Title: YARD work... have U started???
Post by: warhawk on April 15, 2010, 04:26:01 PM
hello fellow chrome domes:  it's finally spring time here in beautiful pensacola. O0   which means... yard work!  i've already got my lawn looking summer green.  i "laid" out the weed-n-feed a couple of weeks ago & have been watering my lawn every 2 days.  last year... i replaced the mulch with some lava rocks.  the lava rocks were expensive but i never have 2 replace it every year like mulch O0.

so... how 'bout U?  have U started on your yard work?  what's your story?  on a side note... 2 our sly brother (baldandre) if U R reading this please post up your current home landscaping.  4 those of U who didn't know baldandre is an "artist" when it comes 2 landscaping.

WARHAWK O0

I posted in another thread that weed eating takes up the majority of my weekends 3/4 of the year. I'm only a few hours North of you, Warhawk, so you probably know how I feel.  :Xo!

That solitary cabin on 100 acres in Montana sounds better and better each and every year. Maybe that dream will come true one day.  ;D

Yep, springtime. Yardwork. My plans today were to mow my yard which needs it bad.

I was outside earlier and froze! It is 40 degrees, and setting here right now I see SNOW FLAKES coming down!! :Xo! :Xo! :Xo!

So, no I am not getting any yardwork done today.

Oh yea; It was about 82 degrees Thursday and tied a record high.

Already mowed the lawn twice, cleaned up all the flower beds, pruned the roses, mulched all the beds,  and planted new perennials.  We had an exceptional warm spell here so it was a great time to get the spring yard cleaning done.   After the long, long winter we had it is great to see green and the colors of the spring flowers.

Haven't started yet... but soon...

Mostly waiting for the ground to dry out a bit more.  That, and waiting for some hot, sunny days, so that I can work on getting some color and beefing up my Vitamin D intake all while doing the yardwork!  (The only kind of multitasking I can get into!) :-)

A little, but next weekend we'll do quite a bit since the oak pollen has finished, and we need to get it cleaned up before the buck moth caterpillars [stinging] start up.

Score:  Todd: 23,987 Weeds: 0  -- spring is weed season here in Portland.   I spent the weekend weeding, edging, mowing, and tanning my dome.    Finally enough sun to take my scalp to the same color as my face.   Yard work is great therapy.

I'm a former Pensacolian (long ago, tho' brother yet lives there) and a current NY Metro-ite.  I have let my tiny yard get seriously unkempt since an accident two years ago.  To me, not the yard.  Am "relatively" healed, but although the body is strengthening the will to do anything out and about remains very feeble.  The winter brought down dead branches and branchlets that clutter the property, and snow did damage to shrubs such as my one lilac, but I see (from my bedroom window) that even the split and drooping branch has successful flowers at the moment.  I do plan some work, but although today is a perfect day of sun and not too warm, the urge to "pick up sticks" is apparently off doing something else, elsewhere.  It's certainly not here inside my fence.

Talking w/ a guy yesterday with the ultimate "bad gardner" story.  He had hired them to come this week and do a whole yard liquid fertilizer job.  Well, after they finished the job, and were walking up front removing the equipment, the plants up front where they started weren't doing too well--wide spectrum herbicide was sprayed instead--killed everything, every last plant.  Talk about a mad homeowner, a troubled liability insurer, and a gardner w/ a really bad reputation in the neighborhood!

I started on my front yard a few weeks ago and got up most of the leaves that blew in since last Fall.  I'm on the east end of the street and most of the winds come from the west; so I get "everybody's" leftovers  :*))
So the guy with the hole maker was going to come by today and aerate my lawn, until Mother Nature pulled a fast one and dumped a bunch of snow early today.  ;D  Springtime!  Gotta love it  :*))
The snow will melt in a couple of days and we'll play cat and mouse with the lawn guy and he'll eventually punch all of those holes in the lawn.  People say it's important for the lawn to breathe.  I think my raking up all of those stupid dirt plugs does more for the lawn than all of those little holes.  ;D

I got a good start with the back yard, and then it rained before I could do the front.....has been raining pretty much ever since. So, back yard is getting there.....front yard qualifies for Foxworthy's "Redneck Yard of the Week"

*Finally* got around to getting the lawn mowed this weekend.  The grass was so tall, the whole process felt a little like going on safari!  :-)

But it was warm and sunny out - perfect weather for yard work!
