Title: Personna M5 Magnum. Where are they?
Post by: buddha on January 06, 2011, 03:26:22 PM
So today I walk into my local Walmart where so many times I have purchased M5 Magnum carts and my original M5 razor and to my surprise there were none there. And it didn't look like they were sold out. There was no space designated as being for either the M5 razor or the carts. Anybody else noticed this?

Unfortunately for many of us sly and budget-conscious sly guys, the M5 Personna line was discontinued a month or two ago  :-[

You may be able to pick up some cartridges at a more obscure in-store location or perhaps online.  For now I've switched to the Fusion, which IMO is a better shave than the M5, but my wallet hates me for it.  >:(

There's another brand similar in quality and price to the M5 with a cart that supposedly fits the M5 razor.  Wilkinson Sword or something like that?  I'm sure someone will chime in.

Bankrupt is the word. :Xo! :Xo! :Xo!
You can find some occassionally, but it's a dead end--they are great, but the Fusion has driven them out of the marketplace.

Well that explains it.  I have used the Personna Atra knock-offs for years for my Headblade and now, can find them nowhere.  Wonder who put them out of business, Gilette.

For you M5 lovers..... CVS stores sell a 5 blade cartridge that looks very similar to the M5 cartridge and I have been told that it works on the M5.

Also..... there is an off brand of razors marketed under the Western Family name that are in fact M5 clones.

Dollar general stores occasionally have packages of cartrides. I bought a few packs a while back.

Luckiy for me I snatched up 2-3 packages of cartridges a week when I fell in love with the M5. I still have about 20 cartridges left.

I too was wondering where they went... guess I can ditch the handle as I'm out of blades!  :-\

Check the website for The American Razor Company.

I wrote to someone on the asrco.com website (Personna) to ask about purchasing carts from them as WallyWorld told me that the carts were recalled. Haven't heard back yet.

Schick is the culprit this time.  Thus them being replace by the Wilkinson Sword moniker.   They bought out ARC which was under bankruptcy.  I have seen a DG branded M5 cartridge and handles too.  Never have tried them.  I'm not much on the mega blade cartridges.

While at Wally World today picked up a Schick Hydo 5 with 4 refill blades for $4.97.  Refills are cheaper than Gillette so thought I'd give 'em a try.  :-\

In Texas, we have H.E.B. grocery stores that sell the M5's. However, yesterday, there was only one package on the display.  Hope this is not a sign!

I recently found some M5 Magnum carts at Dollar General. I also ordered online at GreatRazors.com  Other than that, they are hard to find.

While the M5 isn't my weapon of choice, I thought I would pass this along. If you have Food Lion grocery stores in your area check out their HBA section. They had an off brand that look a lot like the Persona Magnum M5's. I think it even said M5 on the package.

I'm happy that our local BX re-stocked them after being out for a few weeks.

Hey, just to give you all a heads up in case this hasn't been mentioned before in another thread...I sent an email to the Personnna people via the feedback link on the M5 Magnum page, asking if they had discontinued the razors. (and hoping they'd send me from free refills like some got on here!)

Here's the response I got back this afternoon....

Thank you for your interest in American Safety Razor Company and our Personna M5 Magnum Razors.  There are no plans to discontinue this product.

You may find our M5 Magnum Razors in the following retail stores (they will be in the individual retailer’s packaging – private label, however, the blades are the same):

Target

CVS

Dollar General                                    The packaging reads 5 blade razor with trimmer.

Rite Aid

Personna.com

If I may be of further assistance; please do not hesitate to contact me. We always appreciate the opportunity to serve our Customers.

Sincerely,
Karen Nauman

I have seen them at CVS as recently as last Saturday. At my local grocery store, they jacked the price up on the cartridges to $14.99(!) from $5.99. Haven't check out Dollar General or Target, but it seems like they should be around, just not carried by Wally World anymore.

Hope that helps!
