Fellows, I have had some lesions cut off the scalp and face before, but have never had a "bump" come up out of no where and become a monster in 3 weeks. Just got back from the dermatologist and had a squamous cell lesion cut off....with another procedure to come next week. Caught it really early, so there will be no problems, but I just wanted to shout out that the sun can get you!!! You younger guys, watch out and protect yourselves NOW so you won't have to deal with this mess 30 years from now. The sucker looked just like a pimple---thought it was nothing---then I realized this thing isn't going away....actually growing everyday! 4 more places were frozen off.
Check yourselves, my brothers, and protect yourselves!!! A nice, big hat is stylish.

Thanks for the heads up Reb. Hope the doctors get you all squared away and you heal soon.

Welcome to the club, a club no one wants to join. Squamous cell and basal cell here, a total of more than 10 :(. At least it wasn't hidden under a combover and aggravated by hair spray. I honestly believe that had I shaved it down when the mpb started and used sunscreen, I probably won't have had a problem since unprotected exposure to sun is the primary cause. Since going sly I've never had a sun problem--used to get red in the sparse areas a lot. Glad you caught it.
-
Proof positive that you can't be too careful.
Glad you caught it, Reb.
-
Thanks so much for the well wishes, guys!! I completely agree with saintc regarding the comb over deal....If I had not gone SLY, I probably would not have noticed that lesion until it was a bad, bad dude and a lot more to worry about! Again, thanks, guys! O0

Hey, all the best to you. I seldom wear sunscreen as I am trying to even out my color as much as possible, but I may be changing my opinion on that soon.

Soon :/O, maybe like today :Xo!. Do it, don't join the club--ain't nice to have the marks on the dome.

Hey folks, just an update on the squamous cell cancer that was cut off of me. My dermatologist had thought we could do a pretty "simple" frozen section procedure, but after getting the lab reports back, he said "I'd be happier" if you went the Mohrs Procedure route. Set me up with another specialist to do a microsurgery where the cancer cells are taken out, under the use of a microscope, layer by layer...leaving the un-affected cells alone. Seems some lesions are like ice bergs---You only see a very small amount above, or at, skin level. Under the skin, it can be deep and wide.
Still 100% curable and I am happy we are going this route. Sun damage did most of this to me, but squamous cell cancer also comes from radiation---I have been in the radiology field for 30 years. One of the specialists came out and said---Use Neutrogena Age Shield Face...SPF70 with helioplex. Just a little info I wanted to pass along to the brotherhood!! Guess I'll find out about Mohrs in a week or two!! Just unreal how fast this lesion came up. Shocking!
-
I've had three mohs procedures. No big deal, except that there's a long time after they cut the site out and come back to close the wound--it's the time to do the detailed lab/microscopic work. Other than the wait--it's a walk in the park. Good luck.
-
Reb.....Thanks for the update on the skin problem. Now if only the young studs will listen up. :x!
-
You are so right, Magoo....Saintc---I sent you a messege--and thanks, man.
-
Good call on the Neutrogena Age Shield Face - SPF70. I use it and it works. I have a very fair complexion. The SPF70 has really saved my face and now my head from burning.
-
The folks from Walk for Life gave us Neutrogena samples. SPF 70 seems a good choice for your sensitive head. Even if you wear a hat outdoors, it's good to prepare for those times when it gets lost, blows away or you just leave home without it.
-
Saintc hit it right with the Neutrogena.....my skin doc said the same thing.......needed it yesterday. Boat died in the Gulf while fishing and had we not had the SPF 70, I am sure we would have died. BTW, a BP contracted boat left us to drift. What A@@ Holes---and illegal to boot. If I had not been a member here, I would not have known how to protect the skin......the big hat worked great!!! O0

Okay, enough BS, did you catch anything?
-
HA!!! Caught about 30 white trout, a few specks, hard heads---as always, and something we could not even get to the top with 50 pound test!!! Broke the line but wish we could have seen it. A great day---til the boat died and we drifted...and drifted...and drifted...and ran out of beer!! A real nice day, though!! O0

Hey Guys.....Got the squamous cell cancer cut out today----forehead, left...above left eye. Not a big procedure, but having a chunk of skin, cut down deep, removed from ones' forehead doesn't feel very great!! Pathologist read the chunk as "all is gotten", which is nice to hear. Meds the next few days, also. Some nice sun screen really beats the crap out of this!!!! Invest in a nice hat...LOL.

Nice, glad it went ok.

Thanks, saintc.....Another nice scar to "give me character" LOL. Thanks for your input, also!! O0

Good to hear all went well.

Aloha Reb,
So glad to hear the results were in your favor...and great, detailed info from you and Saintc. From now on, no more sunburn for this dome- why do I continue to do it after reading so many posts here for 2 1/2 yrs? Vainity sucks!
-
Check out www.rayzorblade.com for a good visor that protects your dome.

Hmmm...fascinating; but I don't want to give my wife any ideas. Next she'd want me to get a rug! :*)) :*)) and we know that ain't happening! 8)
But for most everyone else, I think it might be interesting... :o
Oh, and don't forget to put the sunscreen on your ears! O0 I have a co-worker who had a small chunk removed from the edge of his ear. He wore hats and never thought about his ears! Yeow!
-
Frankly, that's kind of weird :o--why :/O? It looks like it would be hot, and generally speaking most hat time is summer time--and it's too much of a costume, so it's for Halloween & Mardi Gras maybe. Not for me. Good sunscreen and a light weight hat summer time, sunscreen and a beanie for winter sun. Otherwise, show the dome O0.

True about the ears, I had surgery and now use A wide brim hat in summer.
-
Saintc, it actually isn't that hot, I wear it in Florida during the summer and it has better air circulation than normal hats. The hat is definitely more for laughs than a serious option. Totally agree to show your dome and yes sunscreen.
-
I DO think it is a HOOT!!! In the right environment (bar, at work, etc.) it would be fun! O0
