My story is probably fairly typical: I'm 27, started losing my hair (happened way too early for me, but what can you do?) and now it's at the point where I'm just sick of it. Tired of looking at it, tired of thinking about it; I want it gone. Ok ok, I really want it back, but let's talk reality here :)
I have a lot of things holding me back: Getting married this year, my work as a consultant and just general self-perception issues. If I knew my head was shaped nicely, I'd shave it off right now, but I'm so paranoid that my head looks horrible that I just can't bring myself to do it. Such silly insecurity issues I think, but men have to have a little vanity too, no?
So, I'll be reading a lot of threads, being mostly a passive participant until I familiarize myself with everything a little more. I hope to make the jump in the next few months.
Great site!

Welcome Chadwick. Good to have you here. There are others here who are better at giving advice, so I'll just say welcome and don't be surprised if you go sly and love it. I did it for something different and have no intentions of ever going back.

Chadwick....Welcome, bro
There will be plenty of welcomes and input coming along. yer in the right place.
I can't think of one instance where I thought someone looked worse going sly....epecially those who are balding.
At first it's a little awkward...but, man....letter rip!!...I can almost guarantee that you will be LIBERATED!!!

Welcome Chadwick. There is a lot of good advice from good people to help you make the plunge or not. But personally I believe you will find it a relief once you take that plunge. Good luck and stick around for a while. O0

Thanks fellas! I think I just need to take a vacation from work and go for it. That'll at least take away some of the shock factor. Need to talk to the fiance too. Hoping she'll be supportive :)
Thanks again!

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys, Chadwick!
You've got the right attitude buddy!! Find a time when you are comfortable shaving and give it a go. I'm sure you'll find it's quite liberating like the rest of us did.
-
Welcome Chadwick!
For me it was very freeing and really boosted my confidence. I won’t go back!
If you take the plunge, give yourself some time (and those around you) to get used to it. At least 30 days. It's a big change and to some even radical at first, but when people stop commenting and offering their unsolicited opinions you'll be able to really relax and enjoy being Sly!
Your bros here all hope you discover what we all have! O:O

Welcome, Chadwick! You're on the first step toward liberation. Stick around and let us know what you decide.

welcome chadwick...you seem to be at the point i was a month ago, just plain fed up with what hair was left on the egg.....you owe it to yourself and your sanity to atleast try it out for 30 days....give it a shot as soon as you have some time off.

Welcome to SBG Chadwick. Trying the Sly way on vacation is the way to go if I may add my two cents. That is how I did it. Besides, in the unlikely event that you don't like it, you'll have a week's worth of growth before you head back to work. Cheers!

Welcome Chadwick glad you're on board. Gotta agree with Tyler and BeerBaron, vacation would be a great time to give you a chance to enjoy being sly. Go for it.

Yeah...no sense in making it any more awkward than necessary.....get used to it yourself so you can strut it with confidence and competence. W3!ght

Welcome Chadwick.
I'd have to agree with my fellow SBG's. It was a liberating experience for me to go sly 3 months ago. Once you do it, any self-perception issues will likely go down the drain with your hair O0. In all seriousness, you'll probably stand in front of the mirror and gawk at yourself grinning, laughing, and wonder if the decision was the right one. After a few days, you'll likely go back to that same mirror, take a sip of your mai-tai and ask yourself, "Why didn't I do this earlier?". For me, it's a cool feeling to be sly. Frankly, I can't think of the last time I woke up and immediately reached for a baseball cap. I LOVE going around town, playing golf, and running WITHOUT a hat. Before Jan. 1, 2007, I could NEVER make that statement !
By the way, we have a couple of financial SLY Guys besides myself (Robmeister & Johnny, I'm sure there's more out there). So far, I have not found any career negatives to my new look. I'd be surprised if they have either. Also, congrats on getting married this year. Have you talked to your fiancee about it? Do you think she'd rather have a SLY hunk standing next to her at the altar or a guy with a horseshoe of hair? Don't mean to be derogatory about it, but to answer your question...yes, men have a sense of vanity also.
Personally, I think I look much better with a sly look and I certainly feel much more confident about myself and my appearance, despite the fact my lovely wife HATES my new look (too bad, I ain't a-changin').
I can almost guarantee you will quickly embrace your sly look and the sly lifestyle. As corny as this may sound, going SLY is empowering.
Best wishes and I'll pour an extra shot a kahlua in my cup o' joe this morning for ya!

Welcome Chadwick. Take the plunge and go for it!

Chadwick, get a hold of yourself man.
You are supposed to be a slick bald man, my friend..
Hair is no longer your friend.
You should be bald.
Daily shaving is worth the cool look and feel...
MPB is not so cool.
Bald is real cool.

Good one, Ben!

Welcome Chadwick. Take the plunge and give it a try. If you don't think its YOU, then you can grow it back.....but I'm betting money that you'll like it once you get used to it. I know my wife does!!!
Again, welcome to the group.
