Hey everyone, Im Matt Fitz, I'm new to this forum, I plan on shaving my head tomorrow night 9/17, and I am really nervous, can you guys tell me if I plan on doing this right or give me any advice?
I plan to use my clippers to cut my hair down really short, take a hot shower and then use edge sensitive skin with allow shaving gel and shave with the grain with my gillette fusion razor.
now the thing is I went out today and bought the headblade sport and the head slick shave cream but Im not sure if I should use it the first time I shave my head.
What do you guys think? I will really appreciate any advice, I am very very nervous.
Thanks,
-
Hey Matt.
I use the HeadBlade Sport and the HeadSLick shave cream myself. I would recommend using them the first time out. Just remember to go slow and do NOT apply pressure over the blades while shaving. Also, I always shave with the grain. I have tried shaving against the grain but it just irritates the heck out of my head. Run the HeadBlade from the front of your hairline all the way to the back of your hair line. Try to avoid short quick motions.
Are you going to try shaving in the shower or are you going to shave over the sink? I shave in the shower and after shaving with the water as hot as I can stand it I rinse with the water as cold as I can stand it to close the pores that were just opened up due to shaving.
After drying off I apply a nice coat of BaldGuyz Moisture Gel to top it off.
I hope this helps you. Good Luck!!

First of all, Welcome Matt! (Insert punny groans here.) You couldn't ask for a better group of guys to help you with this.
Before you use the Headblade, go to their website and watch the video. I know it sounds dumb. I know you have the basic idea, but seriously, technique is everything with the Headblade. Slow and easy. No muscle. Glide.
Otherwise, it sounds like you have the right idea. I find that the Headslick is slippery-er than any Gillette or Schick Gel that I've used over the years. Your mileage may vary.
Once again, welcome aboard. you're in the right place.

Hey Matt, welcome. My first time was just 4 months ago and here's what I did. Like you, I planned a day or so in advance to do it, and committed to myself I would go through with it no matter what. I didn't have a lot of hair on my head to begin with and what I had was buzzed at #1. After a hot shower, I lathered up with Schick Hydro gel, worked it into my scalp a bit, used a Gillette Hydro Pro-Glide razor, and I shaved against the grain. After rinsing off, I moisturized my head in Lubriderm, then stood back and admired the new look. This has become my routine now. Shaving against the grain works for me because what hair I have is short and fine. I haven't tried with the grain but I think I'd end up missing some of the hair that way, and I want a totally clean shave. Good luck buddy and let us know how it turns out. Troy

I'd start right away with HeadSlick and the HeadBlade, but only with the grain, at the sink. Take your time, go slow without pressure, and don't go over the same spots several times to get the perfect smoothness since this might lead to skin irritation. And then enjoy the sly feeling! 8)

Hey Matt,
I'm on my third day so I don't have nearly the experience that the other guys have. Take what I say with a grain of salt and please Sly Vets, jump in if I misspeak.
I jumped right in with the HB. Definitely go with the grain the first time. Get the feel of the it. I went against the grain yesterday 'cause I couldn't resist but stay with the grain for a while if that's more comfortable. Definitely watch the video at the HB site. It's said over and over because it's true: take your time and don't apply pressure. Yesterday I got a minor cut in a dent behind my ear. Why? Because I went too fast. No big deal. Hardly any pain or blood. Point is, be aware of the terrain on your head and slow down even more for mountains and valleys. I'm still getting the hang of the HB so I today I used my Fusion to touch up and deal with the bumpy landscape. No cuts. Good shave. I seem to remember that some guys around here use a conventional razor for the ear area. I do too.
Nervous is only natural. Just do some deep breathing and slow your heart rate. It'll be fine. It's not brain surgery (unless of course you REALLY mess up with the HB - just kidding! ;D). Dude, when you're done, you'll be proud because you conquered your fear, you'll like the way you look, and the feeling of the scalp in the open air is...well, unparalleled.
I won't say Good Luck 'cause you don't need it. I'll just say, enjoy the experience. Oh and post a pic. Hey, if I can put my ugly mug up in here, anyone can!

Welcome to the forum Matt. First off let me congratulate you on taking the first step towards a new (less complicated) life. O0 Let me start off by saying that I've been shaving my head for 8 years. Forgive me if I repeat some of the stuff that these guys have already said, I'll just give you my full opinion. In my opinion I would encourage you to use the Fusion and the Headslick. The Fusion is a much more forgiving razor than the Headblade. Don't get me wrong, I use the HB, but it has a steep learning curve. And it's going to be bad enough that you will have this earth shaking new look. Why have scabs and bloody spots to boot. I would also recommend that you get a mirror and shower shave. It is so much easier to keep the stubble hydrated while you shave, plus there is less mess. My only other recommendation is to not mow it down in one pass. Lather and do a pass with the grain. Then rinse, relather and do a pass against the grain. Rinse again, lather and do a touch up pass. Hope this helps
-
I would also add to the advice given by the gentlemen above that you use the mirror to guide you on your first passes, but with a wet hand feel around on your head for any areas you may have missed. When I started, I had tried to do it by sight for most of it, but it's a lot easier to do it by feel. The hardest swipe is the first one, after that, it's just natural....

thanks guys, i really appreciate all the input, i'll post some pictures tomorrow so you guys can see how it turns out, thanks again!!

Read up on EVERYTHING you can on "technique" when it comes to using the HEADBLADE!
There are a great number of postings within this forum on the "DO'S" and the "DON'T's" when using this type razor - especially for the very first time. I highly recommend you reading at least some of them to familiarize yourself and learn what mistakes to avoid!!
MOST IMPORTANT THING is to TAKE YOUR TIME!!
Most nicks or cuts will happen when you are NOT focused on the task at hand and are shaving your head too fast!! (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi443.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fqq155%2Fahoxan%2FSOOMPI%2520Stuff%2FRoadrunner.gif&hash=9e93aecdea49cc60b6ecf8a13e717eadff4e1658)
Take your time and ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE....
then RELISH IN THE (oh, so smooooooooooooth) RESULTS!! (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi186.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fx44%2Fhelloworld188%2Fsmiley.jpg&hash=4176b695efa7072fa854cf4dac1192544de14834)

Good to have you with us Matt. Go with the HeadBlade and HeadSlick and, like everybody is saying, take it slow.
-
Head shaving for the first time (and all subsequent shaves) does not require advanced degrees; it's almost impossible to do it wrong, although it's possible to spend more time than you need... until you find what works best for you. With the grain, against the grain: depends; in the shower or at the sink: depends; Headblade and gel or disposable razor and Barbasol (the cheap foam I use): depends. And so on. Everyone is a bit different when faced with the "how to? should I? etc. questions, but the end result is the same hairstyle for all. As they say, "the journey, not the arrival matters." So just "do it."
-
Watch some videos on YouTube for demonstrations about how to shave with the Head Blade. I watched some before using it the first time and it really helped me gain confidence. It's been three weeks every other day now and there's been no looking back. It just keeps getting better.
-
hey guys, its turned out great! I ended up using the head slick and my fusion because i was too scared to use the head blade. Im gonna try to work up the guts to use it here soon i hope. thanks for everything!
-
Looks good O:O
-
Super! O0
-
You make that look GOOD.
-
Looks like it worked out pretty well.
-
Lookin' good Matt! The HeadBlade works best with no more than a days growth. Try it first shaving with the grain and avoid difficult areas like around the ears. You'll soon get the hang of it! O0

Go ahead and give the Headblade a try. Slow and steady is the key. Can feel a bit awkward at first, especially using your "off" hand...but after a few shaves...nothing to it. Used it for my first bald shave and haven't looked back. If you arent happy with the shave at first...feel free to try some alternate blades. (look up the Gambrinus Custom Plus 3 thread.....I swear by it!)
