A couple of weeks ago I was getting a checkup at the doctor and she (the hot nurse) talked me into getting a flu shot. Well, I should have known better. Just like the last two times I got royally sick two weeks after getting the flu shot. Yesterday spent the entire day in bed and couldn't get out.
I know the doctors say that you can't get sick from it, but this is the third time it's happened, so I can say that there's no more flu shot for me.

Couldn't agree with you more!
-
The one time I had the flu shot, I stayed ill all winter.
-
I had one a month ago and no problem.
-
I've never had a problem w/ the flu shot but I have had the flu when I didn't get it and that was the pits. In this area there is a 24-48 virus going round w/ tremendous gastric consequences. My wife got it, it hit her fast. In less than an hour she was down for the count. Last night we were at dinner w/ my wine group and one guy's wife was dressed and ready to go, wham, down. Only lasts a little more than a day, but it's a mean sucker, lots of bathroom action, vomiting and diarrhea. Also, since our kids are grown we get sick far less often than when the kids would bring home everything from school. If you have a child over 3 that takes part in any pre-school activities up until their teen years you're going to be exposed to everything and get sick. Loved our kids as youngsters, but I can do without the headcolds, etc. they'd bring home with them. :XX

Wonder if there is something other than the flu virus in the shot that your body reacts to. Because most people do not get the flu from the shot , other wise there would be a epidemic from all the inoculations given annually. :-\

I prefer the flu vapor/inhaler...
Got that my last 2 years in the Navy...easy and you administer it yourself...

I`m guessing its the tiny microchip the goverment is secretly injecting with the shot in all humans for easy tracking . . . O0

Ya I seem to get sick from the shot, too. I always wonderd the point of taking the shot when I get sick from it, and it doesnt seem to keep me any less sick during the winter. So I aint gettin one this year.
-
Hmm... sounds like different people have different immune systems! :o
After you get the flu shot, it takes about 2 weeks before it is effective in your system. So if you got the flu 2 weeks after getting the shot...hmmm. ???
Oh, yeah and that mist vaccine, there is an upper age limit, I believe it is around 50, but it could be younger. Regardless, for younger people, it can be an easier way to go! O0
Last comment (for now ::) ) if you want to not feel bad about getting the flu shot, [don't] try this, like I did: get a pneumonia shot in the opposite arm. You will not think twice about the flu shot because the pneumonia shot is so horrific (for me)!!! My arm was absolutely inflamed for 4 solid days. It was about as bad as getting an actual shot in the arm. There was this solid mass in my arm and the entire upper arm felt like it had an infection or something in it. OMG I though it would never end! :/O (Duh! :*)) :*)))

So that's why the vaccine was delivered via a black unmarked helicopter.

i prefer not to take the flu shot, but a health professional has asked me to take the flu shot.
-
Well, if you're going to get one, now is probably a good time. I heard just yesterday from a health professional who lives in Denver, that there are some people with the flu showing up at emergency rooms in Denver. So, it is out there. Remember it takes about 2 weeks before it's totally in your system.
-
ill go and get it

Never got the reaction that some people get. I would refuse a shot also if i did. :o

All in all, it's better to take immunizations than not. Flu shots; pneumonia shots; tetanus boosters; polio immunizations; shingles immunization--I've had them all, with never a negative consequence. You have to avoid post hoc thinking, in that, "I had a shot; now I feel lousy; it must be due to the shot." I feel lousy a lot of the time, but I never ascribe it to my meds. I ascribe it to my age.
-
I swore I wasn't going to get the shot because I have had the same experience but a couple weeks ago they were giving them free at work. Next thing I know I'd done it. The next day I was all achy and felt like 10lbs of crap in a 5lb bag! >:(

You're not old enough to be feeling lousy frequently.
The problem with the flu shot is that it only provides protection against one strain -- whichever strain the "experts" think will be prevalent for the current year. If they misjudge, you're still susceptible to all the other strains of flu that are circulating.

Well, sorry I'm your age and I don't feel "lousy" unless I'm sick and fortunately that's a rare occurance. Age has little to do relative to how you feel, IMO. Do you get enough exercise? >:D One trick that's worked for me, keep the a/c at 32 degrees at night--then you don't age in your sleep! ;D

Careful or you might wake up one day looking like Michael Jackson. >:D

He was careless--36 is not 32! It pays not to have children watching the thermostat!.

Razor, BTW it's a triple strain shot this year O0 (more for your money...or better marketing after not selling enough the last time...) :o
-
Yeah, I got the triple strain this year.
I'm not against medicine at all. Without it I wouldn't have survived to the age of 5. Though, I find it interesting that I never had the flu in my young life until two weeks after I got the flu shot for the first time at the age of 22. The second time was two weeks after the second time I got the flu at the age of 26. The 4th time was this time, 2 weeks after I got my third shot at the age of 33. Earlier this year was the first time I got the flu without getting a shot and that time I got the flu from my wife.
-
I've had the flu about 3 times in my life, and each time I did not have the shot. On the years I did get the inoculation ,I did not get the disease . Not sure this proves anything , because many years of no shots did not result in a sickness. :-\
-
I tend to get real sick during flu season no matter what. Last November/December I was pretty sick, then last Thursday and Friday I didn't want to leave the comfort of my bed. Thursday was the worst by far, anytime I was vertical I puked my toenails up. Much better by Saturday though.
-
Only gotten the flu shot a few times in my life, but never had an issue with it though. Thinking of getting it now since more and more people are dropping from it every year. Sucks getting old.... but I guess it better then not getting there....
-
I never get a flu shot. I feel like we are weakening our immune systems by always getting shots and pills for things.
-
I got a flu shot for the first time this year, I've never had problems with needles so it was easy. A flu shot is basically a doctor/nurse putting dead virus cells into your body, a nasal spray is pretty much the same except no pain and the cells are alive. It's been over 2 weeks and I'm still doing fine. I got the flu shot this year because I went down to California last week to give a speech at a movie screening, and I was staying with my best friend and his family and I didn't want to get his two daughters and his son sick. I'm happy I got the shot because I found out that I am allergic to latex (the bandaid) lol

Usually I outrun the FLU BUG, but the mean ol' nasty bug cornered me and attacked me this past week.

Did NOT take the shot when it was offered to the poilce and fire depts by the parish back in November (Ironically, I was out sick that week, but not with the flu). A lot of the same same past experiences happened to me as already mentioned in earlier posts. But I do remember one of the nurses saying, that the FLU SHOT DOES NOT CURE YOU if you catch the flu, it just is supposed to help you deal with it where the symptoms aren't so severe!!
But it is a REAL BE-YATCH to deal with!!
Here's wishing you guys stay healthy!!

Same thing happened to me about two weeks ago. I wasn't sure at first if it really was flu -- because I've had much worse cases of the flu in the past. Still, it was enough to knock me on my ass for about a week. I didn't get the flu shot, either, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference. My mother did get the shot, and she had the flu about 3 or 4 weeks before I did.
I'm blaning the whole thing on an inconsiderate woman who was on the train one evening, sounding like she was about to hack up a lung, and making no attempt to cover her mouth or avoid contaminating everyone else with her bacteria. I thought I was far enough away to escape any ill effects, but I started feeling bad about 24 hours later. >:(

There is a bad cold bug going around that isn't the flu, really severe coughing and head congestion. Fortunately I've missed it so far, but lots of people have been hit hard by it. I got the flu shot and knock wood, I'm still standing healthy. But with Carnival and Mardi Gras moviong into high gear here in the Crescent City, it's hard to avoid catching something--no pun intended--other than beads. I did catch a bit of the Scotch flu the other night, but that's part of the partying I have to confess :(. It seems I wind up overdoing it at least once every year during Mardi Gras.
