Title: Is It Possible To Shave Bald Completely Using A Electric Razor?
Post by: dexter on November 27, 2010, 09:59:30 AM
is it possible? or will it still leave visible hair on my fair skin?

i have sensitive skin n having a electric razor to do the job would be much safer for me. i have problems even shaving my chin with a manual shaver

any suggestions? or should i stick to manual shavers

Dexter,

For the closest shave that you can humanly possibly get, it has to be a BLADE razor. Some electrics comes close - like the Conair CleanHead, but ultimately the closest shave you can possibly get will come from using a blade.

Every scalp is different.  I tried an electric, a Braun, but I would have to shave so much to get it all that it not only took a long time, it left my scalp pretty darn raw, even after a couple months.  You just can't beat a blade!   O:O

Great question Dexter!  I'm an upstate New Yorker and it gets cold in the winter. I go sly in the summer with a Mach 3 but when it's cold, I buzz with no guard once a week.Surprising how much warmer the dome feels.  Nobody thinks I'm anything but sly. Only you will notice you aren't totally smooth. By the way, I get more "head rubs" with about 3-4 days growth. Turns out slightly fuzzy works for the women in my life.

I have a Conair CleanHead shaver and it works pretty well, although as others have stated, you can never get as close a shave with it as with a razor.  I use it occasionally if for some reason I don't feel like doing a wet shave.

It takes longer than shaving with a razor--you have to go over and over your scalp in little circles to get the stubble off--but visually, I don't think anyone can tell the difference.  Your fingers will know when you rub your scalp, though.  It just won't be as smooth.

But I'd say if you are seriously blade-averse or challenged for some reason, give it a try.

During the colder months I like to use my Braun series 5.  It usually takes me 10 minutes to get slick. O0

Bad part...after 24 hours I definitely have 220 sandpaper to deal with. :-[

Being slick and smooth can be achieved but you have to be careful choosing your shaver as well as your technique.

yeah, I'm all about the Panasonic linear myself.

I own a  Panasonic 8103s.  I use it dry with good results.

Being the Panasonic Linear Guru, I endorse using the shaver in the shower.  Shaving wet gives less irritation.  I use mine with King of Shaves gel.

Hi SimplyRed!

Do you have any opinion regarding to Panasonic ES-LA93K or 63K? I was trying to avoid Panasonic but taking in account some reviews it seems to be much better than Braun or other brands.

Although for some reason it is difficult to find it in Europe.

Cheers!
Miguel

Your probably right, but it takes too long and to involving.  I simple exfoliate wash and then some  pre-lectric shave.  then shave and then use a coco butter lotion or lubridurm lotion to prevent bumps.

I like to shave when Im on the internet or watching tv, or even driving somewhere.  It's not necessary to use the pre-lectric stuff, still give me a good shave.

I bought the king of shaves oil and tried it, I wasn't to happy with it and it's not cheap.

Honestly, I'm terrified of using an electric razor on my head. I was given one as an x-mas gift few years back. It was the first time ever using one. It tore the crap out of my face. I know there's a period where you have to 'get used' to using one, but it was such an uncomfortable experience, I didn't bother with again it after 2 uses. I felt bad, because it wasn't a cheap model, but I was able to give it to someone else who has gotten plenty of use out of it.
I'd like to have that convenience when it comes to shaving the dome, but I don't want to invite the risk of that kind of discomfort and redness all over the top and back of my head. Kudos to those of you who can pull it off without issue. I'm stickin' to the blade, baby.

I bought an electric shaver and it sits on the shelf unused. I find it good only if I'm lazy. Give me my Schick Hydro 5 and some Bald Guyz Shave Gel topped off with Bald Guyz After shave gel any day. Smoother than a babys butt!

I got news for you, the electric is far better and easier on the head than it is on the face.  You will not get irritation on the head from an electric.  I had always gotten razor bumps from my old Mach 3, but not so much with my Linear shaver.

And the cost is way less.... not to mention , is a lot more convenient as well.

I will second that!

When I dropped my Fusion I was afraid to use my dad's old electric razor because it always give me skin irritation on my face. I did the job in 5/10 minutes and for my surprise I didn't got any irritation. It works with my skin.

Cheers!

Hello sir!

Yes you can, but usually it will last less if you compare with a blade. I mean, at the end of the day people will not be able to see any stubbles at all but you will feel it if you rub your head. It will be up to what electric razor you use, I found great reviews about Panasonic ES-LA93K and it seems it can give a similar cut to a blade, but it's a little expensive. In the long run you will save money. Also, a good thing is, if you have sensitive skin (like me), with an electric razor you can shave you head everyday.

But this is only my opinion, I found awkward to use a razor so I dropped it and went to electric, I will try to give it another shot during this weekend, but after doing some math I'm really not sure if I want to get used to razors... I mean, here where I live, the blades for the Fusion are expensive as hell, 30€ plus per pack!

Cheers!
Miguel

Hmm.. perhaps I should give it a try, then. It would especially be useful this time of year when being entirely slick isn't that important (at least when it gets as cold as it does here). You and Miguel have had good results, so maybe I will, too.
You couldn't be more right about the cost. 14 pack of disposable Mach 3s goes for $25 a pop. Expensive in the long run...  Thanks!

Now that I've been doing this for 6 months, I have to say, a blade is the closet, and, longest lasting shave, still.

I have a Conair Cleanhead, and it's not bad for days you're out of time or just don't want to hassle with water and cream, but it's a backup, mostly.  I don't regret buying it, but it's not my primary shaving method.
Also, it does tend to irritate the scalp a bit if you go over your skin enough times trying to get as close as possible, (trying to match the shave of a blade) and in the end, there's probably less irritation with a good blade.
Just don't use old/dull blades if you're trying a blade for the first time - a nice, new, sharp blade is a necessity, and also a breeze.

When i first started shaving i used panasonic wet/dry electric shaver which irritated my skin, funny enough! i was trying to stay well away from razors, since i heard all those horror story about razor bumps etc.

A Bald friend of mine has recommended Wahl balding clippers but i dont know if i will be going there anytime soon.. they say it the closest shave you can get with electric shaver.

For the past 6 months, I have been buzzing my head with no guard which left me with visible stubble.  While cleaning out the bathroom closet two weeks ago week, I found my old Norelso triple head electric shaver.  It had not been used since 1978 when I grew my beard.  The Norelco was headed for the trash can when I decided to see if it still worked.  I plugged it in and it started running.  Since it was working, I decided to shave my head with it.  The Norelco gave me a close headshave .  My head felt like sandpaper, but there was no visible stubble and my head shined like glass.  I have used it every day for the past two weeks.  I bought a bottle of William's Lectric Shave Lotion and have been using it on my head.
