Title: Winter's Coming
Post by: Timmer on August 28, 2010, 09:54:37 PM
When I went sly the first time around back in 2005 we were stationed in Nebraska.  For those of you who have never spent a winter in the Midwest, it can be harsh on furry heads, much less our sly chromeys.  I had my AF Parka for duty but in civilian clothes, I needed a good hat.  An older friend of mine recommended The Stormy Kromer (http://www.stormykromer.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=1).  I've had mine for five years.  It's served me well in Nebraska, Cheyenne WY, and now here in Idaho.  They dry clean easily and well and they keep your dome and your ears toasty.  They're made in America, way up on the Yoop doncha know?  Jeez o' Pete, dat's practically Canada.

I'm a HUGE fan of this company and these hats.  I got mine in red and black plaid.  You may laugh, but that's part of it's charm.  And I don't care how much someone laughs at the ear flaps, when your ears are freezing, you're going to thank me.

As someone who lives in Nebraska, I just want to apologize...

I'm all for "warm" hats. I have been known to wear one of those furry trapper hat in real cold weather. ^^32

That kind of "cold gear" makes me glad I live in the sub-tropical south, even in August.  But, on my trips to the frozen north, I am rarely without my beanie, and thank my lucky stars that I don't have to fear mussing up the sprayed down combover and can stay warm.

60s, 70s and 80s here in Idaho for the next 10 days.  Low in the 40s at night/early A.M..  I've got a good Irish Newsboy cap for those mornings.

The Panda.

A Panda walks into a Bar & Grill, bursts into the kitchen, eats everything in sight.  Next, he hops the bar, grabs the bartener's gun and shoots the place up.  He heads for the door.  The bartender, shocked, yells, "WTF!  What was that all about?"  The Panda turns back, "I'm a Panda, look me up!"  The bartender goes to the office, log onto the internet and reads, "Panda:  Ailuropoda melanoleuca, literally meaning "black and white cat-foot."  Eats shoots and leaves."

OMG That is some funny stuff!
In my neck of the woods Summer is just starting to peak and winter is about 3 weeks in January. Those hats do look nice though. I wonder if I can get one a blue with the Yankees symbol embroidered on it in white! That would be killer.

"Eats, Shoots & Leaves"
The Runaway #1 British Bestseller
The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss with a forward by Frank McCourt, author of "Angela's Ashes"
ISBN: 1-592-40087-6
Published by Gotham Books (Penguin)
http://tinyurl.com/cdmg64

It's a good book. The author uses this story to illustrate how we mis-punctuate the things we write.

This is the first winter ever I will be keeping my head shaven bald, I've been doing it during summer months for the last 3-4 years, but I always let it grow back for winter.  There just isn't enough hair on top of my head anymore to hide the huge bald spot on the back of my head.  :XX

wyzguy, I'm in Idaho.  I need something with more substance.  I've already got a HB Bucket for summer wear.  I've got a nice Irish Wool Tweed Newsboy for fall and spring.  But for winter?  I'll keep my Stormy Kromer.

This is good for the transition period, but I do have a HB "hybrid" hat on the way...... Here in central NY I just hope the transition period lasts a while!
