I went Sly for the first time 18 days ago, but I have been a shaver for 20 plus years, I now realize that I knew nothing about shaving 19 days ago.
I have been reading this forum, and watching videos, and testing out different products, and what a difference my shaves are now.
Pre-shave
Before I never had any pre-shave ritual except maybe a shower. I now exfoliate in the shower with an apricot scrub applied to a loofah facial pad.
Before no shaving oil, now I apply a shaving oil, such as Secret Shave.
Shaving Cream
Before I used Gillette gel, applied it and went straight into shaving. I have used a few thing such as hair conditioner as a shaving cream, HeadSlick applied with fingers, and my new favorite, HeadSlick applied with a Badger hair shaving brush.
HeadSlick applied with a shaving brush is ten times as good as applying it with your hands. Just soak the brush for 5 minutes in hot water, lightly shake out the water, but leave the brush wet and add HeadSlick to the center of the brush, then rub it in circular patters all over your head. This feels really great!
Shave
Before I would scrap that razor and rinse the blade once in the middle of the shave, and once when done. I now shave with the grain, rinsing every couple of passes, I re-lather and shaver against the grain, I re-lather again and feel for any spots I missed and go against the grain of whatever area still needs it.
Post Shave
Before post shave meant drying my face and running out the door for work. I now pat dry my face and dome and apply an after shave, or moisturizing lotion.
The skin on my face looks tons better now then before. I actually enjoy shaving now. I think exfoliating and using a moisturizer has giving me a more youthful appearance. :)

Edit: I am not a shower shaver. I can't imagine using the oil and loading the shaving brush, and doing the re applications of lather in the shower.

I've been trying a shower shave about once a week for a while. Honestly, its a little faster, but frankly when the time of testing comes 6-8 hours out, sink for me keeps it smoother longer by several, 3-4 hours.

I tried shaving in the shower, it just doesn't make any sense to me. I like the counter with all my stuff laid out for me, plus I love standing in front of that mirror staring at my handsome masculine mug.
I'm guessing most if not all shower shavers don't use a shaving brush to apply shaving cream.

WRONG! You win nothing! Thank you and good day sir! I use a brush and soap/cream O0 Just like anything it takes practice.
