On these really hot and humid days what temperature do y'all keep your A/C set at.?
-
Wife says 74 - but if it were up to me ... at least 80 (if it were even turned on at all!)
-
NO A/C for me. I hate it.
-
I turned it on yesterday at 76, though I usually leave it off.
Here in the Sacramento area, the hottest point of the day is usually around 6pm, and I hate the idea of using it for only a few hours.
We bought a whole house fan, which we LOVE. As soon as the outside temperature is lower than outside, we open windows, suck in the cool air, and shoot the hot air out through the attic. Best investment we've made in the house in a long, long time.
-
The parents went away for a week and I had it at 72 for a few days but they usually keep it at 78 or so. I sweat more than most people so I love it cold.

72-75, I live in mesa where the summer months get in the triple digits everyday.. speculated to be 110 degrees today T_T

Wouldn't mind those temps at all, as long as it wasn't too humid!
-
78, two reasons, first and most importantly, at that temperature it removes the humidity--the worst part about our climate in NO; second, old house and though renovated w/ insulation, 13' ceilings keep the room comfortable w/ ceiling fans. Since our night temps range at or just above 80, 100% humidity, it's enough to dry the air out and circulate it to be comfortable. The a/c is never off, that would bring all kinds of problems from the buildup in the humidity in the walls and furniture.

the one thing that gets me about the sly life is the AC, i never used to get cold easily. now i have to be careful around ACs or i get a cold very quickly! haha
-
We keep it at 78 or so.

75 degrees. Heat index here has been 105 and it is early in the summer. Glad I had a light color roof put on when we built. I truly believe that has helped

Railroads opened the west; Air Conditioners opened the South !!
I use window units in my house; the 12 foot ceilings help keep it cool. I run the downstairs A/C if it is really hot (95 +) but rarely turn on the upstairs unit. The one in the kitchen runs only if I am cooking on the range.

I thought I remembered that phrase from someplace, some very droll and clever social commentary, so I Googled it, and the resulting search produced:
Disadvantage: I HATE air conditioner
Jun 21, 2009 ... Obviously, you are not from the American Deep South .... It has been said, "Railroads opened the West; air conditioners opened the South." ...

You're the droll and clever social commentator-- ;D

I wish I could remember where I heard that quote. I think it was in a Southern History or Political Science class.
-
67 - 69. Yeah, we like it cold.
-
Don't got central cooling just a big fan in the wall of my apt. So its set on max and blows cold.
-
I use AC mostly in my truck , hardly ever at home . . :)
-
Air con is not something we have in most homes in Scotland. We try to save up any heat we get from good weather to compensate for when its crap

Well, IMO, when Google tabs you for it, go for it--great line, almost as good as, "I don't give a damn!"
-
It's pretty nice at night on the mountain in the Summer so we don't run it often but when we do..... usually about 75 degrees F.
-
I've often heard it said that if there was no A/C the only people left in Florida would be the Seminoles.
-
It's 9:23 A.M. Just finished mowing the very small back yard. I'm wringing wet. The air conditioner is on full blast. The air outside is like syrup. God, I hate the summers in SE Texas! I usually keep the A/C at about 74. p0@^

WARHAWK O0

90 &90........That is when the temp. & humidity get this high. Before that a ceiling fan.
On LONG ISLAND the price of electric is outrageous.
-
We turn it on 74 and usually leave it all summer - - -but yesterday it got so cold that we had to put the heat on
-
Yeah - yesterday was crazy cold... had to throw on some sweats for bed last night (I don't do cold well)
-
Used the a/c twice all last year, 2-3 hours each time to cool the house before going to bed. Then used the ceiling fan.
-
At home, around 75. I have ceiling fans in every room in the house, so that's tolerable. I'm a very hot-natured guy so I like it as cool as I can get (afford) it. At work I keep it at 65 in my office and 70 for the rest of the building. Right now it's in the mid-90s in Alabama and I'm dying. Humidity close to 100%. Come on, winter!!!

Its a very dry heat. but during late june all throughout july it usually goes in triple digits easy. 110+ everyday, its not pleasant to live in :(

I have only one room with A/C, and it's the study, not the BR. The worst of HHH here on Long Island is mid-afternoon, so the study becomes the "Refuge" for a few hours then--a desk to work at and a sofa to sit or lie (nap, actually) on.
A powerful whole-house exhaust fan cools things down a bit after sunset, and the BR is sleepable with a window fan, and nights that are really uncomfortable are rare. One benefit of the Northeast over the South is that although we get weather like the South on and off in the summer, we also get bursts of frontal passage Canadian air from time to time that are blissfully pleasant spells, even in the midst of August.
However, although I keep the Refuge A/C set at 73 or 74, if it were not for the horrendous cost of electricity, I'd prefer to keep the room at about 62, which is what I keep the house at all winter, and find perfectly comfortable. It's easy to get warm--just add some clothes; it's difficult beyond a certain point to get cool--I'm sitting in the un-A/C'd computer room, not the study, and although I'm wearing shoes and sox, the rest of my clothing is a thin film of sweat--and while today's high is only predicted to be about 87, we're not there yet!
-
No A/C at the moment :( went out on Sunday been waiting for parts all week. Guys working on it now though. It has been pretty rough all week with temps at 93-94 and 90-100% humidity all week this week we been praying for rain to cool things off.
Normally 74 though with ceiling fans running all the time.
-
I keep it at 80 during the day (when not home) then about an hour before I come home, the thermostat automatically lowers it to 78. Then when I get home I bump it down to 77. I shut the bedroom door and keep the blinds closed and by the time I go to bed it is a cozy 73. The house is insulated really well because we have been running at 95 degrees with about 85% humidity.
A programmable thermostat has really been a lifesaver in this climate.
