Title: MR. CLEAN'S goal
Post by: MR. CLEAN on March 24, 2007, 03:57:21 PM
Yo, its been going solid now for a few weeks.  Good workouts, with a reliance dietarily on white meat Turkey and chicken.  Add to this that I have given up all Alcoholic products (Beer, Mixed Drinks, Cough Sirup, etc.) untill I hit 210.  Goal: 215  Current Weight: 235  Starting Weight (about 2 weeks ago): 240

Program: 1 Hour 3 Days a Week Weights, 1/2 Hour 3 Days a Week Stationary Bike on Cardio Setting, 1 Hour 2 Days a week Stationary Bike..., [currently] 1 mile on dirt track 5 days a week, 2 days a week Alternative Days [Pull Ups, Sit Ups, Push Ups, Roman Chair]
Total Workout Time: M/W/F: 2-3 HOURS  T/TH: 1 1/2 HOURS-2 HOURS; All in the Morning around Seven

All I can say is you never really truely appreciate a Ice Cold Beer untill you can't have one!

Good for you bro.  O0  I'm also working out as of about a month ago.  It's not a real strict thing for me even though I should be more serious with it.  I started working out since I'm trying to get into the fire department.  I know if I make it to the academy they will work the hell out of me enough but I figured why not be a little prepared for it.  I was around 235 about a month ago when I started working out.  I've never really been into working out so, honestly , I really don't know what I'm doing.  But I'm taking sort of easy so I don't hurt myself.  I went out and bought a utility bench about a month ago which is basically like a sit up bench that can adjust from sitting up straight to laying flat like a work out bench.  Then I bought a few sets of dumb bells.  I did this to save a little money instead of buying an expensive work out bench, bar, and weights.  It makes things a little harder because when I lay back to do a press with the dumb bells I have to really concentrate so that I keep things even.  But it makes me more focused.  I find, which people have told me I would, that I get a better range of motion with the dumb bells in my work out versus a full bar.  Especially doing a press because I can let my arms come down further since there is no bar to hit my chest.  There were a few people who guided me to use this method with the dumb bells and the utility bench.  I had never heard of it before so I hope I'm not hurting myself.  But anyway, I work out with my weights every other day basically.  I do some presses, curls, squats, butterflies, and basically whatever else I can think of to do with the dumb bells.  Then on the days I don't use the weights I go for a walk around the neighborhood with my son.  I'm fluctuate between 218 and 222 right now.  If I would get more serious about it and start eating a little better I could for sure get the weight I want which is somewhere between 200 and 215.  I just can't help it.  I love to eat!!!  I gave up smoking a year ago when my son was born and I barely have touched alcohol since then also.  I may have a mix drink or a beer rarely if we go out.  I have to have something damn it.  So I guess my thing is food.

Lance, as a free weight freak I can tell you that you don't need too much besides the weights and a bench really.   If you are serious about continuing but unsure about the types of exercises for each body part, see if you can get your hands on a book from Gold's Gym that shows pictures and describes each exercise.  Muscle and Fitness magazine also has good workout guides but they will not cover everything in a single issues or issues.

Sorry Lance, missed this thread somehow.  Book is called Gold's Gym Training Encyclopedia and you can get it on Amazon.  Saw used copies for as low as 92 cents.

Yeah bro, it's the same with me.  It's kind of weird to me because I really don't know much about exercising and dieting so I really don't know how much I'm supposed to lose and when.  But I have noticed that I really haven't lost much weight at all but my waist line has tightened up.  I'm wearing older pants that wouldn't have fit me months ago.

Just Killin' time before I go in for one of the Biggest Exams of my life: ASVAB+FULL MILITARY PHYSICAL.  Right now I believe that I can make the Physical requirements, but I am waiting till the end of the month to get some good weeks in before I go in, always better to overshoot your goal than to undershoot it.  Wearing Gear that makes me look dope lately, feel good that I am looking so much better, it definately helps me role better with the Bald Look.  First of next month, I should have a Update on whether I made the requirments, and what I scored on the Big Exam...

Lance, I stoped looking/caring about what the scale said... I just workout, knowing that I am looking better and getting more fit.  Who gives a rip about weight, I would prefere a Stalky 235 to a skinny 215.  Got to be built for both Show and Go!  Looks like you are well on your way as well!

First day of real weight progress... droped weight, down to about 230lbs.  That even though I spent the Holiday weekend up in prescott with my parents eating nothing but home cooked Everything.  To speak the truth though, my parents eat alot healthier than they use to, so it was nothing all to devistating; all except for the numerous slices of my Mom's Home Made Lemon Merang (forgive me if the spelling is wrong on Merang) Pie.  Man you can taste the difference between store bought and Home Made!

All I got to say is HELL YA!  The work has started paying dividends!  Looking Slier than Ever, and Feelin' like I am finally back into the SuperHero Form!  Again, thanks everybody for the awesome support!  Work Hard, Rock Harder!  8)

Congrats on the progress dude...I know how good it feels to make progress...

When i started working out about 6 yrs ago, I used the bald head (and went "mr. Clean with no facial hair) as motivation to loose weight...since I have a chubby face and the scraped clean look only enhanced it....

it helped.... nothin' to hide behind...

I recommend going the full monty "Mr. Clean" route (of no hair/no facial hair) when someone is trying to loose weight and get into muscle shape...it's great motivation...

and you can't hide behind ANYTHING!

Rock on!!!
I know this is  0~~ but if you want to talk about Lemon Merinque Pie, how about a Lemon Meringue Pie Martini? I posted this drink recipe quite sometime ago, but your note made me remember I hadn't made this in a while. This is clearly a dessert martini, but it does pack a nice little punch to it (recipe makes two drinks):
2 shots Vanilla vodka
2 shots Triple Sec
2 shots sweet & sour mix
3 shots of Half & Half Cream

Combine all ingredients and shake over ice. Strain into two chilled martini glasses. Your significant other will thank you, and you'll be on your way to a great evening.

Congratulations -- keep up the good work.  I know it's not easy, but chiseled features are what work best with a bald head.  You've got youth on your side.  Believe me it will be much harder to drop pounds when you hit your mid-30s, so get the physique under control now.

I am still struggling on getting washboard abs.  Actually I would be happy if I could just get rid of the lovehandles.  It's really frustrating.   On the plus side, though, I did notice the other day that I'm finally starting to get some decent definition in the chest, so I guess I am getting there -- albeit, very slowly.

Actually it would (wasn't in my case though) , if that is motivation to you, that was the point for me, at the time I hated (but was intrigued by the "Mr. Clean" look)...couldn't wait to go back to the balded/ goated look....

but you CAN see results and may find that going back to a goat (or brows) seems to "dirty" for your over all new muscled body...when you get closer to your minds 'perfection" you find you no longer need a crutch or something to hide behind...

that's my take on it...but I still think being with goat looks way cool!

RazorX, you're not ready to NOT have the sly brows....face the fact my friend, you SHOULD go browsless for a couple weeks before leaving the slybrow side...

just like the first headshave, make an evaluation if you llike it or not after a couple weeks or a month...

it suits you dude,really!

It is a cleaner look, I'll admit.  I am on the fence.  One minute I kind of like it and the next minute I don't.   Either way, I',m going to be without eyebrows for a while.  Considering that most people had trouble seeing them when they were actually there, I figure they can be subtly growing back while I try to make up my mind.

Here's something to keep in mind when you are working out.  If you are using low weight and high repetitions you are loosing fat and toning muscle.  If you are using high weight and low reps, you are loosing fat and gaining muscle.  This would cause clothes to fit better without loosing weight.  Just keeping an eye on your weight may be misleading.  It may be better to watch your BMI (body mass index) instead or your weight.  I have a very high metabolism and have problems gaining weight, so I've done a little research on it.  That's my $0.02.  Hope it helps.

OK... Now its getting Frustrating.  I have lost a fair amount of size, noticed in the fact that I am back into my closet putting away the larger sizes and rockin' the Good Gear.  But weight wise, I have remained stationary.  I am two weeks out of getting REALLY pissed.  I drink gallons of Water, I gave up Beer [do something like that & you really want to see results!]...  Cut down on the late night snacking.  I Workout every morning.  Now its come to the point that I am having to give up the last thing that I wanted to, Bread.  Man, I love the fact that I look better, but f**k... I just want the scale to dip down to my old wrestling weight.  I work so hard.  It just gets to you.
Back to the workout.  I should just relax, maybe its just the stress.

Be patient brother, the fact that you have a goal and are sticking to it is great in and of itself. I gave up drinking too, it does suck because thats all my friends do, so other than that I don't need them, ha j/k. But I don't have to worry about spending the next day feeling like dookie.

You'll get to where you want to be, and when you do you will appreciate it more, and so will the ladies  O0 O0

Keep it up, I have been working out for about 10yrs and just took off for about 6mos for various reasons (none were good though), and I feel 100% better, more energy, less stress and over more optimistic towards things...

Being SLY helps too! :*)) :*))

Yosp, I hear you 100%.  I am trying to stay positive.  It is not that I have not been seeing results, I mean if it is any indication that I have lost a good amount of Body Fat % and have put on some muscle, its the fact that the ladies are saying that I am looking better than ever, in combo with the fact that I have yet to loose really a solid pound.  Still bouncing at around 233-235.  Its hard when you feel great about loosing the Fat, but then you jump on the scale and the results [from the scale] that you have been going for are just not coming.  I have finally given up the Bread.  Now I am basically on Corn Tortillas (isn't that bad, I am Hispanic so its not a hard change from what I grew up with) & White meats.  That and Cereal in the morning.  I have cut back on the meals, from four to five to a solid three, with one apple cut up to be snacked on through the day as I get cravings for something.  Still running, Biking, & Lifting.  I am hoping that with the final sacrifice that I had yet to make [giving up bread], that the lbs will finally start falling off.
Lets see, I have given up:
SODA/ENERGY DRINKS
CARBINATED DRINKS
BREAD
BEER
ALCOHOL
FAST FOOD
FATTY FOOD

I:
WORK OUT CONSISTANTLY & HARD
I AM DRINKING IN EXCESS OF 1&1/2 GALLONS OF WATER PER DAY
I DO NOT OWN A CAR, SO I BIKE EVERYWHERE [IN EXCESS OF 1 HOUR A DAY]

Its just hard.  Some can give up half of what I have and loose the weight.  I guess this is just one of those tests that the lord is putting me through to see how much I want the Coast Guard.  Well, I will give up everything to get to the Coast...

I am resolved.  What does not kill me makes me stronger.  I will just work harder, & let the dissappointment fuel me in the gym.  Just got to relax, Stress is a factor for weight gain [maybe a factor for weight retention].

I was going with small meals every 2-3 hours.  I have lost a good amount of fat, my BMI is looking alot better, at the same token, I need to be loosing the lbs, and that just is not happening... I am just cutting back on the meals, I have already cut down enough on how much I eat.  Drinking alot of tea as well... That helps because its a awesome sub for soda, but by the same token, I know Green tea helps raise your matabolism as well.  "Skull"  dr!#k

Welcome to my world, Mr. Clean.  I understand and share your frustration.  I have been working my a-- off for nearly three years now, harder than I've ever worked in my life.  I've gone from 28% body fat to 19%.  I am a lot fitter than I've ever been.  I've built up a lot of muscle, but the scale hasn't budged much and it is frustrating.  And I'm still struggling to get those washboard abs.   It was a lot easier to shed pounds when I was younger.  At least you've still got youth on your side.

If I can offer you some unsolicited advice, the one crucial error you may be making is cutting back on your meals.  You should eat six small meals a day to keep your glycemic levels steady and avoid the peaks and valleys that occur on a 3-meal-a-day regimen.  By eating more often, you keep your metabolism working constantly.  You'll feel more full and less likely to overindulge.

Try to eat some protein with every meal.  It slows down the absorption of the carbs and keeps you feeling full longer.   It can be difficult to get more protein into your diet.  I'd suggest that you start the day with 5 or 6 egg whites (the cleanest and most complete form of protein you can find, and no fat since the fat is all in the yolk) and a slice of whole wheat toast.  A protein shake (I like Myoplex) in the midmorning can keep you going until lunchtime.  Try a little peanut butter with that apple - it provides some protein and some "good" fat.   You don't need to give up carbs, just cut back a bit and try to eat whole grains while avoiding processed carbs like white bread, white rice, white pasta.

Hang in there.  I know it's hard, but I know you can do it.  I wish I were 22 again; I'd probably have had these last few pounds off by now.  Good luck!!

Razor, thanks for the advice.  I am familiar with the Five/Six Meals rule, I was rockin' that the past few months, made it easy to tighten up my BMI... At the same token, the weight was just not dropping.  As soon as I get down to my desired weight [215, my old wrestling weight in High School], i'll be back to five small meals a day, and with Enlistment following, it will be easier to afford the good food to maintain a proper diet.

I am a HUGE protein addict.  I am a fan of the Charred Animal Flesh [ )-m]  That is not a problem.  My key problem was a few months back when I injured myself doing something EXTREMELY LAME, and I could not hit up the Gym for a few months.  Fell out of my routine.  I'm back to it, I just have to maintain my routine, eat proper, etc...

Another thing that I find helping me and it may help you as well:
Getting ready for the day, I know that I am a MAJOR Grazer... I work with that, so I cut up a Whole apple into about 8-10 wedges.  Now I recommend a Apple of Larger size.  I proceed to snack on those through the day when I get a Craving and I am not close to my Meal schedule.  Its REALLY helped me out, because a slice of apple is so much better for you than a soda or a thing of chips as I'm sure you know.

Be young at heart, and your good as I see it.  The younger you are, the more active you will be, thats all you need later in life... Thanks for the advice Bro!

Alright...
I have good news, and it is not that I saved money because I switched my car insurance to Guyco... The good News is that I have reached my goal... for the first time In what I would guess would be around a year, I am at 215lbs... This also means that I can proceed and [finally] take the long awaited physical & ASVAB exam; then proceed to sign the papers and Enlist in the Coast Guard.

It has been a rough 2 or so months... some ups, alot of downs [missing the flavor of good beer & booze for one!]; But I definitly want to say that I could not have done this without you guys behind me.  There were a few moments back there where I hit a plateau, & if it was not for the support, advice, and help from you guys I might have.  I lost a good 20lbs in a little short of a month!  In large thanks to ya'll, my brothers.

The offer stands that If any of ya'll are in my neck of the woods, please hit me up so I can buy a round and enjoy the occasional beverage with good Buds. Speaking of which, I will be in Chicago visiting family around the time of the Taste of Chicago... anyone in that area please hit me up for a round on me!

Thanks my Brothers!  stay Sly, Bald, and Proud.  O0 O:O
