I have posted something similar before. But during the early stages of losing my luscious locks like manay i trawled the web trying to think whether a transplant was the way to go etc etc. Now I occasionally look back at those forums to try and suggest that there is an alternative. I stumbled across this post this morning:

Take a look about the 3rd post down. And that is being claimed a 'great result'. What happens if this guy loses more hair?

My God, that looks f---ing miserable. Why would someone subject themselves to such a procedure?
-
that is horrifying

Despair? ???

What's so sad is that they're all so proud of their self-mutilation.
-
Total desperation! :/O

Sad, yes, and sort of strange that they seem to "admire" a doctor who doesn't cure disease :/O
-
I'm not particularly squeamish, but I can't look at photos like that. :o :o
-
Okay, I could understand it for reconstructive surgery after a disfiguring accident, I could understand it for some life-saving neuro surgery, but I can't understand why anyone would put themselves through this intentionally....just to have more hair. :o
OWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!
-
This is so sad! Here the guy is thousand of dollars in the whole and 10 months later still has not found the confidence or hair that he is looking for. If he would have come here first he would have needed $20 and 10 minutes to find what he's looking for.
-
this is why transplants are not the way to go, i have had two cousins that are doing a transplant route, both are norwood 7A
Iam at Norwood 4
They ridicule me for shaving my head, calling me horrible names, ive been called a stupid idiot
One cousin just had a transplant with Medical Hair Restoration and spent 15,000 dollars, he had a previous transplant with Hair Club and spent 8,000 dollars that didnt work, another spent 12,000 dollars at Bosley, both cousins refuse to have their pictures taken, if they hve a picture taken, they will put a toupee on.
-
spent 12,000 dollars at Bosley
once again, that is horrifying

Don't say that too loud. My wife might hear you. :*)) She still thinks that I need longer than her to get ready and I need all of that shaving gadget stuff. :px

That looks really bad.

That is the part I noticed most. That really disturbs me.

I don't understand why anyone would go to such extremes. I can understand being upset about hair loss, especially when you're young, but you'd think that with age (and hopefully maturity) people would just learn to deal with it. I'm about as vain as they come, and when I noticed my hairline was starting to recede when I was about 20, I wasn't happy at all. But I never, ever considered doing anything like that. Baldness is not a disfigurement; there are millions of bald men who live happy and productive lives. It may not be something most people welcome, but it just isn't that big a deal.
-
OMG!!!
:o :o :o :o
That looks awfully painful!!!
Definitely NOT the cat's meow!!

I think the thing that always strikes me about the after photos is that people just look 'less balding'. There's still not a great deal of density, and the hairline is rather high. The long term prospects often aren't great, from what I can gather. I would have thought that people would spot the same thing when undertaking their research. I'm surprised people go down this route.
I feel really sorry for these people, mainly because it often doesn't have the intended result, still leaves them unfulfilled, if not feeling worse.

Desperation makes for good blinders.

Holy c**p that's scary stuff. For the £9,500 though, i know what i'd buy....my dream car and get insurance and still have alot left O:O.

No way, Argyle i just viewed your profile. You only live about 15 min's drive away from me lol.

one of my cousin's is going to the clinic in Minneapolis to have a consultation and to schedule another transplant. The clinic in Minnesota has promised him that he will have a full head of hair within a few months after he has his transplant with them.
My cosuin wears a hideous black toupee, since it is a sign and symbol of shame for him to be bald
-
That's disgusting. It bothered me just thinking about someone doing that to themselves. And I couldn't help but notice how much happier with ourselves we all seem to be then them. Good to be sly.

Whenever I am working in Manchester I go through Ashton. You are right that is a stunning drive, a couple of lovely pubs up that way too!

If you notice about a HT most of the guys that have had it done are on their 4th ones.

One of my cousins is going for his third transplant, in Minnesota this fall

You've said that right, I think the same. Bald is bald, when the contrast between hair and scalp is too high you just shave it. Else it is just ugly.

After reading all y'alls' posts I can't look...(shudder)
-
Dave, don't look! It's beyond hideous! Definitely a mental life scarring experience! :o :o
-
I don't find it that disturbing... I really feel sad for him... Imagine being in HIS position/frame of mind... it is/was his solution to be happy and feel good about himself. Personally I would never do it... our solution was simpler...
I really hopes it works for him.. (on a side note: imagine the pain!)

I suppose it's this guy's personal decision, and a reflection of his personal monetary and aesthetic values. If he's happy and can afford, I guess that's all that matters.
For me, I apologize for sounding like a typical banking/finance/investment dork (which I am), but I keep thinking, "Hmm...$12,000 at a 5.50% annual return, compounded over 20 years until I retire..."
Then figure in that I save at least $500 a year by not visiting the barber every two weeks and savings on hair care products. But to be fair, I probably spend an additional $50 or so each year on HeadSlick and replacing razor blades a few days sooner than if I didn't shave my head.
Let's just say that, 20 years from now I think I'll look a whole heck of a lot better with an additional $50,000 in my portfolio and an unscarred noggin...

Guys, I can understand why someone would deal with transplants - I myself did twenty years ago.
I was only 27 or 28, and my hair loss was getting pretty bad. I was desperate. I was single, lonely, in a band, and losing my freaking hair! I was so depressed. It was so unfair. I was a hair worshipper.
You also have to remember, that in 1989, the sly look was not common, popular, or cool as it is today. The only sly guys then were Mr. Clean or some crazy villain type dude stereotype.
If I could go back and change it, I probably would not have done the procedure, (and saved myself about 5 $ grand!) but.. times were different then.
Today, however, I cannot see why anyone would do it. The sly look is now fairly common and totally acceptable, it doesn't give guys the hard, emotionless bad-guy image stigma it once did.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I don't know what all the hubbub is about. I think his new widow's peak looks really good. !*u%e
It's actually got me thinking about getting a HT my-own-self! B$F!g
