Title: Coke or Pepsi?
Post by: schro on August 24, 2010, 10:05:56 AM
Easy question....

I've had Diet Pepsi and it taste like a chemistry lab experiment gone bad.  !*u%e
Regular Pepsi is too sweet.
The rest of the Pepsi family is (in the House of Schro) not allowed.

Yesterday I had a regular Coke for the first time in years..... )-m

I'm a big time Coke Zero guy.

What say you?

It's funny, I actually think the opposite!  Diet coke is too bitter and burns my nostrils when I drink it.  I prefer the sweeter taste of Diet Pepsi.  Though, I've actually started buying Diet RC at Wal-mart for half the price of the other two and I think it tastes great.

For various reasons I had to adjust and learn to drink Diet Coke when I drink soft drinks several years ago.  I've gotten used to it.  I tried Pepsi, just too sweet, and if the old gray cells tell me true, the disaster of New Coke was driven by a perception that the public wanted the sweeter flavor of Pepsi--hence Classic Coke that corrected that disaster in marketing. My wife does most of the buying for the house, and she's stuck on either diet or regular Coke.  I've had a couple of Zero's and it's not bad.  Just can't get the wife to change.
But I know that soft drinks taken as a whole aren't the healthy choice, but I'll have one diet coke or so a week tops.  But my guilty obsession is regular Coke during Passover, they make a Kosher for Passover bottle--it has a yellow cap and is sold with the other Kosher for Passover foods.  It's made w/ cane sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup that is the usual non-diet sweetener, and I swear you can tell the difference--spicier, richer flavor.

Coke Classic hands down! I usally only drink one or two soft drinks a week so I skip the diet stuff and stick with the hard stuff. I associate those diet drinks with drinking lite beer. That ain't gonna happen!
As for Pepsi...If I go to a place and order a Coke and they tell me all they have is Pepsi I tell them to bring me a water instead.

I'll vote for Diet Dr Pepper.

To the best of my knowledge (UK guys correct me if I am wrong), you cant buy Diet Dr Pepper in UK, however ASDA's Dr Thunder which is sugar free is yummy. My kids cant tell the difference.

My mom drinks alot of Diet Coke. I don't drink alot of pop, unless I go to a restraunt in that case I'll order Root Beer. If I'm just at a gas station I'll get Vitamin Water or Gatorade.

My preferred beverage is black tea.
Occasionally Coke Zero or some German brands of cola, diet or regular.
Or tap water.

I cannot stand the taste of cola anymore. I had a can a few weeks ago for the first time in over a year because I couldn't find any water; it tasted terrible. I do like the taste of Mountain Dew (diet).

I used to work for RC Cola and Coca Cola each for several years. During a two week period between those jobs, I worked out of the union hall and was assigned to Pepsi for a week and 7UP the next week. RC and Coke both gave us a case of pop each month (and all you could drink on the job). I really think I just got sick of drinking pop all the time.

Remembering the sight of the rail tankers full of corn fructose lined up outside (it was the 2nd largest Coke plant in the country-two lines filling 1800 cans per minute) makes me sick to think about it. I think I will stick with water.

Coke from a can or the small glass bottles you can found here and there. The plastic bottles/2 liters ruin the throat thrashing, nose blasting carbonated fizz I have learned to love since a wee youngin'        :D

I live in GA, home of Coke.  Need I say more?!

Down here the term "coke" is generic.  If you go somewhere and ask for a coke, they'll ask you what kind.

Nice.
Yes you have to drink Coke in you live in Atlanta. I think you have to know how to make at least 2 meals using Coke as an ingredient too.
I love Coke for the nostalgia and old print ads, especially the Norman Rockwell type ads, and the pinup ads. Childhood memories of coke enjoyed at family gatherings are highlights in my life.
Back then we all drank Coke and none of us were fat, it was refreshing and not bad for you, it added life and we did stuff when we drank it, instead of sitting around on our butts drinking the Super Big Gulp turning into tubs of lard, and back then we we didn't have the obesity and diabetes problems like today, we also didn't have diet coke.

Never seen a recipe for Pepsi Ham !!

Coca-Cola / Atlanta Baked Ham

1 (7 lb.) half or whole ham
2 tbsp. prepared mustard
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
5 tbsp. peanut butter
2 tsp. horseradish
18 to 25 whole cloves
1/2 c. coca cola

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Bake ham 25 minutes per pound for a half ham, or slightly less for a whole ham. Combine mustard, brown sugar, peanut butter, and horseradish. Mix well and set aside. When about 45 minutes baking time remain, remove ham from oven. Trim off rind (there is not rind on Hormel 51) and fat. Pour excess fat from pan. Stud top of ham with cloves, and spread with mustard sauce. Pour Coca Cola in pan and return to oven, basting ham several times with pan juices.

P.S. Pour the coke gently as not to disturb the hard crust that is beginning to form.

And a simpler version:

½ ham (5-6 lb.)
1 cup brown sugar
1 ½ cup Coca-Cola®
1 cup crushed pineapple

Wash ham thoroughly. Rub fat side with brown sugar. Pour Coca-Cola over ham.
Pour crushed pineapple over ham. Bake at 450 degrees for 3 hours. Makes 6 servings.

i must be weird i can drink either Regular Pepsi or coke but don't get near me with a diet soda of any kind they all have a lab taste to them. i have found with experimenting with alternative sugars that anything that is not real sugar or cane sugar taste like a lab to me.

Diet coke for me, preferably Diet Coke with Lime. Coke Zero is OK as well. When I'm on vacation and splurge, it will be regular Coke. Occasionally I'll go for Diet Dr. Pepper.

In a restaurant, I'll order "Diet Coke". If the response is, "is Diet Pepsi OK?" I respond with "No, water is fine". I think they're used to hearing that because they don't bat an eye. The whole Pepsi family is way too sweet to me.

I'm a Coke Zero fan. When I want to avoid the caffeine I'd prefer A&W. But you can't beat Coke Classic. I was one of the enraged ones back when they tried to introduce the new stuff.

I try not to drink too many but when I do I lean toward Pepsi products. And when I do, it is usually Diet, unless I need the extra kick of real sugar.

My favorite drink is Coke but I have found Coke Zero to be a great substitute.  When they developed Diet Coke, why didn't they try to go for the flavor of Coke Zero?  To me Coke Zero tastes way more like Coke than Diet Coke.  I also remember Tab.  I think it is still around.  I liked that as a kid.  Has anyone had that recently?  I also like getting A & W rootbeer at the A & W restaurant near my house.  But I have discovered that the Diet A & W is actually pretty good.  I have not had the bottled A & W.

Tea, H20, and if I drink a soft drink, I prefer Coke ZERO.

But on the WEEKENDS, with NO firehouse duty to contend with, the "honey-do" list completed, the kids by their friends' houses, and the wife at her mother's house, it's gotta be a nice, tall, extremely cold glass (or two.. maybe three with room for another one or two) of........

Coke here, on the rare instance that I'm drinking a non-diet beverage.

Diet drink of choice when at home is Tab (in all the grocery stores around here) with a squeeze of fresh lemon, but when out, I drink Diet Coke because I have only been to ONE restaurant that actually had Tab in cans.

If a restaurant tells me they only have diet Pepsi, I usually get something else.
