You never know but I don't think so.
C'mon Gallagher, admit you love it >:D
For myself, I love it and being from the bay area ( where thrash metal originated ) I absolutely love Testament, Exodus and Heathen...Megadeth as well as the first three Metallica albums.
BTW If I where you put your photo as the avatar, the hitman is IMO played out.

I can pinpoint the moment: years ago a buddy in college was trying (and failing) to show me (he played bass and sang) how "speed metal thrash punk" differed from some other similarly named music genre. From then on I sort of refused to understand music genre speak. (No offense, I hope!)
Third-wave 2 tone ska revival with a Jamaican rudeboy/rocksteady influence!
New wave art school punk hip-hop experimentation!
Russian synth pop trance bossa nova!
This is my current favorite YouTube video. It makes me smile every time I play it.

I'm glad you like it, however that's not the Metallica I knew and loved.....everytime I see them on stage on or when the radio plays new stuff I'm beyond stuporous.
-
Sort of depends on what you consider hardcore--but yes I like real hardcore--especially late 80s NY and SxE stuff (AF, Cro-Mags, Youtf of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, tc...), and lots of different metal stuff asl well...
OF course I also like a lot of alternative stuff as well and some rap....I have a broad range

I like
Power Metal
Folk Metal
Death Metal
and various others
My favorite bands are Dragonland, Opeth, Bloodbath, Kamelot, Domine, Sonata Arctica, Wintersun, Insomnium and others i'm not thinking of

I love smooth jazz and I love Metallica, but they never should be used in the same sentence.
WTF was that??? ???
By the way, I do like Death Magnetic. I think it's a GREAT album.

I love Kamelot...I think Don Youngblood is a great guitarist and Casey Grillo is simply one of the best drummers around and I really enjoyed the last album, never really got into Bloodbath and unfortunately Morthen I'm not at all a fan of the other bands you listed.
-
to each his own. I like all of them

I really like "Sick of it All" (New York Hardcore). I possess their album "Death To Tyrants" and heard some of their other songs on Sirius. What I like about them is that they seem to hate politicians or at least view them with tremendous disrespect. I like that.

Get their album, "Scratch the Surface." I've had it since the late 90's and anytime I go back and listen to it I can't turn it off until I've heard the whole album.
Great energy, great lyrics, very motivational.
"Scratch the Surface, serve a purpose, scratch the surface! Don't waste my time!"

WENT TO THE WARPED TOUR IN VENTURA CALI ON SUNDAY! IT WAS BAD ASS!!!! got to see THE DICKIES, FEAR, GBH, THE ADOLESCENTS, ANGRY SAMOANS, and VOODOO GLOW SKULLS!!! SOO SICK! i was in the circle pit all day, ripped my chucks and got my pendleton dirty, and woke up extremely sore and bruised the nex day, but it was soo worth it lol ;D
-
Not a huge punk fan, love traditional metal and thrash metal though. My favorites include Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Metallica, Slayer, Motorhead, Black Sabbath (with Ozzy and Dio), Overkill, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin etc.
-
I'm not a metalhead per se, but I like my hard rock.
I grew up Van Halen and Aerosmith, Boston, Journey, etc.. but nowadays I'm a big fan of Lacuna Coil, Type O Negative, and Killswitch Engage. Not really crazy about "growling" though.
I also love progressive stuff - Jean Luc Ponty, Allan Holdsworth, (older) Rush, Yes, Genesis,etc..
I play a mean electric guitar too - been playing for 30 years.
Sorry, but I can't stand Metalmucilla. Guy sounds like he just needs to take a dump already. Every sentence ends with "ooh-ahh". :D
-
Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Mutiny Within, Rhapsody Of Fire (or simply known as Rhapsody sometimes) Symphony X, Scar Symmetry
I <3 Metal

I saw a Slayer bumper sticker on a truck the other day. Are those guys still around? I remember them from back when I was a teenager. That was 20 years ago!

Yeah they are still around. I can't imagine why to me personally I don't think they are very talented.

I like metal, but I also like the blues, jazz, contemporary Christian, hard rock, and many others. I like the old metal, Pantera, Ministry, Megadeth(Count Down back, their new stuff sucks), Metallica (except for St. Anger, that was a travesty), Ozzie, Black Sabbath, Testament. Lately I've been listening to Demon Hunter, As I Lay Dying and what ever videos Ryan sends to me. O0

To tell the truth, after their first couple of albums after count down to extinction I gave up trying to listen to them. Marty left and they haven't been the same. In my mind you just can't top this.

Exactly Ryan, they never went away, and are still kickin' ass!. They've got a new album coming out, and are on tour with Megadeth and Testament. The American Carnage tour. I've been a fan since way back, and I like Mustaine and company as well.
They actually played on the Jimmy Fallon late show last night, and they were awesome. Araya and the boys' still got it. O0
-
Slayer is cool. I saw King on That Metal Show not too long ago. It's insane, how down to earth he is. He's right about Mustaine. If you watch him his fingers are going a hundred miles an hour and he's looking off into space. He's one of the few people I've seen that can sing, play lead and never skip a beat 8) Remember that with out Megadeth there would be no MTV news. They have the most famous bass line that no one knew was theirs. Ellefson is way under rated.
I miss Dimebag :-[ Pantera has two of the best metal albums every ( Cowboys from Hell, and Vulgar Display of Power ) If you don't have them......GET THEM!

I love every Slayer album, period. You're not true to metal if you don't like or appreciate the importance that Slayer has provided for Metal, countless metal bands are exisiting today because of them....and the new Album "World Painted Blood" is just to awesome, the only other bands than I could ever think that can out-top them or play outplay them is Exodus, Testament and Overkill, live there all killer.

It's funny that all the epic tracks that made Metallica famous where written by Mustaine....I'll take Megadeth any day of the week over Metallica.
We can't forget Anthrax !!!!

*raises hand*
I'm really big on old school heavy/thrash/death/grind/black metal. I've been listening to it since I was real young, about 6 or 7 years old!
Black Sabbath, Death, Gorguts, Grave, Overkill, Entombed, Frightmare, Hammer, Deceased, and Dark Angel are some of my favorites.
For any Black Sabbath fans here: What do you guys think of the albums without Ozzy and/or Dio? Personally, I love all of the other ones....especially the Tony Martin era. In fact, Headless Cross (1989) is my all-time favorite Sabbath album. It's flawless. Tony has such an incredible voice and range. The one they did with Ian Gillan (Born Again) is really good too. I have that one on vinyl.
-
I'm an old school metal fan. Grew up listening to Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Deep Purple. Thrash is my favorite sub-genre. Celtic Frost is my favorite. Alice Cooper fan as well. I also like punk..

I really love sympthonic, goth, power, progressive, melo death, thrash, folk, celtic, viking, pagan, speed metal genres.
I really can't stand a lot of the Aussie hardcore... Although I am a fan of bands like 36 crazyfist and... there was another honest... hahaha!
As for metal bands, I absolutely love Disturbed (I know they are probably nu metal but I don't care lol), Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Amon Amarth, Dream Theater, Teramaze (If you like progressive metal get onto these guys, they are an amazing Aussie prog metal band. and I am not just saying that cos my mate plays drums for them... I am pretty sure their album is available worldwide on itunes or any decent metal retailer!), Children of Bodom (up until their latest album).
I love nothing more then getting to a local metal gig on a friday/saturday night no matter the genre though. just as long as I am supporting good local metal!
-

I believe 36 Crazyfists is originally from Alaska. Now based in Oregon, US. As far as Aussie metal bands go, I like Parkway Drive. Don't think I know of any others.. LOL.
On topic: I enjoy almost all kinds of music, but some of the heavier bands I like are: Sevendust; Killswitch Engage; Devin Townsend; Mushroomhead; Lamb of God; Every Time I Die; Kilgore; Pantera; Fear Factory; etc.
One metal album I think is quintessential is Vision of Disorder - Imprint. Doesn't matter what subgenre of metal one likes, it's simply an aggressive and noisy masterpiece. Still sounds amazing 14 years later.
-
I knew someone was going to pick up on that lol, they are most certainly not Aussie hardcore lol. Parkway Drive are a bit of a joke in Australia...
You are ticking a lot of the boxes for good metal there too, I am going to have to look into this Vision of disorder - imprint, if it is that good!
-
Not really my kind of music, although I've recently started listening to some goth stuff particularly Gary Numan and Alien Sex Fiend. (That really is the name of the group, I swear!)
-
Just youtubed Gary Numan and was amazed to see he was still producing music, I genuinely thought he was dead or something, the only song I had heard of his was "Cars". I also youtubed, "Alien Sex Fiend", and I'm quietly impressed. Neither bands are what I normally think of when I refer to Goth, but I normally listen to Metal/Hard Rock. Is Alien Sex Fiend an 80's band? They have that real 80's rock feel going on.
-
Only fans of hardcore with a sense of humor need apply. :D

I'm not really sure how long Alien Sex Fiend has been around. I've only been listening to them for a couple of years. And I agree with your assessment of Gary Numan. I've got about a dozen of his songs on my iPhone and not all of them fit the Goth perception. I think my 3 favorites are Absolution, Dead Heaven and Innocence Bleeding.
-
I seem to go for the more industrial side of things... Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein for example :)
-
Norma Jean, Parkway Drive, Resist The Thought, The Browning... I'm into heavy thrashing roaring.
-
Not going to lie, after reading Parkway drive for the second time in this thread I thought I might actually listen to them. They may be Australian, but they get very little good publicity here so I never bothered to listen to them. They are considered a bit of a joke around the metal community, and I can kind of understand why... It is not metal, but not hardcore lol.
Having said that, it is awesome to be getting some more metal fans filtering in :D
-
King Parrot (awesome Aussie band) - Sh*t on the Liver
Quite possibly the greatest metal video (or music video in general) ever made ;D. Song starts at about 2:30, but the whole video is entertaining.
(Warning: VERY heavy. Not classic rock or hair-metal heavy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cinvIr-O1k8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cinvIr-O1k8)

Saw these guys live, I kinda thought they were douches. I guess, it's not entirely their fault, no one was really getting into their music, everyone was just standing right back and just staring at them like stunned mullets. But there was no reason for the lead singer to be acting the way he was. I think it was their first time playing in Geelong, so no one really knew of them, turn out they are pretty big in the Melbourne scene though, and apparently they are more widely renowned then I thought.
I don't mind their music, just didn't like their attitude. Maybe I'll keep an eye out for another show in Melbourne (only an hour or so away from me) and go for a 2nd opinion.
The green and gold with black corpse paint might be lost on a lot of you guys, but green and gold are Australia's nation colours. So I was more then a little impressed to see them flickering towards the end of the video clip.
I'm more a fan of symphonic, gothic, power, trash, prog, melodic metal genres. But I still enjoy all the other genre's I jsut kind of need to be "in the mood" to listen to them. But there are some other really talented metal bands coming out of Melbourne, and all around my neck of the woods at the moment.
Take Frankenbok for example, Sly and epic beard metal band, that have been getting a LOT AND A LOT of attention over the past few months
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeIZYoZRCCA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeIZYoZRCCA)
I really want one of their shirts too...

I can't wait until I have the opportunity to see Frankenbok live, I'm sure it'll be an awesome night!
-
I guess you kind of have to be obnoxious douches to make obnoxiously loud music. ;D It's not really the kind of metal I listen to on a regular basis, but some of their songs are catchy and I love this particular video. Cool factoid about the paint. I wouldn't have guessed!
I like the Frankenbok video. Seems like a mix of a few styles/genres of metal & hard rock. I can dig it. That shirt is awesome! Seeing them live will be a head-bangingly good time, I'm sure! O0
-
"Obnoxious douches". That's a great way to describe a lot of them!

I don't overly agree with that statement, I've met many really great guys, and girls that play "obnoxiously loud" music haha. I really did enjoy that video clip too, and because of that, you gave me the spark to potentially listen to them again.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Frankenbok vid, As I said they have become a pretty popular band over the past 12 months in Australia, and so they should O0. I'm most certainly getting myself one of those shirts when I get the chance, and I can't wait to mosh out to them live!
"Obnoxious douches". That's a great way to describe a lot of them!
It's really not. The incident with King Parrot, was the first time in the metal scene that I've experienced this. Metal is normally as strong of a brother/sisterhood thing as what we get around here. Having said that, you always get the douches in any crowd haha.
-
the only "metal" band I ever listend to is Tool - what do you metal heads think about Tool?
-
I love Tool. They are doing an Aussie tour, but before I heard about it all the tickets had sold out! :(
-
O0 for Tool.
I'm mostly into death metal, the more technical and twisted the better, my faves at the moment being Nile, Behemoth, Bloodbath, Gojira and Meshuggah... Also this is an Italian band that's releasing some pretty good stuff in this vein.
http://youtu.be/VoDG4mGr_nc (http://youtu.be/VoDG4mGr_nc)
And some good doom / gothic metal to unwind when the going gets tough. And some 80's classic metal (Judas Priest above all) when it's party time. And Motorhead any day, anytime.
-
I quite liked that clip, thanks for sharing! I'm a big Gothic metal fan myself, I've only recently really started getting into doom metal, although some of my gothic metal is probably closer to doom as well.
What are some of your favourite doom/goth bands?
-
Hey Beardman! Well for gothic metal proper I'd say Paradise Lost any day, they're one of my first metal loves and still releasing killer stuff after 20+ years. For doom, apart from the classics (My Dying Bride and early Anathema above all) I love superslow funeral doom like Evoken, Unholy, Shape of Despair, Tyranny... Esoteric are an awesome British band in this genre and very talented musicians as well, the layering and atmosphere they create (even live) is unbelievable... In a different vein, another act I think is worth checking out is The Howling Void - pretty simplistic songs/riffs but heavy as a mountain and very haunting.
I must say there are some great bands in the Aussie scene these days... Mournful Congregation have some killer doom albums under their belt, but one band that's really bowled me over is Woods of Desolation O0
-
what do you metal heads think about Tool?
I love their stuff. Especially Aenima and Lateralus.
Nile, Gojira and Meshuggah...
Fantastic Bands. Nothing like robotic head banging to Meshuggah O0
So anyway, I'm not a big fan of melodic death metal, but I'm really enjoying Soilwork's double album. I also love Sevendust's latest. Great mix of old and new sound.
-
I pretty much missed this post because I was too busy banging my head! I am 48 and grew up listening to Classic Rock, and then it got heavier with Nazareth, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera, and today I like so many bands I can't mention them all but really like Black Label Society, Five Finger Death Punch, Hellyeah, Demon Hunter, Texas Hippie Coalition, and so many other's I can't possibly remember them all.
-
I started shuffling the Clutch, Tool, Red Fang, Anthrax, Mastadon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Static X and Black Sabbath stations on Pandora.com a couple of months ago and have been really happy with the results O0
Also, the new Rob Zombie "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor" album is the closest thing to a White Zombie album he's done since WZ ended! ;D
-
Another metal head here too - although mainly old-school stuff.
I'll count Anthrax, Skyclad, Napalm Death, Black Sabbath, Twisted Sister and Motorhead amongst my faves.
I've also been listening to a bit of Brendon Small's stuff recently:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EECuXBnMBOw
-
Always great to have another metalhead around :D I can see why they are your faves, they are all amazing bands. I got to see Black Sabbath live when they came to Australia recently! They were truly amazing, and I'm so glad that I got to see them for potentially the last time ever live in Australia
-
It's great to see (nearly) the original Sabbath line-up back together again. (https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi785.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fyy139%2FXWiseHed%2Fbth_smiley-headbanging.gif&hash=4c192c8ad9daf1db3774e51546c6caaa393c1c56)
Hopefully I'll get the chance to see them live at some point too.
-
Honestly if you ever get the chance please do it. You won't regret it!
