Post by: ike_69 on May 18, 2010, 06:02:25 AM
Hey everyone !

Hope things are going good with u guys.

Considering the fact that there are lots of senior and experienced members out here, i thought ill ask u guys to help me out on the appearance front.

What kind of clothes do u guys suggest? facial hair options? physique?

Im 5'7 and have sorta tanned complexion.

any suggestions on clothes, apparel, grooming?

Thanks  :)

different styles suit different people. I'm pretty basic and just wear blue jeans and t shirts lol, sometimes i'll wear button up shirts, but just go try on some clothes or something and see what looks best on you

Oh and yeah i forgot to ask,

does being sly affect your professional life and personal life in any way?

i mean during a job interview or seeking work.

i heard that women dismiss guys the moment they know that hes bald? is it really true?

will it come in the way of socializing with women?

Only true for the really shallow women...

I would not recommend white t-shirts and combat boots with your jeans tucked in them. !p

No and no....I was sly for my job interview ten years ago and it's the best job I've had.  And no, women do not dismiss you....most women I've seen are so happy to see a guy be himself, and not go through the combover/rug/plug drug routine that they will find you refreshing. Now, I'm sure there's the shallow one or two out there, but do you really want their company, however pretty they happen to be? :)

+1  I was sly when I interviewed for my current job.  It's the best job I've ever had.  And as far as women go, I have a good one and I'm bald....  And I'm ugly,  so there is hope for anyone  ;D

Ike, don't worry! It does not look unprofessional and most women think it's hot.

There are some things i have that i would not wear now im sly, but i also have things that i think look really cool with the sly look.

I tend to wear jeans alot and with the sly look i just like to wear a plain t shirt/long sleeve shirt. Nothing to draw too much attention, but something to make me look smart...pretty confusing lol. I also have gone down the goatee route, which i really like O0.

Job wise i don't know as i'm a student lol and with the girls i've  had positive comments and im the type of guy who never usually gets compliments ;D.

Being in health care  wear scrubs to work.  I must say, I look pretty good! :)

I wear different things all the time from jeans and tshirts to dressy casual and haven't found anything that doesn't look good sly.

it really varies. In the professional life nowadays I don't see why it would affect you. As far as the personal life, some women prefer bald men, some women prefer men with full heads of hair, and some don't care either way. Theres plenty of women that will like you regardless of being bald or not, so I wouldn't worry yourself with such things.

Grow out a sick goatee! As far as clothes, you don't really gotta change anything. When I had shaggy hair I wore alot of skater clothes. Now that I got a shaved head I usually wear a white tee and some jeans.

The man in your avatar pic has a great style, google some fashion pictures of him. He's about your height too. I myself wear the same clothes I wore before sly. However there are some items that I don't like so much anymore. Being bald accentuates my pale complexion, so that black shirts make harsh contrast.

About style, I think it's up to your personal preference. Even combat boots are ok, camouflage I'm not sure.

I only hire "bald" guys in my liquor store  - -We are 9 total workers and 4 of us are "BALD"
And OH do we have fun with teasing bald customers  - -and they love it  - - - we usually do a job on guys who have a fringe

Enjoy being "BALD" there are many more advantages than disadvantages
\I have never had anything negative happen to me being bald

It sounds hard, but a lot of the time you make yourself feel uncomfortable.  I'm speaking from experience: I've been there in the past.  This sort of comes across in your posts, ike 69, because, for one thing, you don't have your own photo as your avatar...I might piss a few people off here, but most of the more confident guys on here have their own photos (most of the time) as their avatar: that has to tell you something. 8)

Your own image of yourself is the most important : if you feel uncomfortable with your style, your clothes, your hair, then you will project that negativity onto others around you.

If you feel confident, then the positive feelings will somehow effect those who meet you.  Its a weird thing, but very very true. 8)

It can take a while to get used to the new look and negative comments are not helpful in the early stages.  But if you just persevere through it, things will get better.  If people see that you're not going to give in to the pressure, the negative comments will stop.  And eventually you'll start meeting new people who have never seen you with  hair and they won't make any comments at all.

Ultimately it's about what you want and not what the people around you want.  If you cave in to their demands, you'll regret it.  But if you stick to your guns, not only will you have the look that you wanted, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you were able to withstand the worst that the naysayers were able to throw at you.  And that, my friend, is a huge confidence builder in itself.

Rob is right about posting your own photo.  We can give you some honest feedback if you do.

I can understand what u guys are saying, and about the avatar things i never really paid attention..i have a similar hairline to what the guy in the pic has ..

and about the pics Razor x asked, here they go :

http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/7408/2702100718.jpg

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/7089/2702100719.jpg

i really do like it shaved smooth, cos i feel terrible to look at the thinning in the mirrir, Feels horrible..

im only 20, and most of u guys are more mature and experienced than i am,
its jus that im having a difficult time being so young and having to face this situation.

an the society in which i live is not very welcoming towards sly guys, they look at u differntly, especially the women,

its horrible. though im happy with myself like this, the people around me are making me feel insecure, especially family members and friends.

im still young, i need your support.

Well I saw your pictures. I have to say I'm disappointed. Did I say disappointed? I mean I'm jealous! You are perfect for the sly look brother! It looks really great on you. You don't really need our support. All you need is a little mirror that fits into your pocket so that you can take it out every few minutes and bask in how good you look! The people around you are just a little shocked at the change. Be your own man, because yes you are young, but you are 20. Your family stops being able to tell you what to do when your 18.

Now I'm sure your family cares about you a lot, they wouldn't be so interested in something simple like this if they didn't care. Your going to have to be the grownup in this situation and patiently wait for them to let it go and accept the change. They will get used to it rather soon, especially if you stand firm by your choice.

Ike, I'll summarize it for you.  It's all about confidence.  Wear the clothes that you feel confident in.  Try different styles.  Take a hot chick or two to help you pick out some clothes if you're having a hard time on your own.

With great confidence you'll have no problem in your professional life, regardless if you have hair or not.

Many of us have been through exactly what you're describing;  the advice remains the same:  stay the course and you'll be glad that you did.  Your family may give you a hard time in the beginining, in attempt to get you to cave in to their demands.  Once they see that you will not, the negative comments will stop.  Trust me.  ;)

Today i went to Subway with a friend , while entering the place a bunch of guys and girls were standing near the entrance, i knew a guy and girl from that, we went to the same school but never talked much.

They literally dint recognize me, and the guys jaw dropped open and was lik " F*%k is it u ???"  and he started happily rubbing my dome.

The chick asks me with a cunning smile " why did you shave your head?"

Me: "You know what it takes for a guy to shave his head?"

She has a confused look on her face ,

I go near her and Whisper in her ear,  " Balls !"

she started smiling.

I walked past her.

Feel any easier Ike? I was thinking about something like this:

http://www.posh24.com/fredrik_ljungberg/fredrik_ljungberg_is_enjoying_his_freetime

But looking at your pictures, You've got the look already. For me personally the best look with bald head is stonewashed Levi's 512 jeans and a white t-shirt, or some polo shirt.

Those in the linked picture? No idea, but must be some expensive name brand jeans. But, seem to have slight bootcut leg and actually my bootcut Levis, while not detailed the same way, look very similar speaking of fit. And that type of jeans look great with Affliction shirts too  ;)
