Title: Need suggestions for electric razor
Post by: IRONHORSE on August 26, 2010, 02:36:39 PM
A few months back, I got a new job doing over-the-road trucking, coast to coast. Almost immediately, I noticed it really crimped my sly-ness, as being able to find the time to get a good, wet, head shave was hard to do. I dug around the house and found an old Norelco razor I had, and it does an OK job of at least keeping the stubble knocked down, so I can at least stay semi-sly. But, I'm not happy with it - I don't feel like I'm getting a close enough shave out of it. I have an inverter that I use to charge my lap top, etc - so I have a ready source of power here on the truck.

So, I'm turning to you, my electric head-shaving sly brethren. What new electric razor should I get to maitain the best level of slyness between the times I can do the job right with a good old fashioned wet shave?

P.S. (Any other tips related to electric head shaving would be appreciated, as well!)

My vote goes to the Conair Cleanhead. It certainly works well enough to get you by. It's specifically designed for the head.

I bought a Panasonic ES8243 a year or so ago based on a recommendation by Simply Red. Although I prefer to use a blade because I like toying with my own life the 8243 is pretty close to a blade for me as far as results go. They are a little bit on the pricey side but you can find places on the web where they sell re-manufactured shavers and it's possible to get one there for about half off retail.
Braun makes a pretty decent shaver, as well. I have an older Series 3 which gives a good shave, too. Not as expensive as the Panny but not as close, either.

Another vote for the Panasonic 8243 here.  I got the suggestion (and a LOT of great advice too) from SimplyRed.  I tried the HeadBlade a number of times, but I just wasn't able to make it work.  Every time I tried, I ended up looking like I very much earned the nickname "Veg-O-Matic Head".  The Panasonic comes really close to blade close for me.  I use 8 to 10 drops of shave oil on my head, another 5 or so on my face, then start at my neck and work my way up!
