Title: Hi, I'm new here.
Post by: johnnyo on May 27, 2010, 08:50:49 PM
Hi everyone, I'm new here and am I glad that I found you. I'm really needing to know how to do it - shave or buzz, or should I do it. I've been pretty much bald on top and have a good amount on the sides. My real problem is that I've been wearing a piece for about 5-7 years when it started to go. Now, I don't know how to quit. I think it was easier to quit smoking! I wear glasses and I don't think they will look good with my new look? Also if I change frames, should I get rimless frames? I can't wear contacts. I know I need to get rid of the piece, any other advice will be most welcome.

Welcome! Get rid of the rug, just toss it and forget it you will never regret it. Look thru the site and you will see lots of fellow four-eyes. Look at their eye wear and go with something you like. Shave it close and never look back!

A picture would help... but glasses and a bald head can be quite a good look.

Thanks Guys, I'll try to get a picture up, I've noticed that when I take a picture while I'm wearing my rug, I really look phoney. It shows that I'm wearing one, so I don't take alot of pictures. I'm usually the one taking other peoples pic so I won't have to be in the photo. I'm sure if I keep reading your comments, I'll get the courage to JUST DO IT!!
Thanks for the help.

Welcome!  I'm a former rug wearer and am so grateful for this message board.  Dump it - you'll be so glad you did.   I had my hair stylist take my system off for the last time and she buzzed what was left down to a 1.   I came home and took a blade to it and haven't looked back.   No regrets, only freedom.

Welcome to the forum, Johnny. Shave the dome. I'm sure that, once you go sly, you'll look great with glasses.  O0

Johnny, I'm in agreement with the others.  Ditch the rug.  I haven't seen ONE that looks natural.  As far as eyewear,  it's sort of like being bald, just what nature gave you.  So, run with it.  We are who we are!  BTW, a hardy welcome.  Hope you keep us posted on a regular basis.

listen to pdxtodd: he speaks a lot of sense and knows where you're coming from.  Welcome, and I hope you get the courage to ditch the rug soon! O0

Forget about the "piece" - - -That is like  having a blinking red light on you head - - everyone knows a  "piece"
As for the glasses - - I have glasses without frames  and they are fine   and then I have contacts  - - -You must try and whatever you are happy with  - -That is what counts

Post a picture of yourself  and then we can make   constructive comments  - -BALD is BEAUTIFUL  - -There is nothing  like it  - - -The best looking guys are BALD
Welcome to SBG

I think it's already been said, but I'll reiterate.  If you think that everyone already knows that you have a dead squirrel on your head, then why not take it off?  The only person that your fooling is yourself.  You'll look great and you'll be surprised at how more confident you will be.  Listen to Todd, he speaks from experience, he was in your same spot not too long ago.  I just talked a friend of mine at work into shaving off his earbrow and now he has a date this weekend   O0

Welcome Johnnyo.  I agree with everyone else above.  I've not seen a piece look very natural.  I've also seen comb-overs that look like they needed a building permit.  They didn't look natural either.
I went with a #1 buzz for a couple of weeks before shaving.  You may want to go all the way, right away.  In either way take the advise of others and do it when you have plenty of time.   Maybe in the evening.   Don't rush.
Also, have some pre-shave photos handy so when you have those moments of doubt, (and you probably will), you will know you made the right choice.

Thanks Guys, exactly why I decided to join this group. I've looked at other sites on google, but, they didn't seem as serious or real. I get a good feeling from all of you. I know you all started at the same place I am now, and you had to make a decision. For some it was hard and for others it was as easy as opening the door and walking out. I'm continuing to read different posts and am getting alot of good vibes. Yes, I'll let you know when I make the final decision. I know it has to be done. Thanks.

Here, here!  O0
Welcome Johnnyo!  Like PDXTodd said, dump the rug, shave it and then start to really enjoy like as it was meant to be enjoyed- free of the  "sort of hair" look.  Life is too short to mess around with maybe, later, sometime.  Go for it, dude!  8)

Thanks Arnie, I've been more than welcome by all of you. I consider all of you one body so a good welcome from one is equally a welcome by all. I know that there are alot of other guys like me that are coming to this site for information and support. I was on one other site that guys would ask where to go for support information, I referred them to this site. As I didn't know their names, I don't know if they came over, but, everytime I see a newby that has made the right choice, I imagine that they are the ones I told to check us out. It's good to feel the freedom of not having to mess with the guilt of having to hide the fact that I was wearing a rug and thinking I was fooling everyone - huh! I was only fooling myself. For those lurkers, get rid of the charade and come clean, you'll really feel liberated.
Sorry, I get carried away bc I feel so good.  Carry on... :)

Look matey, you are what you are!! A bald head is something to be proud of.....please don't cover up....... many of us have been through this but to walk outside and feel the sun on your head is a great feeling and shaving your head is sooo liberating.....i worried once and you know what......nobody cares and only fools judge!!

Tha :XXnks SlyBritGuy, yes, I did the deed and am really enjoying it. I feel free, I don't have to worry about going out on a windy day, or self concience at the movies with someone sitting behind me staring at the back of my head. I think the thing I used to worry most about was if someone sat behind me and had a small child and that small child would pull that stupid rug off boy can you imagine?

Thanks, Xnewtawka, it's always good to hear from a fellow Sly guy. Yes, I really feel good. I wish other guys who are just thinking of doing the deed would just try it once, I'm sure they would like it and would feel free.  :)

Welcome johnnyo!  O0

Stick to shaving for at least 30 days... trust us, you need to go that long before making any decisions not to shave.

Maybe it'll encourage you to know, there's a lot of us who could grow a head of hair but find being Sly so much better that we're bald by choice!  O:O
