Oops. I misread this thread originally.
I worked with a very young man who recently passed away from cancer of the mouth. I suggest you find some way to kick the habit permanently. The saddest part of it all....his wife is employed by the American Cancer Society.
I know it's tough to kick a bad habit, but that's pretty powerful motivation.
-
Why don't you talk to your doctor and see if there's anything -- nicotine gum, etc -- that can help wean you off that crap . You really do need to break this habit for good; it's a dangerous one.
Good luck with it; we all know you can do it.
-
I say kick it too. :x! I did. I've been seven years without it. I smoked and dipped for 13 years. Dumbest thing I ever started. :/O
-
I used to dip all the time in high school and a little bit in the beginning of college. Usually during baseball games because I played center field no one could really see me and sometimes in class. As of recently I only throw one in about once or twice a month as I am well aware of the risks. Everyone has something though; I don't smoke, I eat healthy and run/workout every single day. Everyone has a guilty pleasure but this is one I don't plan on stopping anytime soon but as I said before no more than once or twice a month.

Addicted to chew and snuff for 20 years. I put down the can Jan 12, 2009. I had tried to quit in the past with the gum and lozenges and they didn't help me at all. It was only cold turkey that did it. Good luck, bud.

Its a tough habit but you can do it. I never dipped but smoked from 17 til I was 32 and decided to time quiting with shaving, so far its held well and has been exactly 1yr and 1 month for both. Even if you don't get something as bad as oral or throat cancer you will eventually be looking at some extreme dental bills and some painful procedures. One of the guys where I work has been doing the dipping/smoking thing nonstop for almost 25 years and he's going to have to get bone grafts in his jaw. Don't forget things like Chantix, its not the best thing in the world but it does work.

Well I think I just put my foot in my mouth in regards to it being an addiction ;D and I do appreciate everyone's concern, I'm not at all addicted however I do use it when I'm at work at times or when I'm walking here and there, it's more of a social thing for me for example when I was a doorman and someone offered me a cigarette I would have one or when someone offers me a beer I'll have one.....it's hard to explain, I don't have an addictive personality persay but yeah chewing can be nasty and mouth cancer is some real nasty s!@#.
Thanks for the intervention everyone, now someone is supposed to reply that I'm in denial about the actual addiction.

The fight is one day at a time. Don't think week, month, the rest of your life. You just have to do it one day a t a time.

To all who have used, occassionally use or are thinking about using "smokeless tobacco" products--go to this site, read, mark, & learn--maybe bookmark it for everytime you even think about an "occassional" plug:

Warning: it is not pretty, it's not pleasant, but it does give valuable information on symptoms you need to be aware of if you have used or are using these products.

Congrats Shadow on kicking the habit!

Makes me glad never to have even smoked!
Well done on kicking the habit, just got to make sure it is firmly in touch now!

one day at a time is right. Don't ever set a target, or think too far ahead. I used to smoke about 25 cigs a day, and I gave up without any help whatsoever after using gum etc in the past and failing.
Four years ago I quit, but it was hard going. You just gotta tell yourself 'I did it today: let's try tomorrow...' Before you know it you'll be free! 8)

Ever since I was on a Vo-Tech trip in 8th grade (electronics fair or something) and the kid next to me was trying dip, for the first time, SWALLOWING all of his spit; I didn't like the stuff much.
Oh, did I mention he hurled all over my leg. We had to stop and have the the other 50 kids wait while I tried to clean up and still smelled like puke the rest of the day.
And @mango
SKOL! (Scandinavian for cheers!)

Good God almighty! :o :o If those pictures don't put people off using that stuff, nothing will.

This thread is just what I needed today. I just took the last chew in a can I had last night. I had quit for several years and started up again. I've quit and started back up many times.
