As a dedicated headblader for the last few years, i was very upset last week to find my fav sensor exell trips had increased in price by nearly 2.50 sterling, thats putting the price up there with the fusions , and brothers that is way to dear. Looking for possible replacements in my local asda i picked up there own brand 5 blade razor for 2.95 with two carts, with replacement carts at 3.50 per 5 Now i have tried every razor on the old dome including the mach iii, the fusion[ rubbish] the hydro, superb razor for face shaving, but still carnt get the bone closeness like the headblade, so i was most suprised when my first shave with the M5 in the shower provided me with a ultra close shave, which was closer than the headblade. Have been using the M5 for three weeks now, and it is a superb tool, i would say its the best razor on the market, bar non for headshaving, will i be going back to my fav headblade. NO. O0 O0 O0

Brother, don't get too attached to that M5. My fave, as well, but my understanding is that Personna has gone belly up due to pressure from Schick and Gilette. Personna is the face shaving division of a company called American Safety Razor. I guess they still produce surgical blades but reports I get is that the M5 is no more. >:( :'(

Budda, thanks for the heads up, i have heard this as well and following a email to persona, they assured me that there razor will still be on sale, but it wont be available in the states through wallmart, i found that strange as i bought my razor at asda which is a wallmart company in the uk .O0 O0

This is yet another reason to NOT support Schick and Gillette. No doubt they pressured Wally World to phase out the new popular guy on the block. Screw them.
You can still go to Personna's website and order the cartridges. Other stores carry the M5 badged under a different name but still with the signature orange packaging.
-
At my local CVS, they are still called the M5 Magnum, but at HyVee it's got a different name that I can't recall at the moment, and they are blue instead of the orange.
I've posted about these blades in a couple threads, and the email they sent to me stated that they had no plans to discontinue the blades--they aren't going to be sold at Wal-Mart & where they are sold (CVS, Dollar General, Rite Aid, Target, Hy-Vee & their own website) they are under that particular store's private brand name. but they are still made by the same company, and are still essentially the M5 with a different name, and in some cases different color scheme.

So, I only got the yellow adapter with my HB (I may have lost the black one in the car during the ride home from the store when I was eager to open the HB package) but which one does this M5 cart take? I've about worn down my stock HB triple cartridge and am looking to order more but came here to read reviews and found this thread. Advice?

The most loved M5 cartridge doesn't fit the HB. If you're looking for triples go to CVS and buy the CVS 3 cartrides. You get 4 for about $5. They work great.

I can't remember if they gave the black (Sensor) adaptors in the original package but they do come with the HB triples.

I'm glad I stumbled on this site because I'm going to have to go out there and see if I can buy up some M5 blades. From what I remember, you still come out ahead financially even if you buy the M5 with the included blades.
I was a bit skeptical at first, but this is a great Fusion replacement. I still prefer the Fusion, as I discovered after I subconsciously returned to using the Fusion as my exclusive razor after finding some hidden boxes Fusion blades in my bathroom a few months ago. I was planning to go back to the M5 once those ran out.
I also think it's funny how these M5 Magnums are yet another product for guys that has the word "Magnum" attached to it. The tough-guy crime fighter was Magnum PI, the big condoms are the Magnums, and the engine in my truck isn't a mere V6, it's a V6 Magnum! Screw this Dell Inspiron! I need to hit Best Buy and get myself a Dell Inspiron MAGNUM!

I've never used the M5 but I'm curious: do you guys find that the private label version is the same as the name brand version or is it inferior quality?

Personally, since the loss of up front Personnal M5 blades I have used a Fusion based system until this week. Having decided to do the full beard routine, and using an alcholol spray, my blades, whatever style, last nearly a month shaving the dome. One member very generously gave me a stach of M5 blades so having reverted the the Fusion to see what the future was after the bankruptcy, this past weekend I pulled out one of the treasured and valued M5 blades. HEAVEN--absolute smooth heaven. So, I will adapt, but I can tell you for the traditional stick shavers such as myself--the HB just never worked for me--I will always know that when it comes down to it--an M5 shave is the tops, the ultimate, without comparison.

t3ase,
Check out this thread for a list of know cartridges that are compatible with the HB. http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=10630.0 (http://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/index.php?topic=10630.0). Scroll down to the fourth or fifth post (from Tyler). Personally I have just fallen in love with the Gillette Custom Sensors carts. They are a good balance between not too many blades and ease of cleaning between passes.
...Let the M5 discussion continue. :)

Yeah, sorry. I completely misread the original post. Just went back to read it again and wondered wtf I was thinking. ;)

Razor x, the own brand M5 razors are the same as the normal razor, the only difference is the packaging. O0 O0

Picked up some of the Dollar General carts a few days ago, the brand name is "dg". Upon visual examination they appear to be exactly the same as the originals including the color scheme. When I shaved with one it was like coming home.....no discernable difference. The only problem is that there are only 2 carts in the package and they sell for $3.50.

At CVS & HyVee 4 are $7. When I run out of carts I'm gonna switch up to the M5 in black & blue. That's what they sell at HyVee. Switch it up a bit.
