Before I went Sly on a regular basis in 2003, I used to shave it once in a while...maybe once or twice a year.  Every time I shaved it, I got various reactions, but my biggest pet peeve was when people would ask, "Did you shave your head?"    :/O

What they are really asking could be one of two things:

 - 1. Is your lack of hair intentional or due to illness or recent brain surgery?
- 2. Did I fail to notice your hair until now?

So you should always make up a story about brain surgery, and claim that your head has been shaved for a long time because the first surgery wasn't successful.  This will make the person feel sympathy for you, because of the surgery part and their self-centered way of not noticing other people.

Once they feel truly awful, then let them in on the truth.

OK, I never tried that.  But I'm hoping someone will and get back to me!  :)

;D  sorry i'm laughing because it's pathetic when people ask that question.

that's a good theory, but these were people who saw me on a daily basis...one day hair, next day bald...lol

Reminds me of the times people would see me carrying a motorcycle helmet and ask: "Oh, do you ride a motorcycle?"

I'd say: "No. I'm a really bad driver and my insurance company makes me wear this."

I guess the surprise is causing one of those mental blackouts when you want to say something clever and out comes something completely stupid.  :o

I just stare at people and smirk at them with that, "Are you kidding me?" look on my face. Then they usually just say "Oh, sorry"...

No, I just pulled my beard out a little.

But people are really that clueless.  Here people don't notice when someone they are talking to is replaced by someone else.

Yeah, that's neat, but why did they do the experiment with a guy who's so clueless that he's got  a bozo ring???

I suppose this can be used to explain why a lot of people don't notice when someone shaves his head.

But it's good news for all the people who are worried about what other people will think when they go SLY.  Other people basically just don't care or notice.  We are all pretty wrapped up in ourselves.

Being kind of a tall guy most of my life I used to get the "are you a basketball player?" all the time. I started answering "no, I'm a jockey!"
