Greetings SBG's.
I found this site about a week ago and spent the better part of 3 days reading up on everything I could find. I'm amazed at how many helpful people frequent the forum, and the whole community is quite inspiring.
On Sunday night, after a brief discussion with the family, we reached a majority decision. By a 4-1 majority, Sly won out. The lone voice of dissent has since come around, so we now have a unanimous decision. So far so good.
With that being said, I'm off work this week. I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a little "odd" about going back to work. I sent an email photo to my department, so that will probably spread like wildfire before I get back. And anybody that doesn't see the email will get to see it first hand soon enough because there is a company wide meeting next Wednesday. I think following that I'll probably feel like I'm over the hump. It's not that I'm regretting anything, it will just be a bit of a shock for those that have known me for a long time.
Based upon various posts that I've read, I've kicked it off with the following routine:
Wash with bodywash
St Ives Apricot Scrub
King of Shaves Gel (my regular shaving choice) plus a little King of Shaves oil for added insurance while I'm getting the hang of things
Cold water rinse
Witch Hazel
Jergens Natural Glow w/SPF 15 to work on the color match
Bald Guyz Moisture Gel later in the day
So far I haven't had any issues with my scalp, and I'm hoping that doesn't change.
Anyhow, thanks for being there! It made things a LOT easier.

Congrats, you are off to a good start. I shaved a couple of days before finding this site and learned along the way. I can see from your routine that lurking has paid off for you.
The only tip I have for you is to continue to go light on blade pressure at first to avoid the bumps and you might look into a HeadBlade razor. There are 2 camps here, those that love the HeadBlade and those who have tried it and never gotten the hang of it. The ones that seem to love it really really love it.

Welcome Palin

Welcome -- and don't stress too much about the reactions at work. It usually turns out to be a huge non-event.

Congrats on taking the plunge! I can totally relate to the going back to work fear. I left work at 8:30 -- went to my hair stylist (I wore a rug) and told her to take it off and shave it down. I went back to work, walked in the door, and only one person said "I see you got a hair cut" and that was it. We always seem to make things out as bigger than they really are. So throw that fear in the trash and enjoy your new found freedom. The look is so mainstream these days that its not a big deal.
So who was the lone dissent?

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the support.
I forgot to mention that I started off with the HeadBlade Sport from day one. I never used a standard razor so I have no basis for comparison, but I'm happy with it.
And the one that objected is the young blonde at the right hand side of the photo. That was Sunday, by Wednesday she was used to it.

Welcome to the forum, its normal to feel like the oddman out at first. Try and make it though to not look at being the one with the bald head as a negative thing. Try and make it into style something that makes you stand out.

Welcome to the SBG forum. You've made the right decision in shaving the dome. Good choice on using the HeadBlade as well. Try the HeadSlick shave cream when you get a chance, it's great stuff!.

Welcome Palin!
Of course, in the first days it feels a little bit awkward in public, but that feeling fades away and soon you can't even remember what it was like when you had hair on your head. 8)

Thanks everyone, it's nice to be on board.
I can honestly say that the transition is going much smoother than expected. There's no need for me to echo everything that has been posted in the other forums, but the advantages are almost too numerous to count.
Now that I've taken care of the prerequisite, it's time to head over to the shop and get the SBG shirt I've been looking at. 8)

Welcome to SBG Palin! I can't wait for 2012 to get here!

Welcome to SBGs!!! 8)

Welcome! Your shaving routine is looking as good as you new sly look. Don't worry about the reactions from work. It will probably be mostly no comment by the majority of people and after the first day, it will no longer be news.
