Im pretty new to scracing the grape so i shave every two days atg of course my head is slowly getting used to it. so im wondering how often do my sly brothers shave and why?
Darren :)
-
I’ve been sly for a bit under 2 months. I shave with, then against the grain 3-4 times a week, depending on my schedule.
I do this because shaving every day in the beginning would most likely have brought on some irritation and the day in between shaves seems to be enough for my skin to recover. I may switch to daily at one point, but right now this is working well. Every other day seems to be a good mix between having a smooth dome and not spending a lot of time shaving.
-
TWICE A DAY for me!!
Once in the morning, then again in the evening/night (regardless if it's a family night out with the wife and kids, or just lounging around the house)!!
Each session involves shaving the melon twice each time, first time with my fav razor #1 (Schick Quattro Titanium),
the second time with fav razor #2, the HB. First WTG, then ATG, each time!!
I've learned to keep my head so well-lubricated when shaving that the razor GLIDES across my scalp like a polar bear on ice!! (I found that the more lubricated the scalp, the less likely a nick or irritation)!!

OVERKILL? Maybe to some...but it's the ONLY way I can keep the stubble/shadow down to a bare (pun intended) minimum!!

Every 2 or 3 days as the spirit moves me.
-
With rare exceptions, daily.
-
wow! noodles twice a day? now that is real commitment wtg and atg do you still enjoy shaving your head that often? and does your head ever flare up or did it flare up much?
Darren :)
-
Usually everyday here...
-
MWF and Sat a.m. if "something social" is on the agenda for the evening.
BUT, I have relatively fine, white hair on the dome, so it takes a while before stubble becomes patent. I can go two or three days w/o much noticeable "problem." Circumstances determine cases.
-
Every 3 or 4 days in winter, daily during summer months.
-
Every day for me
-
I'd prefer to shave every day, but I get irritation on the back of my head if I do.
So my general schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
If any special occasion is coming up, I'll sure to prep by sly-ing up!

Actually Darren, I really look forward to it. I like to think of it as that little part of day that I can call "mine"!! - O0
Now I didn't always enjoy it so much, until I crossed over that "learning curve" using methods, techniques, and products I was reading both here and also through my own experimentation.
When I finally found the "RIGHT" formula, from the RIGHT combination of products, to give me the end result I was searching for, I was a pretty happy camper!!

It's really a somewhat inexpensive method that produces spectacular results (for me, at least).
1) My two fav razors to use: Schick Quattro Titanium and the HBlade. (Schick-$10-$11, HBlade - around $8)
2) A bottle of OLIVE OIL (the cheap kind, from the $$ stores - about $3 for an 8-10 oz bottle)
3) A bottle of moisturizing ALOE VERA (or VITAMIN E W/LANOLIN) liquid soap (around $5 - HUGE bottle from the $$ store)
4) A tube of St Ives Aprict Scrub (around $3-$5)
5) A can of Schick Hydro Gel (around $5)
6) A bottle of Witch Hazel (around $1-$2 - again from the $$ store)
My Routine for the Ideal Shower Shave:
First, I pre-wash/pre-scrub w/the St Ives. Rinse. Combine a few drops of Olive Oil, the Aloe Vera cleanser, and a dime size dollop of the hydra gel in the palm of my hand.
Mix together to form a nice, rich creme-gel like consistenecy. Apply to scalp (and/or face too). Using the Quattro, first shave WTG, then ATG, rinising blade often.
Re-lather (need only a tiny bit more - head still very lubricated from first application. Reshave using the HBlade, WTG then ATG. Rinse.
OPTIONAL STEP: Cleanse w/the Aloe Vera Cleanser again.
Rinse with very cold water and pat dry.
Finish off with a few drops of Witch Hazel to close pores and prevent infection.
This routine gives me an EXTREMELY close shave, whereby my scalp stays very slick, sleek, and very well moisturized (yet non-greasy) the entire day.
This routine somehow seems to delay the appearance of stubble growth and that "velcro" feel when the scalp is rubbed, all day long. If head does start to feel too slick to the touch, a quick rinse under the bathroon faucet, or with a HeadWipe from HBlade will set you back on the right path again within seconds.
Scalp will once again stay moisturized and extremely soft to the touch.
Then it's time to say "Good Morning World!!", and go out and seize the day!!
That's all there is to it!!
Feel free to give the routine a try, if you like!!

Every 2 or 3 days as the spirit moves me.
Same here.
-
Each day in the morning O0.

-
Every 3-4 days. Sometimes every other, but there usually isn't enough stubble to shave.
-
Daily - otherwise it would be a bad hair day for me.
-
haha nice one guys, so how did you all come to the conclusion of shaving your heads everday? was it a gradual thing or did you just say im going sly im gonna do it everyday regardless! lol
Darren :)

MWF and Sat a.m. if "something social" is on the agenda for the evening.
This. I used to shave every 3 or 4 days, but I've recently made the switch to every other day... and sometimes the next day! I'd probably shave every day if the back of my head didn't become so raw and irritated.
-
Same here as Bill on Bass. Was doing it every 3-4 days, but in the last couple of weeks it's been every other day. I thought it was easier shaving when I had a bit of growth (3-4 days) but I seem to get a much smoother shave if I do it every other day. Plus I'm hooked on doing it so the more the better.
-
so how did you all come to the conclusion of shaving your heads everday?
Been that way since I got wise to sly, it feels good to have a nice smooth dome--only disadvantage is that for several hours when it's cold enough for a beanie-the beanie has a tendency to want to slide up and off, a little stubble holds it down. Baby butt smooth, for me it's the only way to be.
-
Like Noodles, I shave my head twice a day. Once in the morning before work and then again in the evening.
-
I usually shave every day as I don't like the velcro feel if I go longer than that. I also think sly looks better than my bald spot and thinning hair! Sometimes if I am going out, I may shave a second time!
-
I haven't gone full sly yet... but I do shave with clippers no guard about every four days. At first it took me about a half hour to get the job done, but now it only takes about 12 minutes. I will take 12 minutes every four days for a nearly sly dome :)
Also, many have mentioned they don't like the velcro feel of stubble. Maybe I am weird but I have grown to like it (pun intended).
-
As I use an electric razor I shave everyday in the morning, I don't like the velcro feeling so shaving it everyday keeps it away. No irritation, no pimples, no nicks, no razor burns, "smooth baby butt scalp" hehehe
Whenever I go out at night, usually Friday and Saturday, I shave it in the evening too.
Cheers!

Miguel,
Happy to see you found your "pot of gold" at the end of the SLY RAINBOW!!
I can remember you had doubts and issues when you first started shaving because of the problems you anticipated.
I told you all the issues would work themselves out over time, remember?
Once again, I'm happy to here you didn't give up on the SLY SIDE of LIFE!!
CHEERS!

...And YES... you do need to update your pic (A BEFORE and AFTER pic so we can all see the transformation)!!

Every morning
-
I shave everyday. Its my morning routine now to stumble into the shower in the morning, soak myself under the hot steaming water and then go thru my shaving routine. Its relaxing and I look forward to it. My scalp got irritated in the beginning but as I experimented, I found that using a shaving oil as a base makes my noggin nice and slippery. The blade just skates across my scalp. I use a Headblade from front to back, re lather and then go back to front.
On weekends, when it doesn't matter what I smell like ;), I use my electric razor to tame the stubble until the next time I shower.
-
Hi Noodles!
Yes, lots of doubts and issues hehe but I worked it out going with an electric, it works perfect for me!
And I do remember your words and also the words of other members ;) Let me thank you all once again for all your excelent help!
Well even if I wanted to, I wouldn't be able to quit, I hated that "big hole" on my crown and the tiny hair on top... so, let it grow is a NO NO GO hehehe Once Sly, Sly forever!
I will workout on the pictures! hehe
Cheers!

Every other day.
-
I try to shave everyday as much as I can - I want to keep my head shiny and smooth! :@`
Some mornings, I'm just too much in a rush or tired (such as the case this morning - so I'll hafta suffer with the velcro today)
-
When I'm sly (currently going through a shaggy winter phase) I try to shave every day. First of all, since I have a full head of hair, it's pretty obvious when I miss a day - it's a different look. And I prefer smooth to stubbly - as do both the women I date and the random ones who ask for a head rub. And there's absolutely no better feeling than when your slick shaved head first touches the cool pillow when you first lay down in bed.
Geez! Just talking about this is making me eager to grab the clippers and get back to bald. Stay tuned...
-
During these cooler Winter months I will let it go for four or five days each month, as I like the stubble look.
Otherwise I average about every other day or so.
Summer time is a different story, and with our temps I am a daily shaver. Prefer to have it smooth and clean each day.
-
hey guys, as we know shaving against the grain gives you a smooth feeling, but does it help with the crown ? id love to shave just down, and not up,I tried it and I did not see much difference as far as seeing the crown ? or do I get hit in head to much ?
-
everyday for me even during winter
-
Has to be every day for me, I just don't like that velcro feel. If I do miss a day, I find that I'm scratching the bonce all day.
-
every other day usually ,sometimes ill skip two days.
-
Every day for me,can not stand the stubbly feel , if i dont shave i feel dirty. O0 O0 O0
-
every monday, wensday, and friday. sometimes saturday.
believe me I HATE THE STUBBLE in the bewteen days.
i tried to shave everyday but, it turns out that i break out very bad because i have senstive skin.
-
Huh. I try to shave every day to AVOID irritation. I can skip a day, maybe two without getting red mottle blotches on my noggin.
-
Every other day. I'd do it every day, but that irritates my skin somewhat, and sometimes I'd rather sleep in 15 more minutes than get up and start my day.
-
once a week. dont get so much time. that why i bald :D
