is shaved twice a week.
-
every other day here
-
Everyday. The guys who question why apparently have full beards or haven't felt their chin at five after shaving at seven. It's called stubble and, regardless of which end of your head it's on, it feels slightly untended. Too, I rather enjoy the ritual of shaving. It's part of my morning as much as the WSJ, coffee, orange juice and washing my teeth. On those strange days when I cannot, I feel a bit like a slacker. (I once tried to shave it in the lavatory of a plane. This was a poor idea for many reasons but still...I had to try.) At my age, I could go days, possibly longer, until anyone even noticed but that changes nothing; I do this for me not the viewing public.
-
I shave every single day. Like others have said, I find having one day's growth to be too coarse in texture. I prefer a completely slick scalp. O0
-
Everyday - if I don't get lazy - - -Hate the fuzz on top and the horseshoe fringe when I let it go - - -Looks and feels much better when I shave everyday
-
I started shaving in 1983 and have been asked that many, many times over the decades and never in a rude way. The NEXT question is always, "Do you use an electric or blade razor?" (Im a blade man). THEN, often, comes the remark from a man, is that he always wants to shave his head but doesnt have the guts, or from a woman that she wants her husband to shave.
-
I shave everyday. I can't stand it if I do not.
-
Every other day unless I have something special to attend to on a day that would normally be unshaven. I don't mind a little fuzz, just don't like when it gets so long that I have to break out the love beads.
-
I used to shave everyday (almost...) when I used to shave.
Now that my scalp is almost completely hairfree I seldom shave, every 2-3 weeks, as it looks bald anyway.
-
When I tell people I shave everyday, I get the same surprised reaction. When I explain that hair grows fast and feels like velcro by the night, they say they didn't realize that. Everyone seems to think that once your head is shaved, it stays smooth for days or weeks, i.e., "boy, being bald must save you lots of time in the morning!" When I say that it takes longer in the morning, but then I'm free all day because I never haver to check to see if my hair is combed or a mess, they usually chuckle.
-
When I first went sly, I shaved every other day. I still give myself days off now and again, but I feel like a slacker when I don't shave. I also think I look much worse with the one day shadow (but it's probably only in my head).
-
Everyday for me too. Cannot stand to have stubble. Must be smooth smooth smooth. Hey Slick A you are HOT :)
-
hey guys! :) havent posted in a while but still read on here nearly everyday haha, i found when i first started shaving i had to leave it a few days (because of irritation) but now i can shave everyday if i choose to, (depends what im doing) i think your head does get used to it and your technique improves.
-
I shave the dome everyday when I can swing it. Hate, hate, hate the feeling of velcro on my head!
-
I can't stand the stubble either. Some days when I get home from work, I do a quick shave with an electric razor to feel smoother - something I wouldn't have expected before experiencing it!

Yup - once you get a feel for a nice smooth dome, you're hooked! 8)
-
I shave my face in the shower and it's just a step up to do my head. As with many others, I'm hooked-after 15 years-on the smooth, shiny look. It's also easier to shave in the shower. You're already wet, it's warm and I have a fog proof mirror that facilitates the whole procedure.

Same here. I really feel like I can't be seen in public with any stubble on my head.
-
Every day, except when I've gotten a late one--around noon--on Saturday after doing the gym and yard. Then I will slack for Sunday, but that's pretty much it. I guess it's a "Pavlov's dog" response--a clean smooth head feels so good right after shaving it's a reward in itself for what little efforts involved.
-
Usually every 3 to 5 days for me. I don't mind a little head fuzz.
-
I'd love to shave every morning, it's the only chance if you can't stand a sandpaper like feeling, but most of the weekdays time is against me in the morning, so I would say I shave every other day with some exceptions where i do it daily
Apart from the stubble it's the look, I have dark hair which is not good for the shadow which I absolutely dislike.
Normally when I shave my head I also shave my face but if I don't I'm fine with stubble in my face.
I have read some posts in the forum where people seem to shave in the afternoon/evening or at least later in the morning, not right after getting up, and that by doing so they are stubble free for a longer time. Can anyone explain this to me? Is there any scientific or other evidence to support this?
Thanks

I like to start the day with a fresh shaved head.
Afther its shaved i go over it with aluin, it makes it super fresh
-
I'm new to this, but I shave around 0500 (slick and smooth). Around 1000, it feels like fine grit sandpaper. Is this normal? I wish the slick feel would last at least 12 hours.

How long you stay smooth depends on how you shave and your hair's natural growth rate. I shave at 6:00 AM with a Panasonic electric followed by a Gillette Fusion and I usually feel smooth until about 2:00 PM when the fine grit feeling starts to emerge on top. Prior to switching to the Fusion, I was using a HeadBlade with triple blade cartridges and the grit began to start earlier, say around 11:00.
I think we'd all like to keep the slick feel longer!
-
I mainly shave my head every second day because of my skin is a bit sensitive, but it also reduces some tearing of blades, and that's nice for a poor student. :XX

I usually run the clippers every day to keep what remains of my hair the same length. At the moment, it's fuzzed to 'no guard'. (i.e. very short). Youngest daughter says "That's not right!". But I like it. Looks almost bald. At this length, I need to buzz daily.
Just takes a moment before the shower in the morning.

Dutch for Alum.
An astringent.
-
i shave everyday as well, i also hate the sandpaper feel
-
As a bald guy, would you be surprised if you asked a man with hair if he washes and combs it every day and he answered yes? Yet people seem utterly amazed when a bald guy says he shaves every day. It's such a funny reaction!
-
I've been shaving everyday to keep it nice and smooth. If I do happen to miss a day it's really got alot of growth and uncomfortable.
-
I don't shave my head yet, but I do "cut" my "hair" with #0 every morning before leaving the house :)
-

I dont know what that is?

That's a blade designation for electric clippers with changeable blades. I have an Oster with 000 & 0000 blades. The more zeros the closer the clip.

Every day. Either my Remington electric or Gillette Fusion

Oh. I was imagining some kind of Romanian torture device :o The 0 setting on clippers, I know about. Been there/done that.

I shave every day, Like the smooth feel & clean look.

I shave every day, Like the smooth feel & clean look.
The feeling is very good, but I don't need to everyday.
-
I do shave almostg everyday but sometimes go every other day to aviod getting bumps. I love the smooth dome but want to avoid the bumps.
-
I shave my head on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a razor and shaving cream.
-
I shave it everyday :)
It makes me feel alot better, and more confident.
and yes, people asks me if I shave or just cut it, and how often.
and, when I tell them I shave it, they're like ":O how can you see on the back of your head? I guess you get ALOT of cuts"
and, then I say" I like Gillette racing, clean racing" :)
and when they ask me how often I shave it, they're like "so much time, you're crazy"
and then I reply" No, I'm just normal. you're just 50 years back"
-
Every day here. Sometimes twice if im going out in the evening. Sandpaper head is not a nice feeling
-
can't shave everyday, i'll break out if i do. so i let it go for about 2 or 3 days. sometimes i'll shave in between if i'm goin to a speical event.
-
I shave my head everyday. Sometimes twice a day if I am going out. Women love a smooth head 8)
-
I think I have it under control where I can shave three times a week...but because of razor bumps (haven't gotten many since using baby oil) shaving everyday won't happen....Waiting for the day my horseshoe becomes larger than life so I have less to shave!
-
I usually shave everyday. I don't like the feeling of stubble that builds up. I like it smooth.
-
i shave daily due to HATING stubble :P i like smiooth
-
I have been shaving clean every morning for 3 and half months. Once you get to know the intimate contours of your head (in my experience it took about three weeks), the removal process takes a lot less time! ^-^
Watch out for those ***gotcha***moments, however. Ever stay vigilant, against the stray NICK!!! Those NICKS bleed something fearsome >:(

Welcome lknight!
I've gotten into the routine of shaving every other day. My wife says she likes the "all over shadow" referring to beard and dome. I still prefer the slick feel and look.
-
I've been shaving everyday. I was just using an electric but now electric followed by Fusion. So far no nicks. 8)

Same here 120. I usually try to shave every couple of days during the cooler months. Once we start getting hot here, then it's usually daily.
-
i've been shaving daily for about a month or two. at first was just a electirc, then converted back to the razor recently. still doing it everyday people say they cant tell a difference in a days growth, but GOD i hate teh feel of it, So I slick it everyday.
-
I used to shave everyday, but i noticed that i'm beginning to have razor burns... But when i did it every 2 days, things became great for me... though i'm really tempted to do it everyday since it always gives you the shine and smoothness of the BALD...
How do you avoid the razor burns even if your doing the shaving everyday man?
-
Every day for me. Sometimes twice a day. The secret I think, is good prep, good shaving cream with a brush. Aftershave to seal the skin and clean it. Decent moisturiser, with aloe Vera. I use dr organics gel.

Witch Hazel and Aloe Vera after you shave.

Ido shave every day
That's the most common response I've had so far. People are surprised to learn that I shave my head every single day.

Been shaving clean every morning for 2 months.
Except one morning (for some reason). I showered, cleaned my teeth, put on clean clothes and went to work with head stubble. It just wasn't right. Felt unclean. By lunchtime, thought my hair was hippy length. Got home and shaved head clean. The relief.
-
I shave my head every day, even if I don't shave my face. I just can't stand stubble, I wish it grew a bit slower so that it didn't go from baby butt smooth to fine grit sandpaper in only 16 hours.
-
I feel like I need to start shaving everyday. The one day stubble is not for me. Only thing is that I already feel like I spend a lot on razors and if I do it everyday compared to every other day, then that just doubles the amount of times Id have to get new razors.

Shave the dome everyday...skip the beard on the weekends 8)

Yes, indeed.
101 days ago, I had hair and a clean shaven face. Now look what SBG has done to me.
-
SBG has done you good, Mr. Jules.
I can't imagine you with hair on top. Of course, you probably can't imagine me with hair either.

Agree with you, Mr Zed. SBG has done me good. A complete makeover and all for the cost a HeadBlade, some blades and lotions. Oh and a visit to the barbers to get my beard in shape (£7.50).
Let's not swap pre-bald pictures. It will spoil things.
(actually, saw some video of myself when I had hair. It was shocking)
-
I don't shave it every day.
Yet, I get the question "How often do you shave?".

I get that one heaps too!
People can't believe that I do it daily!

they are totally in the dark how uncomfortable stubble can be to some guys.
in my expirince so far (granted thats a verry short while compared to most of you guys) thats very true. i cant stand stubble. it has to be smooth.
-
I used to shave every 2-3 days. I've never minded having a bit of stubble, and truth is I'm a rather lazy man. Kinda liked the fact that it kept my beanie on in the winter.
However recently, the hair growth on top of my head has started to become noticeably sporadic, so I think I'm going to transition to an every day shaver. Like many have already said, who doesn't love the feeling of a smooth noggin? Feels CLEAN.
-
I missed shaving this morning Damn 6 O'clock starts!
Stubble/Velcro city! Definitely will shave tonight when I get home after school!
-
Right now I shave every other day. Because my hair comes in gray I can't go any longer that. I would love to be able to do it everyday but my ritual is a bit time consuming especially since I tend to obsess (at times) about getting every single hair. :/O
-

I thought that was just me obsessing to get every last hair...BTW, welcome to the group!

nope, you're definitely not alone SH, add me to that party!

And so the party grows! Definatley a +1 here!
-
I'm honestly too lazy to obsess, but I do try to make sure I get them all!
I've been doing a daily shave since Monday, and I love it. Smooth scalp every day! :@`
-
This morning made it two days in a row. I wanted to see if it would be faster since there was only one day's growth and also because my wife and I are going to visit our daughter out of state and I didn't want to have to shave my head at her house! I have to say that my head ended up smoother than any other day so far. Just one tiny little bit of fuzz that I was able to get smoothed out fairly quickly. O0
-
Its a case of listening to what your scalp says if it does not like being shved daily dont do it . I am a once a day man myself
-
Been bald for four months. Shave every day.
Except yesterday morning, due to drink / hangover reasons.
This morning, my hair was the 'longest' it's been for four months. It looked odd and scruffy.
10 minutes nice and smooth again.
-
Oh dear Jules know the feeling , im on the wagon atthe moment, Did buy some cassis thought it would go well with red wine and soda water n ice maybe maybe not , gotta do some Buddhist. Stuffthis evening though
-
Its winter here, so I shave my head and face every evening after getting out the shower. I may skip on the weekends. In summer I will go back to shaving in the mornings.
-
Just for SNGs, I tried to skip a Saturday morning...was shaving by late afternoon! ;D
-

Oh ... you caved in. :)
The number of times I have said to myself "I'll give my head a rest from shaving. I really do not need to shave today". Yeah right.
-
@Jules...Yup! Was in the store with my daughter. She proceeded to aske me if I shaved my head and as I was replying "not today" while rubbing the dome...you guessed it, as soon as we got home was in the bathroom apply the Headslick w/my HB Sport revving up! ;D
-

You are not alone. I enjoy gathering my HeadBlade gear in readiness for some head shaving action.
Currently enjoying the smooth results of a particularly satisfying shave. :)
-
I've gotten that a few times myself.
-
After two months, I thought the "novelty" would wear off. How wrong I was. The experience has intensified with so many new shaving avenues to pursue. I still shave every day 98% of the time. To skip a day makes it unpleasant to feel and to look in the mirror. I feel sort of "dirty".
-
Likewise, I expected the newness would fade and it would become a chore. Far from it ... haven't missed a day yet (day #47 today).
And with the array of products I've assembled I can continue daily for the rest of 2012 without having to replenish anything!
-
It's been three months today, and I haven't missed a shave yet. On weekends, I end up shaving later in the day, and it's a relief to get rid of the stubble. Like Waine said, it feels "dirty".
-
51 days and I haven't missed a day yet. It is not a chore at all, it has just become part of the morning routine. Some days I have shaved twice, once in the morning and again in the evening if I am going out. I just like the feel of it being completely smooth. Tried the ice cube rub a couple times this week. I don't know if it's my imagination, but it seems like the dome stays smooth longer.
