Hi guys!
I’ve joined this forum because of my well developed MPB. After the feedback I got here and after seeing a couple of topics I decided that it was really enough! It’s time to move on!
I’m now doing a list of must have things before shaving, but will need some help here.
My list so far:
1 - Headblade sport
2 - Accessory Kit TripleBlade
3 - Headslick Shaving Gel
4 - St Ives Apricot scrub or something similar.
5 - HeadLube "Glossy" for a shiny look.
6 - Shaving brush.
7 - Astringent lotion after rise with cold water
8 - Hydrocortizone lotion
9 - Anti-acne soap
I’m thinking about shaving first WTG and then slowly moving to ATG, this way maybe I can avoid some irritation.
Other than that, so far I’ve learnt here that taking a hot shower will help on the shaving and the end putting some cold water on the end, so definitely will do it.
Hope to get your advice guys!
Cheers!

Well looks like you've got a plan. The Headslick Shaving creme is first rate, although I don't use the Headblade, I find my M5 or Fusion is easier for me. Lots of the guys use the Apricot scrub, but I prefer a loofpha pad---no liquid component to add to my packing when I fly. I use a shaving brush, not on your list, to apply the Headslick. I find it feels good and works up a great lather. I have super sensitive bad skin--a full employment act for dermatologists! I have found that an astringent--I use hydrogen peroxide--after rinsing w/ cold water helps keep the skin clear followed by a mix of benzoyl peroxide and hydrocortizone lotions keeps any pimple and red spot issues at bay. A mild anti-acne soap for that newly cleaned dome will help too, and wash that peach at least twice a day--no hair at all anymore between you and the dirt and grime in the world.
Then hot shower and take your time--you will speed up with practice quickly--but at first take your time enjoy it.
You are really going to like this, we promise!

Hello sir!
Thank you very much for your advices. O0
I've edited the list, it is getting bigger.
I've saw here in the forum people talking about Shave Secret oil, is there any other generic oil available at pharmacies or something?
Cheers!

Well you got enough stuff to shave an army. Only kidding , you may not need ,at least at first all your items, a razor and cream would be a good start. But your certainly well prepared , good luck going sly. O0
-
Way to go!!! O0
You are more than prepared...and with practice and some trial/error, you will find your perfect recipe for SLYness!!! 8)
-
Well, if you REALLY want to grow the list, you need a couple of witnesses and someone who is good with a video camera. :/O Next you might want to line up a couple of women who really appreciate bald heads. ::) Finally, have a "coming out" party at a nearby bar or club. O0
OK, I'm kidding, just kidding! All you need is to have your head buzzed with no guard, wet your head in a nice warm shower, put on some good shaving cream or gel, and get a good razor with a new blade...and take...your...time! Don't rush it! O0
You don't need a lot of stuff! Don't complicate it! 8)
-
Welcome aboard Miguel! O:O
-
Congratulations! You're really gonna dig this.
Like the fellas say, TAKE YOUR TIME. Rushing the shave is just asking for cuts. Leave yourself enough time to TAKE your time.
The HeadBlade stuff didn't work for me because I seemed to be allergic to it. The HB itself was something I couldn't use without cutting myself twice a week. I now use the Schick Hydro 5 razor and Hydro gel for sensitive skin. This combo works great and no more cuts or allergic reactions. Follow up with witch hazel or Pinaud if I want the scent. Occasionally use L'Oreal after shave balm or clear aloe gel to sooth the dome and break up the astringent routine. In the shower beforehand, Neutrogena pre-shave scrub or scrub with salicylic acid to exfoliate and control zits.
It will take a while to "learn" your head. Be patient. I know now where I can go against the grain and where I can't because of irritation. I know where all the divots are and where I need to be careful. I'm getting faster too. These things take time.
Most of all, have fun! Enjoy yourself and be proud.
-
I don't think I've ever put that much thought into anything I've ever done. I'm more spur of the moment kinda guy. Sounds like you've got everything you need. Good Luck.

Welcome to the SBG Forum, Miguel!
To answer your question about shaving oils, King of Shaves also makes a great shaving oil as an alternative to Shave Secret, but they are BOTH Excellent!!! You can find a few KoS products on store shelves (in many retail outlets) but the majority of their products are listed here ---> (http://www.shave.com)
HeadBlade also has a complete line to keep your newly shaved melon in tip-top shape. HB product line can also be found in many retail outlets or online ---> (http://www.headblade.com)
Fact of the matter is that there is as many product recommendations here as there are members. What works wonderful for some may not exactly be the cat's meow for others, due to skin sensitivity issues, product availability in your area, etc.
You have to experiment a little and see what works best for your skin type.
As time goes by, you will undoubtedly personalize a routine that works BEST FOR YOU, along with the product brand that gives you the ultimate results you are searching for.
But judging my your current list, I totally agree that you are off to a Sensational Start!!
If I may suggest one other item to add to your entourage, buy a small hand-held mirror (from the Dollar Stores) so that you can shave in the shower instead of the sink. You will achieve a much better end result, and the mirror helps you guide the razor where it needs to be, so you're not going at this with a blind eye and turn yourself into a Van Gough!!
Take care, and once again- Welcome to the Forum.

Hi guys!
Thank you all for your messages.
Well… I was secretly trying to open a bald shop ahah :p
I’m now about to order the Headblade and the Headslick, I think it will take around 2 weeks to arrive, so I have plenty of time to prepare myself. I was about to do it yesterday but then I though “well you don’t have a decent razor, so don’t do it, if you want to do it, do it right”.
2 more weeks with hair and I’m done. I’m hoping to do it in a Saturday morning when I can take your advices and take my time doing it, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, it doesn’t matter. I know I will have a lot of fun doing it and especially after leaving the bathroom and showing it to the world :D
I’m having fun just imagining their faces hehe I think it will be a big shock for everyone, especially for some friends who are not expecting me to shave my head, but in the end of the day I know they will support me, in the very few days they will joke around it, but then again, what’s friends for? hehe I’ll be in shock as well but as I know since a long time ago that this is my destiny it will be just a matter of a minute or 2, take a deep breath and welcome the new me :D
Without any doubt I will take photos or even film it then will share with you guys!
Once again thank you all!
Cheers!

For a first time shaver, IMO I would not recommend using the HeadBlade. It is so easy to slice your head it takes some experience to use safely, just read some of the post. Once your use to a regular razor then give the HB a trial.

+1 I'll second that... :-\
-
You're well supplied, in the "belt and suspenders" sense. I imagine you will find that you need very little for a satisfactory result after some trial and error. As I've said before, head shaving is not cosmetic surgery... it's shaving. For me, a standard razor (I'll not repeat how ancient a one I use) and a cheap cream work just fine. When I'm feeling feisty, a touch of Headlube to give it that "shine." That's it: two things required; one thing optional.
-
Hum... you guys just want me to shave it earlier!!! hehehe :p
Well, I will accept your advice and try first with a regular razor first. So it will be next Saturday.
Cheers!

Where going to hold you to your promise. :popo ;D
-
Now you're getting the idea O0, except >:D, why put off a week what you can do now? Just a thought.
-
You guys are terrible! eheh
It just because I really don't have time during this week, too many things to do, working from 9h to 18h, German class after it or if it's not the German class is work I need to do at my studio. Saturday morning is when I have a lot of time available for me. Well, less than one week to go :D
Cheers!

Excuses, excuses--practice your verbs while you clean it up. Seriously you are going to enjoy--we know that's why we push.

Gee, with all those excuses, I can't help but question his sincerity. Does he really want to shave...or is he just looking for a support system to beg him on.... :o

Good Morning guys!
Well, you have the right to question my sincerity, I mean, this is internet and we all know how things are upon here. But believe me, I'm not here begging for attention at all or making you guys waste your time with this. I'm here because I know how terrible my hair and my MPB is going, I'm here to search for tips on the best way to do it which I found already with the help of this great community. So what can I say is, thank you guys for point me out the best direction.
This is really a matter of having the time, you guys said that I should not rush, to take my time, for me, in my current situation it is only possible to do it at weekend so that's why I'm waiting.
But let me assure you once again that I’ve made my decision and will hold on to that, so, see you on Saturday morning then? ;)
Cheers

Hello guys!
Just bought the Gillette Fusion + HydraGel Pure & Sensitive few minutes ago. I'm thinking, does anyone knows the difference between Fusion and Fusion Phenom (both manual)? I was trying to decide which one to take, the price was target at 17€ for the Phenom with only one blade, the price for the regular Fusion wasn't there, it came with 2 blades so I though I'm better off with the regular one, I was really expecting a 2€ or 3€ difference because it has an extra blade but when I was checking out I've only paid 7€... well think if was a great deal heheh
One step closer!
Cheers!

Miguel,
With this being your FIRST attempt at shaving your head, if you're going to use the Headblade as your weapon of choice, take your time and GO SLOW until you get the hang of things of how to use the HB properly.
ONE innocent mistake and you could end up like this....
(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi664.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fvv8%2Fsidder%2Farrow_right.jpg&hash=46753834a7f69f93511274de64061857382a9b56)(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi154.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fs258%2Frockinrodge%2Finvisible_man.jpg&hash=bece7be57929962f467bc7a1caf0c5545aa77daf)
Eventually, with repeated use, you'll get the hang of how to handle the HB like a pro, and gradually chop away (pardon the pun) at the amount of time you spend each morning shaving your melon, and still achieve ultimate results!!
Hope this bit of advice/suggestion(s) helps...
O0 See ya' on the other side!

Hello sir!
Wow! I definately don't want to end up like that living mummy ehehe
For now I will try Gillete Fusion, I'm taking the advice to only try HB after being used to shave my head. I will try it in a month or two and then will take your advice so I don't end up in pieces. Thank you sir!
I just need now an hand-mirror and I'm all set to go sly!

wow... that's more planning then I did for my wedding... javascript:replaceText('%20:o',%20document.forms.postmodify.message);... I just take what ever cream or gel I happen to have (what ever was on sale) or soap if I ran out, and then just shave it off using the same raz I just shaved my face with... (what ever on sale also.. but the name brands) They norm last 2-3 full shaves... If gone near a week then will buzz it first at #1 to lower it first. And I do have a thick beard & large thick horseshoe ... but i guess my skin is use to it... I sometimes throw some good old fashion rubbing alcohol on it.. don't know why tho... javascript:replaceText('%20:/O',%20document.forms.postmodify.message);

Hello guys!
Saturday morning here :D
Well bad news and good news!
Bad news is I haven't gone sly (yet) - will explain after the good news.
Good news is I've buzzed it with no guard :D it's feeling nice and fresh, for my surprise I wasn't surprised or in shock after seeing myself on the mirror for the first time (it was my father who buzzed it for me with no mirror in front of me), the first thing I said was something like "I look better than I thought! and hot too ahahaha"
So, why didn't I went sly? Well, my hair is very oily and due to that I always had some pimples here and there, so I'm waiting for them do clear, I think 2 or 3 days and it will be ready for a shave.
So, "pic or it didnt happen!" Sure!

You're half way there,dude.
You have the right look to become a full sly.... :)
Once you go sly, you'll never look back.
I became a sly in 2005,but am a new member here.
You started off with the best gear to go sly, unlike me,who always used gels and regular shaving blades.
Welcome aboard,
Yohai.

i would endorse capt noodles recomendation on the king of shaves shaving oil, i would recomend there kintexium oil it is the slickest oil i have ever used . take his tip for the mirror as well they are a great help in the shower. :@`

major league difference.....fantastic change!
-
Hi Marty!
Thanks! I'm enjoying it a lot! I only get compliments :D
Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to shave it, I still have some pimples especially on the back. In hopping for it to go away I'm using an Hypo allergic Cleansing Gel, I'm hope for it to go away quickly. Meanwhile I'm buzzing my hair from 3 to 3 days with a beard trimmer without guard, it looks great but I definitely want to go all the way down!
I will keep you updated ;)
Cheers!

'lectric shave is the way to go, imo!
I just switched over and couldn't be happier!
Panasonic wet/dry w/linear motor.... ES8103S
I was a mach3 guy forever and couldn't really shave more than every 3 days due to skin irritation.
Now every morning I shave with the electric, for that always shaved look.
I also have yet to use it wet, I'm very happy with the dry results and it's much easier that way.
Ivan

Hello Ivan!
I’m still waiting to go sly due to some pimples which decide to cover my head, fortunately they are clearing out. A good electric shaver would be great right now, since with those pimples using a razor (Fusion) it’s clear to me that I would cut me badly. I have one electric shaver but it’s far too old, from the 80’s I think, I’ve stop using it because it irritates my skin, so…
I want to buy an electric razor for those days when I’m in a rush running out of time which I consider it to be major danger to go and use a razor, especially because when that happens I’m always half asleep. I do want to avoid Panasonic at all costs, I have had some problems with their products and due to that I had to contact the customer support, well I’ve no words to describe it, at least here where I live it’s terrible…
How long does it takes you to shave your head with the electric razor?
Does anyone knows if the Braun Series 7 - 790 is worth the money and if it is dry & wet? Can’t find any info regarding to that, the only D&W I’m founding from Braun is the Series 3 - 380.
Cheers!

Either way, I think it's a must-have-especially for beginners because you NEED to see what you're doing and where you're shaving. Putting sharp objects against your head and moving it in all directions is nothing to go at blindfolded!!

Went sly today :D
Started with the Fusion but after messing arround for 10/15 minutes I couldn't go on, it was really awkard for me, so I changed for the electric razor and it took me around 5 to 10 minutes to finish the job. I really can't feel any difference between parts of the scalp where I shaved with the Fusion and the rest with the electric. I have no irritation at all, so far so good hehe

How did you get rid of the pimples? I've been shaving my head for 2 weeks now and it seems that I still have red marks that look like old pimples. I use the Panasonic L63. Do you think I should stop shaving for a while and let them clear up. then try again. Oh, I shave in the shower and use gel. Any advice is appreciated.
-
Hello sir!
I have a very oily scalp so the trick for me was to keep it clean and dry. My routine to shave and avoid pimples is:
Shaving in the shower with hot water, usually I use a scrub before and after the shaving. During shaving I use a regular shaving oil or J&J baby oil on the sides and on the back of my head, that way the electric razor glides much better. As soon as I finish shaving I use an Hypoallergenic cleansing gel. After that I rise my head with cold water and I'm good to go heheh
If I happen to be at home at around midday I usually clean my head with an Antibacterial soap because at that time it will be a little oily, if not I just wait until arrive home to clean it. For me this is very important because the oily skin can be the cause for pimples.
Also when shaving, do not apply to much pressure on the electric razor, for places where you find that the razor isn't cutting everything out, go really slow on that area. I find that on the back of my head the hair is much ticker, while on the top I shave it really fast, on the back I have to go really slow, applying no pressure at all.
For now what I can tell you as well is to do not shave everyday until the pimples disappear, or give it a 2 days break and it should clear it out.
Hope I have helped you.
Cheers!

A darn fine improvement Miguel
-
I took two days off to let the bumps go away. There are still a few, but things are a lot better :). My problem is that I want to be sly everyday. So I guess I'll have to take baby steps. Thanks for the great advice. I'm still waiting for my Thayers Alcohol-Free Unscented Witch Hazel with Organic Aloe Vera to show up and then my "product" stash will be complete.
On my day off what do you guys suggest I do? Should I just let it go. This past time I just used the my Olay Daily Ex-foliating body wash to wash my head.
Oh, and I read on the forums about doing a cold rinse in the shower and people saying its hard to do. If you have a detachable shower head (i.e. one with a hose attached to it) its really easy. Just turn the cold water on and look down. The water just rolls off your head and doesn't hit hour body.

Wow Miguel, you look great. O0 Just checked out your before and after pics. What an incredible change.
