Title: New and almost bald
Post by: gmac221 on May 07, 2010, 05:31:05 PM
First off let me start off by saying hey, my name is George, I am 18 and a senior in high school.  I have been rocking the #1 buzzcut all over for a few months now and pretty much love it.  It feels awesome to rub coming right out of the salon lol.  But I havent gone any shorter =/.  I want to try a #0 all over or maybe go all the way, sly.  However I am starting college next fall and I am somewhat worried what other students might react if I show up with a shaved head.  Any advice for me?  Also I want some help with the ladies, and I am not sure if they would like the buzzcut more or a shaved head.

Thanks guys

I don't think the sly look is as uncommn as it used to be--I can't say college students giving it much thought....

Anyway welcome aboard!

There won't be any reaction.  Shaved heads are common nowadays in all walks of life; people who have never met you before won't even give it a second thought.  As far as what the ladies prefer, that varies from individual to individual.

You're already at a #1 buzzcut so the rest should be easy.  It only takes a week to grow back to that length after you shave it, so you have nothing to lose by trying.

Good luck.

Welcome George!
If you want to try it, you should go sly right now. And if you're going to like it (remember the 30 days), you'll be well prepared for your college start. 8)
BTW after you go sly, you'll notice all the other sly guys around you. They're everywhere!

Welcome to the site George.  If you're going to shave the noggin', now is the time.  Summer is coming and if you don't care for it, after the 30 day rule, you will still have plenty of time to get back to the #1 buzz.  Good luck with the decision.

I think I might shave it the day after graduation, it would be a great gift I think lol.

Yo dude. Welcome to the site. I agree with Razor X. Won't be as big a deal as you think. Give it a shot over summer and if it's not what you like, go back to the buzz by fall. Either way welcome, enjoy the site!

Welcome to the group!   I was on the University of Oregon campus a few weeks back and noticed a lot of sly guys on campus.   Like everyone has said -- its mainstream now.    Give it a try and stick to it for 30 days.

Thanks guys for the support.  I am going to go down to Florida after graduation for a few weeks, so I think it is a great time to shave it then.

Welcome. If your going to shave and head to Florida, make sure to bring sunscreen for your dome!

From my anecotal experience - campuses are changing -- more older students = more sly = more acceptance

When I went back to school in 1998, I was sly....even then it wasn't a big deal on campus....made lots of friends, never had any trouble finding jobs, and it wasn't uncommon. 12 years later, there's even more acceptance! :)

Welcome to SBG!

College is a great time to show up with a new look. Nobody knows you from before, so you won't get any reactions. At the beginning of college nobody knows anybody, and people are just concerned with meeting people and making friends.

I'd say this is the perfect time for you to go sly. Try it out through the summer and keep it for college.

Go ahead and shave it.  You're almost there and it really isn't that much difference.  Nobody is going to react to it at all, especially if they don't know you.  As for the lady's, most love the look and feel of a bald head.  I haven't had any problems with any body not liking it.  Beside it will grow back.  But I bet you'll like it.

Congrats on graduating!  Like graduating changes your life and you see that you have accomplished something, so will the sly look.  It changes your attitude about you and others around you.  It IS a major accomplishment (not everyone does it.  Many go the other way with combovers, drugs, rugs,  plugs.)  Recognizing what you want and going for it.  That's the Sly manly way!   O0
