Hey guys
Just wanted to say this is an excellent site. The support, ideas, forums and everything is really great. I have been coming here for the past few years to check it out. I'm 22 and have been balding since I was 15 .. yes really.
Many meds and embarrassing cover up jobs later I have decided to embrace it. I have been shaving it to a #4/5 for the past year or so. Last night i said to my girl I was going to shave it all off (no guard) and she said great and did it for me.
Just spent some time out in the Aussie sun getting some colour on there and loving it.
Thanks heaps guys!

Welcome revived! Don't forget the sunscreen. O0

Hey revived welcome to the site! Agree with previous posters -- take it down to the wood with a blade -- the feeling is incredible. And sunscreen -- there are few things more painful than a sunburned scalp. What part of Oz are you in? Incredible country -- I lived/worked in North Sydney (Manly Beach) for the better part of 1995/1996.

GOOD SHOW MATE ! :D

pdxtodd, lucky man working/living in Manly, I'm just a few beaches up in Narrabeen, where are you based now?
any tips on perspiration? Just went for a run and sweated down my face like never before! (had sunscreen liberally applied, thanks for the tips)

Glad to have you onboard revive. You’ve heard the advice, now the only thing for you to do and shave it off completely down to the bone and enjoy the freedom of being bald. Embrace it with confidence. It’s a great feeling and it looks great. You’ll be amazed at the positive comments on your new bald head. And it will boost your confidence 100% you’ll only wished you had done it along time ago. That was my feeling when I first went bald. Can’t seem to let it grow out again, I’m bald for life now. It’s even great when your girlfriend supports you being bald and loves it just as much as you do congratulations. My girlfriend always put me to sleep when she caresses my bald head. She loves it, goes crazy about it and just enjoys it as much as she can. Can’t keep her hand off my head. She loves the barely grown stubble in the evenings, but she craves the smooth baldness during the day.
Perspiration has never been a problem for me unless I’m exercising or out in the sun. Sunscreen seems to make you dome sweat on hot days. I prefer not to use anything on my head. It feels better that way and has never had problems with sunburns. I guess I’m not in the sun much.

Updated pic of my number nothing!
Walking from home to the train station this morning through uni i felt a bit uneasy. Got a few looks but think they were for the right reasons (heres to hoping). Work people didn't even notice (as i had the no guard done since last week) and just got on with. Checked the mirror a few times to make sure it was still me.. On the way home saw a fellow sly guy at the station. We both looked at each other for a bit then smiled - think he might well be from this site as looked really familiar!
Think I look a bit tougher now as people seem to be a lot nicer.. ?! "better be nice to sly bald guy" thoughts instead of "don't need to worry about the balding dude" thoughts... not sure if this is something really happening or me over analysing it but its interesting to see how peoples perceptions of you change so quickly
-
Wow, looking good and cool with that shaved bald head. Yes you do look tougher and people will treat you with more respect especially if your dressed in conservative clothes. We all knew you were going to love your newly shaved head and will enjoy it from now on. Keep it sly brother, good luck and congratulations.

Congratulations!
Very good looking smooth shaved bald head.

it makes a great difference to be completely shaved: looks really good. O0
-
thanks guys! am enjoying it!
usmcpelon, what do you mean exactly by conservative clothes...?
-
Man, I wish I looked that good with no hair!
(By the way I think what he means by "conservative clothes" is just well-dressed... polo shirts, button downs, etc. instead of say, hoodies and sweat pants)

Hairtoday is about right. When I say conservative clothes, I mean dressy clothing. A white or baby blue shirt, dress slacks etc. I think your clothing compliment your shaved bald head very well, and peoples reactions are more positive if your wearing the right clothing. I'm not much of a blue jean person, and I alway wear business type clothing becuase of my line of work. But I alway get great reveiws and comment.
A cousin who just went bald, but always wear blue jeans and black t-shirt told me most people look at him as if he were a member of a gang and their reactions are hostile. I must be right.
-
I agree on the 'conservative clothes' thing: just 'smart casual', you don't have to be dressed up. It projects a more friendly image: sharp and sly. 8)

Really, so if I wear a "baby" blue shirt and sport some hagar slacks a.k.a. conservative clothing that people will show me more respect as well as more positive reaction than less say than I wear blue jeans, a hoodie and my danner boots ??? there is absolutely no validity to that whatsoever. I'm as conservative as they come and I was taught it is how you carry yourself and as well walk with a purpose.

I have also been wondering about what clothing would look better with a sly dome. Obviously there are certain clothes that are going to suit sly guys better. Like i saw in another thread I think we can all pull off a suit pretty damn well. "sly and sharp" as has already been said in here.
As for day to day clothing I have felt the need since going sly to keep myself well groomed and have become more aware of what clothing I wear.. I have just been dressing WELL. Clothes that match, are co-ordinated, nothing too difficult, just making sure I look good and feel good about what I'm wearing, thats probably all you need to worry about. If it feels good, then do it!!
p.s hairtoday - you should change your screen name to hairyesteryear!! and i think you rock the sly look.. do yourself a favour and get in the sunlight and take a pic.. you'll be pleasantly suprised!!
-
Clothes can enhance a certain look but I'm with Ryan, it's about your presentation. Dressing up like something you're not is for posers!

I agree. And I haven't really changed what I wear around the house or around town or at work. But I think if somebody dresses in a certain way and has a shaved head, people might peg them as a skinhead, or hoodlum, or whatever. Just like they might assume somebody with a certain hairstyle and certain clothes is something else... hair or no hair, people make quick judgments, it's human nature... threat assessment, a survival skill.
But I also think that if you don't have hair to distract people, then their eyes are drawn more to other parts of you, like your face, body, and clothes, so they might pay more attention to what you're wearing than they otherwise would. I know that I'm scrutinizing myself more... I've suddenly noticed that a lot of my suits for work don't really fit me too well... gonna make a trip to the tailor soon!

Yeah, I sort of thought my original name was dumb but didn't think I could change it... I'll have to think of something clever. And yeah, I should take a better pic... I'll be outside tomorrow BBQ'ing with some friends after work and getting a tan, I'll snap one then!

i think clothing says a lot about the person. The way one carries himself is related to clothing. Lets be honest, certain clothing is going to provoke different responses. Ones clothing has to do with his/her presentation. I don't think anyone implied they were dressing like something they're not, or 'posing' they are just wanting to take pride in their presentation. is all 8)

I have not really changed what I wear, but SBG's do look great in shirt and tie. I wear to work most days of the week. Can't see your shaved dome. Am I not lookin in the right place? I Love being SLY :@`
