Hello everyone, nice to meet you. Today, after visiting some places where describe how to save your head properly, I have discovered this forum, so I think that this will be the best place where I can remove all the doubts I have.
I am 22 right know, But in August I will be 23. I started with baldness problems when I was 20, but that did not start worring me until I was 21.
My baldness is quite noticeable. I have enough hair yet, but I know that all of it will get lost before I am 25 or 26. So I decided to lost the embarrassment of being bald at this age and give the next step: remove all the hair have in the head so I do not have nothing to hide.
Physically, there is no serious problem: My head have correct proportions. In fact, I have cut my hair at limit with my hair clipper and the result has been quite satisfactory. Maybe because I was fatter when I started with this, but in 2007 I decided to start in a GYM and since them I have been swimming on the swimming pool all the days xD, so, my face has become more thin.
At this point, you probably think: What is the problem then?
Well, I have the impression (maybe influenced by my relatives and some friends) that a young men like me with a shaved head would not be very pleasant to see, and that would interfere in my live negatively.
Do you think that having your head shaved at this age would not be very nice? What do you think about it?
I am waiting for your answers. And please, forgive me for my grammatical errors. English is not my mother tongue so I have more difficulties to write in this language. However, I understant english quite a lot, so do not doubt on developing your message as much as you want
See you :)

Welcome to the forum- glad you could be here with us. O0
Read through the "Reactions to being bald" page on this forum. Lots of us have had the same feelings you are having now. Good luck- remember, it all comes down to your decision and what you want to do.

Ok, thanks for answering. I will take a look of it later. O0

We have a lot of young guys who can tell you, at least in their social setting, how it affects their lives.
My point is that if you are at a III or higher on the attached scale, at your age, and knowing what I know now, I would take it to the wood.

MPB is not reversable by any sane method, or any other one at all. Don't do drugs, plugs or rugs--it's a waste of money and can be dangerous to your health.

Hi Luixmai! Welcome to the forum.
It looks like I went through almost the exact same process as you! I shaved my head for the first time when I was 23, and honestly I should have done it a year or two before that. According to Saintc's attached scale I'm certainly on my way to the Va (Five A) look. I really don't think I'll mind rocking the MPB look in like 20-30 years, as I think it looks distinguished, but for now it's sly all the way!
There's nothing unpleasant at all about a young man with a shaved head! It looks great and (most) people will react to it positively. My mom didn't discourage me from shaving my head, but she wasn't exactly supportive either. She suggested I just buzz it short. Then I took my hat off and showed her why that would be pretty much unacceptable. After I shaved, she came around and thought it looked good. My dad was indifferent about it and probably secretly wishes he would try it out! (Side note: Curiously, my dad, who is 56, has much less advanced and a different style of MPB than I do! Guess it's from my mom's side of the family.)
My friends and family experienced the same initial shock and surprise that I did, but they came around to the look about as quickly as I did (a week or two maybe?) I got some light-hearted jokes and inquiries, but other than that, all good things.
And of course, most importantly, we get to the reactions from the opposite sex. I have yet to have any girls my age react negatively to my shaved head. If anything they are just curious as to why I did it (and I don't mind telling them "well, I was kind of losing my hair and I thought this would look much better!") and then they usually commence rubbing it.
Just go ahead and shave it off! You'll probably wish you had sooner. And your English is great, BTW!

Welcome!
You want it - do it! 8)
Where I live there are not so many sly guys around, but when I spot one, he's in his 20's in almost any case. Older men seem to like the tight buzz better.

Thanks for you answers, they are really helpful, honestly.
I think I am going to get a NORWOOD V, so you can imagine how my baldness can be.
I have to admit although at first I though to try drugs like Minoxidil and Finasteride, I rejected them (before using them) when I discovered the after effects they had. In addition, knowing that the effects of those product dissapear when you leave them, I thought that following a treatment was a waste of time
I have no worries on shaving my head. I have a very shot hair right now, and that allows me see how my head would be if it would be shaved. And I have to admitt that the result is not bad at all.
I will probably give a try on summer. And If I see that I am comfortable with that style, I will "perpetuate" it :). I have the advantage that when I cut my hear almost completely (We call it level 0 at here) people have seen already how I look like without hair xD
By the way, most of you are americans, no? Is the baldness as spread as it is in Europe? (I am from Basque Country, Spain xD).
-
No, it's not too soon at all.
-
No way man. I started when I was 20 and wish I did back in high school when I was playing football. It would have looked bad ass. Do it to it
-
Well, thanks for you answers, guys. I must leave know, here its 23:56 PM so it is bed time xD
See you ;)
-
Hey mate, im 20 and from the UK (so your side of the world lol) and just gone sly myself...so its defiantly not too soon for you, im loving it O0!
Although i wish i was from Spain or America...having a shaved head makes me get pretty cold as i found out today when it rained heavy ;D
Give it a try dude and keep us updated...
-
give it a try for 30 days and see if you like it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Well, As I said I am from Spain, but of the North of Spain xD. And here, the temperature and climate are similar of UKS. Not completely (We have lot of sunny days), but the cold days are SO cold. ;)
I think that I will give I try on Summer, because on May/June I will probably have a Job Interview (as turistic informer. I have been working on similar jobs since I was 18) and I do not know if appearing with my head shaved would be nice for the interview.

For the job interview you want to be well groomed--frankly it's harder to look well groomed with sparce hair as far as I'm concerned. They will be interested more in clean pressed clothes, shined shoes, clean finger nails--that sort of stuff, and a clean sly dome, that works, as far as I have ever seen. We just had a guy from Quebec wow the interviewer and get the job. So Sly isn't the issue, clean, neat, etc., well put together, the total package.

I think if you are old enough to shave your face, you can give headshaving a try.
If you really do not like it (I think you will), it will grow back to a buzz cut in about a week.
As far as being neat and polished, like saint said, the whole package is what will be noticed.
Don't be sloppy in dress, have a nice tight buzz if you don't want to shave yet.
Come in with confidence, and the rest will fall into place.
Good luck. O0

BillOnBass - - -A very encouraging post
No, you are not to young at all - - -Go shave it

Hi Again, here I am with a new cuestion for you. I am a very hairy man, and I realized that my eyebrows are so hairy, and I think that It would be a very big contrast if I leave them untouched when I shave my head. I think that they make me uglier.
Do you usually do something with your Eyebrows?
-
I have just read through this entire post and thought I would chip in if you dont mind.
I dont think eyebrows pose a big problem at all. I have sometimes wondered the same thing as I am also hairy and have very dark eyebrows so they are quite dominant on my face. Just one of the things that makes me me and you you.
I also dont think 23 is too young. On the ol Norwood Scale I am at or close to a VI if I remember correctly. Basically, nothing more than fuzz on the top. I have been that way since I was about 27 or 28. I suspect, although it didnt bother me much at that time, that i should have shaved at about 23.
As for living in Northern Spain, I took a trip to Bilbao and San Sebastian a couple of years back. I saw plenty of sly guys, with the added bonus of the fact that you spaniards have more latin, darker skin which i think looks great with a shaved head. Not like us sun shy Brits!
I say go for it. You are going to have to confront it at some point. At that point you have options, you can either rock the MPB look which many prefer to do and to be honest is fine, or you can take it to the skin like we have chosen to do. My preference is for shaving as I think it is a cleaner, lower maintenance look. Also - now that I dont have hair I have started playing around with facial hair which ironically I have no problem growing at all - that is fun!
-
23 isnt too young, i shaved right after i turned 28, but i should of shaved at 25, with where iam on the norwood scale,, iam at a IV right now, the thinning is getting worse on top and iam almost 34

agreed
one of my cousins is infertile from taking a combo of hair regrowth drugs and now he just had a hair prodecure at Medical HAir Restoration and it cost him 15000 US dollars after wearing a toupee for 6 months and a transplant at Hair Club, and this cousin is 8 years older than me, he wants to have hair,
and he still ridicules me for having a shaved head,
I will never uses drugs, plugs or rugs,

I live in Memphis in the USA and there are tons of sly guys here...with all types of skin colors, at all ages and at all levels of body hair and facial hair. Everyone looks good. Or at least nobody looks bad simply because of those issues.
The most important thing is for you to be happy about yourself and I've found that most of the guys I know start to feel more confident about themselves within a couple of months of their first shave. That first moment can be a shock though.
So, give it a try. There's nothing to lose. Worst case scenario is that you have to wait about a week or two to get back to where you are today.
-
I don't think 23 is too soon. There's lot of young men who are bald.
My only regret about my shaving head: i should have done this one or two years earlier. If you feel that it's the right moment to shave your head, do it. It's useless to wait months or years and to worry about our hair. Just shave it!

I agree....it's the whole package and how you carry yourself..
-
I'm 18 and shaving my head so you got 5 years on me.
-
Ok guys, sorry for being offline for long time, but I have been quite busy those days. Sadly, I could not get that job :'(, but well, now I am waiting the answer of other interviews I had on this days.
And well, I think that this weekend or on the next, my brother in law will come and he will help me buzzing my hear and, maybe, shaving it.
Thanks for all ^^

WHAT ! ? :: I thought cartoon characters were in high demand . . . .

22 here. Your never too young to be bald. Just look at babies.
-
Some babies do not want to be bald though, those are the ones that cry all day :) We were the happy babies, that's why we are here to reunite ;)
Anyway, about the eyebrow question: there is Andre Agassi with very dark eyebrows who is considered handsome. And I think there are more examples. I'm from Europe as well. Anyway, what was the question?
O right, 23 too soon... Not at all! I'm 23 myself. Although I am not sly myself I have had the shortest buzzcut, no gaurd, for over three years now I guess.
-
I'm 23. I honestly look and feel closer to 23 sly than I do with hair.
I chose to "rock it up" a little bit, as Daughtry was a bit of my inspiration, and changed my wardrobe/general style a little bit. It helped me feel like I was giving myself an edge rather than succumbing to a problem. And a 23 year old can't really relate to Bruce Willis, if you know what I'm sayin.
I haven't had any negative comments about it other than my sister calling me "very intimidating", which I took as a compliment really.

Furthermore, nobody is going to mistake you for anything other than a 20-something.
-
23 is not too soon. I started shaving my head about 2 weeks ago and I'm just about to turn 20 if that is any consolation. Nothing wrong with being young and bald.

Haha so true.

IM 22
Get shaving - you will LOVE IT

I am 23 and I went sly in January after I graduated from school in December. On my first visits back after a 3 month trip to Asia I got a lot of comments as you would expect. I way say 95% of the girl comments were positive. No one gave me negative comments but I kinda took what they said that way. I actually got more negative comments about shaving my beard but I had to for the Masters golf tournament. So go for it. The only girls I think it might have a negative effect is when I am talking to freshman on visits back to school but lets be honest here I probably don't need to be.
-
First time when I shaved my head I had just turned 17. I've been bald for over a year now and I'm feeling good! If you're even a little curious about the bald life, just shave it off. If you don't like it, you just have to.. do nothing! Your hair will grow back. Good luck!
-
i always saw it as, if you're old enough to shave your face, you're old enough to shave your head
