Guys, I'm having a helluva time getting a tan on my melon this year ! :XX I am a pipeline inspector, which is great, because I am outdoors, good pay, good people, exciting work, etc. but I have to wear a hardhat all day. I work 6 - 7 days a week, so there is not much time to let the noggin soak in the rays ! I have tried (and still am) the sunless lotions, but I am less than satisfied with these. I am ALMOST to the point of letting it grow to a #2 buzz again, but I really don't want to. I LOVE being sly and smooth, but at the same time, I HATE the "hardhat tan line" I have going on now. Any advise would be greatly appreciated !!

When you take a lunch break, instead of eating indoors, spend lunchtime outside. Anyway to much is obviously not good anyway. Keep the Sly look you rock it!!

Thanks, Fred. Usually, on most days, we have lunch "on the go", meaning, I have to grab something in my truck on the way to the next lowering in, weld, or whatever. I am going to keep trying to "get some rays" when I can. I really can't stand the thought of hair again. Besides, sly and goatee helps in the "bad ass inspector" role !!!! :*)) :*)) :*))

I'd suggest learning to live with it because it may be too much trouble or flat-out unhealthy to fix the problem. Tan lines are just a reality of life for caucasians during the sunny months of the year. I see people all the time with the tan lines from sunglasses, and while it's not a look to strive for it's just one of things you notice and then move on because you know exactly why it happened.
The only fix would be to darken your head or lighten your face. To darken your head you'd have to miraculously find the perfect sunless tanners that would match the various shades you'll have all summer or expose your skull to the sun to darken it naturally. That's both dangerous and challenging; after I moved to Florida I got hooked on sleeveless shirts and I noticed it took a full year before the tshirt to sleeveless shirt tan line disappeared.
The only other option might be to use a strong sunscreen on the exposed parts of your face so that they fade. That would probably be the healthiest option too because darkened skin = above normal UV exposure.
I still remember that sly guy I saw a decade ago that had a sun burnt face and a pasty white head with the taletell half-moon burnt spot right on his forehead which showed that he was wearing a baseball cap backwards in the bright Florida sun!

I`ve got the same problem -- You just have too try and get some sun at the end of the day or weekends . .
It`s not always easy being Sly . . 8)

It may not be so easy....but is sure is worth it!! O0

Be careful though, too much--basal cella and squamous cell cancer even melanoma--the big bad boy. Pale rather than that, anyday of the week.
From a veteran of over 10, count it TEN, skin cancers.

Well Guys, I guess (?) I have found a solution to the tanning (or lack there of) problem. I think the best thing for me at this point is a no-guard buzz. :XX I just can't seem to get enough sun to even it out, and I have used Jergens Natural Glow EVERYDAY for 2 weeks....nothing! The no-guard buzz gives enough shadow that I don't "glow".
-
Then, to avoid the skin cancer issues, use high strength sunscreen on your face--or you will increase the chances of them on your cheeks, lips, nose and chin. When they take them out, it looks like an acne scar--not much fun. If your face is less tan, the color of the dome from the weekends and the face will even out. Take your time--no rush, really.

Thats my preference at this time also. When completely shaved I try and get a tan to even it all out. But with #0 clipper it seems to not be a problem. Also I can go for two weeks with out cutting again. When the weather gets warmer I'll probably try the razor again.I just find it easier not shaving that often.

You know what guys....ignore my last post. After seeing all the fine lookin' melons on this site, I went in the bathroom, dusted off the trusty Mach 3, and you guessed it; shaved it to the bone! I CAN'T help but prefer the smooth dome! I will just have to find a way to get the tan to even out. I AM A SLY GUY FOR LIFE!!! O0

You`re not alone with that problem --------- B@n%
We will overcome !
-
Did you try the Jergens Express sunless tan ? That worked fast for me. The regular one did not do anything at all.

Just be patient. It takes a while. Your face has had your entire lifetime to build up its tan; your dome will need a little while to play catch up.
I agree with you, though. Stubble in no way compares to a smooth dome. O0

Just got back from 10 days in the Caribbean and my melon got a great tan
Be careful and do it slowly and make sure you use lotion
Took a hat with me all the time so my dome was not exposed more than an hour at a time

I don't tan. I burn violently. I like lathered myself with sunscreen and i still get scorched in the sun. so tanning is a bit tough for me, especially with my pale ass head lol

Keep those vitamin A, E and D vitamin levels up, if you have to supplement with it do it.Aloe helps out alot and the other thing that works great for me is an antioxidant called astaxanthin which is algae that has be ultra exposed and cultivated in sunlight ( I know the production facility is in hawaii ) basically the algae is green and over exposure is turned dark red, which brings out all the antioxidants, free radical eliminators and it's very chemoprotective......I don't get any sunburn period with it.

Get it at any health food store, or you can get it online. Just use the search, Astaxanthin is starting to researched heavily for it's numerous abilites, theres a new study that it's a DHT blocker as well as aiding in prostate support. Read up about it. It's very popular in Hawaii.
Pub Med is always a good read.

I struggle too but if you get out with some sun screen one day a week for up to an hour you'll get the color you want! ;)

I always burn so your better off than me. O0

Hi Fencer,
I am having the same problem. I think I will just keep trying and use spf 35 on my face to help to reduce the redness and hopefully the dome with catch up. I am also sly for life, you do rock the sly look as the other guys have said. :)
-
I am one of the lucky ones. I just go a deep walnut brown O0

I'm in my fourth year of SLYdom and it's only really been this summer that my dome has tanned really well...but then, this is the first proper summer we've had over here for four years... :D
-
I just returned home from a week long vacation to Florida and my dome is all tanned up now! South Beach is a crazy place fellas!
-
I've only been at this for 31 days. I'm using the Jergens moisturizer to match color for now.
-
i am in the protect it over the match it club myself. E oil indoors with other products for moisture and dry skin management out side head lube spf 30
-
Forget the sunless tan, use Bald Guyz Sunscreen SPF 30+ it is a quick drying alcohol based get that does not sweat so so you don't have to wear a hat. It lets tanning rays through and blocks the harmful rays.

I think his point was that he is required to wear a hardhat all day 6dys a week... So the self tanners is an option. I use them during winters. some work better then others. But they do work..
