Title: Music
Post by: HotCajun on March 27, 2007, 09:26:49 PM
I was downloading music tonight getting ready for the summertime, and I was wondering what kind of music you guys and gals like to listen too?

I'm always looking for new music to download, and I love being reminded of a really cool songs from back in the day. So if you have any suggestions for my playlist, I'm all ears!

Two fairly new bands that I'm impressed with (and I'm an "old school, classic rock" guy) is...

Keane (checkout their "Under The Iron Sea" album---particularly the song "Broken Toy")

and

Doppler, Inc.  (Raw rock guitar [no lyrics] with some techno thrown in)

Will do! What are some of the older classics you enjoy?

I just bought the 300 Movie Soundtrack last night.  It's pretty sweet for an intrumental album. lately I've been listening to the Railbenders, Kenny Chesney, Cash, Jack Johnson, and various Techo/Trance stuff depending on my mood.

My 5 favorite bands of all time go a little something like this:

In Flames
Buckethead
Dog Fashion Disco
Death Cab for Cutie
Radiohead

Buckethead is all instrumental. In Flames is really heavy. Dog Fashion Disco could be described as satanic circus music. Death Cab for Cutie are indie. Radiohead are just different, and very relaxing. That's about it!

Buckethead - *that's too hard to pick just one*
Dog Fashion Disco - Silent Film
Death Cab for Cutie - Soul Meets Body
Radiohead - Lucky OR Where I End and You Begin

Rippingtons (jazz), Metallica, Iron Maiden, Nickelback (rock), and Jimmy Buffett (drinking) probably are tops.
Actually starting to tolerate country.

I can't recommend the Rippingtons enough. IMHO, they are the best "smooth jazz" band going. Although Kilauea & Fourplay aren't too shabby either.

Yo, I can not recommend well enough Drowning Pool or a Local Phoenix band called 32 Leaves.  Good stuff.  as well as a few other bands, another band to look out for is The Music... Dope stuff all around.  Here's a link to a playlist that I got workin', if you are interested in sampling some of Clean's Eclectic musical taste.   O:O

I just recently came across a Jewel rendition of Leaving On A Jet Plane....if you can download it, do it, it is totally worth it!!!

I also like the new Hender song Better Than Me....It reminds me of a lot of you on here talking about marrying up!

If there are any you guys think I would like please feel free share....

I did get some Keane....thanks Robmeister...its not bad...I couldn't find broken toy, but I did download a rendition of Your Song by Elton John...its pretty good

I'm in the process of downloading In Flames- Borders & Shading also Take This Life, Funnel, but I'll let you know what I think.

Tyler, I love Jack Johnson...my friends went and saw him in Hawaii, I was soooo jealous! I see Kenny almost everytime he comes to Baton Rouge, Lafayette, or New Orleans....I love that he still sings Tin Man!!!

Oh, and I like Radiohead!

I listen to just about anything as long as it's "good music."  I say that because a lot of people are coming out lately and it's like you wonder how the hell they even got a deal.  But I like a little bit of everything.  It's pretty much whatever my mood is for that day.  But in general I like a little of what all music has to offer.  But to try and be more specific I'm more into laid back relaxing stuff.  Like Bob Marley, Jimmy Buffett, etc...  I guess you could say island type of music.  But depending on my mood I'll listen to some Papa Roach, Metallica, Johnny Cash, Eminem, Kid Rock, Beastie Boys, Hank Jr., No Doubt, Wu-Tang Clan, 311, Mary J. Blige, Toby Keith, Josh Groban, Phil Collins, John Cougar Mellencamp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Harry Connick Jr., etc...I could keep going but I can't think of it all right now.  Basically like I said, anything that is good music and is performed by an actual "artist."  One last thing I will say about the music I listen to is this...This is mainly to anyone else out there who likes old school hip-hop.  I grew up on old school hip-hop and would probably have to say that is one of my favorite genres of music besides the island stuff.  What is up with the kind of hip-hop that is coming out now-a-days?  I'm being very nice referring to it as hip-hop.  It's sad really.  It's as if the good old stuff is a dying breed.  Like I said before, I guess anyone can get a deal now-a-days?

Yeah i have to agree, old school stuff was the best,Public Enemy,Slick Rick,BDP,oh man i'm gonna have to dig out some old tunes now... 8)

Don't push me, cause I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to loose my head
It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from going under.

Now that's what I'm talking about.  You took it waaaay back.  But that was definitely the good stuff.  Good to hear another old school fan.  I'm the same way about digging out old music.  I'll hear some old school jam on the radio and be like, "Oh I forgot about that."  I'll go home dig some old stuff out and before I know it I have my whole collection out.  It's nice to reminisce once in a while just to remember what good music sounded like.  Ahhhh.

I listen to mostly 80's metal/hard rock and alot of country.  Van Halen is my favorite followed by Chris LeDoux, Kenny Chesney and Metallica.  I also like old-school rap like NWA and classics like Buddy Holly and the Beach Boys.

I'm with ya dieseldan! I'm a hard-core Chris LeDoux fan. Have been for years. Really like Buddy Holly too, and Metallica. I'm not real big on the newer "pop" country stuff, but some of it I can tolerate.

This is what my oldest brother says about my musical prefs...  "oh ya you like that weird stuff".   ;D  I am proudly stuck in the 70's man!  I like the 60's and some (very little) 80's too but the 70's was it for me.  I'd go back and live there forever if I could.  :@`
Favourite Genres...  Progressive Rock, Trad Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Blues, R&B.
Favourite bands...  Rush, Led Zep, Yes, King Crimson, any trad jazz, Weather Report, Clapton, etc.
There was sooo much cool stuff in the 70's...  elephant weed, purple microdot....  hehehe those were the daze!   ;D

My musical taste are kind of diverse.  When it comes to newer stuff, I like artists like The Fray, Evanesence, Jewel, Mat Kearney, Creed (yes I know they are not together!), U2.  I can't say that I like much in the way of rap and hip-hop.

As for older stuff, I like ABBA (admit, a lot of you like them too!   ;) ), Heart, Foreigner, Kansas, Scorpions, Boston, The Eagles.

These days, I listen to a lot of Contemporary Christian Music.  In that genre, I like Third Day, Mercy Me, The Afters, Sanctus Real, The Newsboys (lead singer Peter Furler is "sly"), and a lot of praise and worship.
