Title: James Bond
Post by: Arnie on April 17, 2011, 09:36:28 PM
I recently purchased a limited edition complete set of the James Bond Series (all 22), plus the Non-EON film "Never Say Never Again" (to make it 23).  I'm watching them in reverse order and realized I may not have a favorite Bond actor.  Most people seem to say Sean Connery, but I lean more toward Pierce Brosnan...but have a soft spot for Roger Moore, since my father introduced me to Bond films on the big screen with "For Your Eyes Only"...

So my question to you is, who is your favorite actor to portray James Bond?  b@n*

Absolutely Roger Moore.  He has a lot of class and in my estimation lives up to the true character of James Bond-- "Martini, Shaken, not Stirred".

There was definitely something magical about Bond.  I'm sorry we've lost that panache.

I was first introduced to Roger Moore and I really liked him as Bond so my vote goes for him. However I really do wish Pierce Brosnan did a few movies though. I thought he was a great Bond.

I guess I'm, ol' school because I like Sean Connery best.  He is the difinitive Bond in my book.  I saw most of the early Bond movies in the theatre while in my teens.

I was hooked on the Bond genre from the get go. I think the first one was "Dr. No".

I'm a traditionalist: Connery.

I actually like the Daniel Craig films a lot.  They're less cartoonish than some of the others.

For some reason, the Craig films don't seem like Bond to me -- maybe because they are much more serious. That said, the Craig movies are really really good.

Daniel Craig returns in 2012 for Bond 23 (or 24 if you count that other 1983 film...I do).  I wonder what they are going to call it...

How come Daniel Craig has only one vote (mine) so far... O:O

As I said, I like Craig, and I like the Craig movies, but they just don't seem like "Bond". Maybe after a few more movies...

Craig is the immasculated Bond, IMHO.  I liked the Bonds that always got the better of the villians, even if that was unrealistic.

For me it's Connery all the way.  He comes closest to the Bond in the books and, call me old fashioned, but that should mean something.  Craig for me is #2.  There's a dark side to Bond that the others just don't address.

As for the Moore movies.  Too campy.  It's sort of like Adam West playing Batman.  If you're not going to take it seriously, just let it alone.

The George Lazeby fans are undecided? ;D

(And yes, Dr. No was the first...) b@n*

Any ideas (or bets) on what they will call Bond 23?

I think they should bring back all the old bonds to play villains...

James Bond is coming back! (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/11/james-bond-23-new-007-film-announced_n_807556.html) It'll be a bit yet, but he's coming back.

Sean Connery set the standard and Daniel Craig has lived up to it best, I think.

sean connery all the way! he is the original...the first movies are bright, almost cartoony, and connery is always cold as ice. those first movies really take me back, even to places i've never been. That being said, craig is my #2...he is more emotional, but I think the movies themselves are better shot and acted. full of suspense and dread. not cartoony at all.

Sean Connery is probably my favourite overall but Roger Moore is who I think of as Bond.

I saw him on a tv show about the films talking about being dressed to the nines with a beautiful woman on her back trying to be super cool and seductive while the lighting crew hung from the fittings shouting "Go on Roger, give her one mate" and trying not to laugh.

How funny.  My son and I just watched The Spy Who Loved Me last night.  Roger M. is who I think of when I think of Bond.  My son thought the effects were cheesy.  I thought they were awesome!

Arnie I'm completely mortified :P because you left my favourite actor off your list, so I cant join in the vote as accurately as I'd like to, although I will still vote :(

Who is your favorite actor to portray James Bond?

My favourite actor to portray James Bond was David Niven, in the original Casino Royale movie (1968 I think?). So out of all the actors who have played James Bond, he is my favourite actor, and he has played James Bond.

Of the actors in your list, my favourite actor to have portrayed James Bond is Sean Connery. My least favourite to have portrayed James Bond is the totally pointless (in every film and tv show he's ever been in) Pierce Brosnan.

However, from your list, my favourite actor (overall) is Daniel Craig. Playing James Bond is the least of his talents from an acting point of view, but also the most lucrative :)

So,

1. David Niven as my overall favourite actor who played James Bond
2. Sean Connery as my favourite James Bond from your list
3. Daniel Craig as my favourite actor from your list, but not as James Bond.

;)

Little known Roger Moore fact: I was once in the business centre (center) of the Sheraton Manhattan, and in walked a very old-looking and frail looking Roger Moore (it was around 5 years ago), and he needed 2 of the employees of the business centre to show him how to send an email, and the whole experience seemed to take its toll on his intelligence. Quite ironic given how swashbuckling he was as James Bond.

Connery gets my vote because he's the one I grew up with.

Sorry Andy, I thought about it, but didn't include any parodies...although the 1967 spoof David Niven played in is considered the most notable.

Connery but I really liked Daniel Craig.

It would be Connery because having read some of the books--when I saw the first JB movie I sort of imprinted my impressions of the character I had gotten to know on the printed page to the first actor on film--if that makes any sense.  The rest were substitutes to my thinking.

I feel very similar about Roger Moore, but really wish Pierce Brosnan had been able to take over for him.  Sparing us the Timothy Dalton years.

License to Kill is my favorite Bond film, so i've always been partial to Timothy Dalton. I love all of the actors that have portrayed Bond, but Dalton for me was just the best. He had the vibe of Connery but added his own twist to the character.
