Title: Eyebrows
Post by: Razor X on April 07, 2007, 04:55:01 PM
I looked at my high school graduation photo a little while ago, and just as I suspected, my eyebrows were much thicker and darker back then.  I'm not sure how or when that changed, exactly.

Do people actually lose their eyebrows?  I'm just curious.

Sounds like something that could happen. I think they just get thinned out.

RazorX...hey dude, hope your weekend was a good one...with the newly "slyed brows" and all...hope the experience hasn't been the worst...see in your new avatar you're sportin' the shades...

awww, man, you had to resort to hiding the new look? Sorry, dude, I thought it looked pretty sly on you....don't hold the suggestion against me...

so, when you taking the razor to those suckers again?........Just kidding!

Nah, the shades are not related to the brows.  8)  I might take the razor to them again at some point, but would like to get an idea of how long it takes for them to grow back first.  Right now they're at the sandpaper stage.  I might have to shave them again sooner if they look too horrible when they're growing out.  If that happens, I'll be stuck with shaved brows forever.  That is pretty much how I got  "stuck" with the shaved head.   ^-^

Glad to here everything was cool with the shaved brows...

At first seeing the shaded avatar, i was thinking thank goodness you didn't go the "full monty" and shave off the whole lot, brows, goat and your head...

I could imagine your avatar looking all rapped up like a mummy till the stuff grew back...

glad that wasn't the case and sounds like you actually kinda dug the whole look ( I mean you already said you might go back to the extra sly look, if it doens't look good growing back)...

So, who you kidding, you may as was face up now brutha...you may end up being the "extra sly bald dude"!...just kidding!!....well, kind of......

I'm definitely not shaving the goat.  I didn't grow it until about two years after I started shaving my head and I realize now that I look a lot better with it.  The completely shaven look wasn't quite working for me.  I don't have as square a jawline as I would like to have, and the goat hides the weak chin rather nicely.  I don't think that chin will ever be seen again.

I hear ya on the goattee thing,,,help give a nicer jawline, even if it's a small bottom goat, like I have now....mine is smaller than what you see in the avatar...

actually because you have the goat, the sly brows work .

Hmmm, Tyler looks like nature may have plans for you to go the way of RazorX! Would you ever consider it, if they started to look thinned out and horrible?

BTW, is your dad Sly too?

Mine weren't ever much to write home about....but they were definitely thicker back when.

I have thought about shaving them off....just to see what it's like.....but the wife doesn't care for the idea.

Any chance of the shaving stimulating growth.....or is that part of the ol' wives tale?

No, my dad isn't Sly.  He's balding a bit, but still rocks hair without it looking bad.

I don't think I'll lose my brows like pops.  I seem to get most of my "hair" features from my mom's (Portuguese) side of the family.  I have pretty thick brows as it is and my uncles and grandfather all do to.

If I do go the way of my dad, I don't think I'll shave them only because right now they do a good job of keeping the shaving cream out of my eyes.

I always thought eyebrows became thicker with age - just like unwanted hair on most parts of the body.  Look at all the old men out there with huge bushy brows.   :P

I agree that the goatee is a distraction from the lack of brows.  If I look in the mirror just from the nose up, it seems a lot more obvious that they aren't there.

Speaking of getting thicker with age. I was talking to one of my customer's this morning who has a retreating hairline and major league eyebrows. It looks like he trimmed them a little 'cause they were too bushy. Looked kinda funny to me, they were just stickin out and not laid over nicely. That made me think of this thread......lol

God, I hope i never lose my eyebrows, I think I would cry, lol. My eyebrows are one of my favorite features about myself. I know that seems weird, but my ex-wife was obsessed with eyebrows and she got me to the point where that's one of the first things I notice about people. Eyebrows are an important part of how you look, they can change your entire face. For example, someone with low eyebrows looks mean. A woman with high eyebrows with a sharp peak in the middle looks bitchy. It's just cool to me how drastic eyebrows can change the entire look of someone's face.

Speaking of eyebrow...or lack there of...RazorX, how's your sly brows situation...

are they growing back fast...or have you gone to the full "sly side"?

Just wondering.

Yeah, I agree with you here man.  Eyebrows can make a big difference in people's appearance.  I hope I never lose mine either.  I'd probably always looked surprised or something like that.   :o

They are growing in.  They now look like they were overtrimmed (to those who don't know the real story!) but they are definitely back.  Should be back to normal in about another week, I'd say.  Not that they are that visible, anyway.

I shaved my eyebrows off today. I have shaved them before but I had a flat top in those days I don't think eyebrows are that imprtant

Before I went SLY I was trimming my eyebrows down pretty short.  Mainly because they were getting really light and some of the hairs were just getting too wild looking.  It just seemed easier to keep them trimmed.  I don't think I would ever shave them completely.  I've continued to trim them, just not as short now.

On a side note, at the request of my wife, I shaved my goat yesterday.  I'll try to post a new pic soon.  She didn't like it (and I somewhat agree) because it wasn't very thick and in the last couple of years it turned really gray.  It definitely detracted from the "clean" look.  I still can't decide whether I like this totally clean look or if I'll try to grow it back in some form.  For the time being I'll keep the face shaved since the wife has been pretty good about the shaved dome.  It's all about compromise... 8)

I'm in the same boat...the brows are going thinner, but a few 30-lb test fishing line grey ones pop up overnight it seems. the barber catches the strays...and my goatee attempts are always patchy and look weak. Tried several times, but after even a month, it's no good. Thinks it's a message to go sly once the ear, nose, brow and back hairs get a mind of their own? Maybe that should be my cue to take the next step. I think if I'd could sprout a healthy goatee, I'd have an easier time shaving the dome instead of trimming to #1 blade.

Hey I totally understand.  I was really apprehensive about being totally SLY with no facial hair.  But, I must say that after a day it is turning out to not be that big of a deal.  Sometimes I think that I like it better this way and then five minutes later I look again and think I should try to grow the facial hair back.  But I have still not wanted to grow the hair on the dome back.

You really should just give it a try.  You'll never know for sure unless you see for yourself.  I bet you too will say it was not that big of a deal. O0

You know I don't grow much facial hair either (Think Johnny Depp) but I like how it looks and I think most guys look good with some facial hair. I just shaved my eyebrows and I shave the rest of my body as well ( don't like body hair) Still I keep and will keep the goat such as it is. AS for grey there is  Just for Men

I've tried the "Just for Men".  I have some in my medicine closet right now.  Just couldn't ever get the color to look right.

The formula hasrecently changed a bit so that it colors the grey only. The other thing they recommend is that you go a shade lighter than you think you are. I consider that my hair when I had any was dark brown but JFM dark brown looks nearly black on me which is fine since I have no hair and now no eyebrow who cares what color the goat is right?

Actually, eyebrows do serve a purpose beyond defining the forehead and helping to convey facial expressions/body language (making it harder to tell a lie) and keeping shaving lotion out of the eyes of sly guys...  Back when I was playing, being on stage under all those very hot lights, I would sweat profusely and there were many times that even my big, thick brows weren't enough of a dam to hold back the sweat from flooding my eyes.  Man that hurts and makes it hard to maintain the focus on the part your playing too.  Not to mention focusing on the chicks on the dance floor!  mmm...  bouncy bouncy  ^-^
What was I saying?  Oh ya, I think that is their primary purpose for me.   ;)

Yes you are right, but in my case none of those conditions  cited above are really relevant to me in this stage of my life.  Chicks are not my thing and I don't sweat that much.

I've got very thick eyebrows that join in the middle so I would ideally like to remove the hair in the middle that still looks fine but not feminine.

Andre, Who's Tim? I don't see a Tim posting on this thread?

Anyway I believe that shaving eyebrows is a form of self-mutilation.
Headshaiving is way cool. Shavin' the brows is way NOT!!
Shak is right about it looking kinda "feminine"!!

By the way, Mr. Gallagher and Mr. McClane look like you could be bros. Awesome look-a-likes!
