Title: First try with the HeadBlade this morning...
Post by: omegapd on April 04, 2010, 02:10:54 PM
The Easter Bunny left me a Head Blade in the Easter basket this morning, so I just gave it a shot...

First off, I like it being Atra compatible. I have an Atra razor and use it occasionally on my face, but may go to it full time now since I can use the blades for both things. Trying to keep it simple...and the Atra shaves my face pretty well, so I have no complaints there.

I used the HB in the shower with a pre-shave of Neutrogena Face Wash to soften the hair and clean up and then lathered up with some Aveeno Shaving gel. I remembered to use very little pressure and tried to keep the little wheels on my head at all times. It did a good job on the top of my head with a front to back pass (this is how I normally shave my head because if I go against the grain in the back- back towards front- I get razor bumps). The sides of my head is where I need a lot of work...it left a few nicks and one decent sized cut trying to work around my ears. I may take someone else's advice on here and keep my Atra close by to do the sides if I can't figure out a better way of using the HB. The shave was very fast and very close, though. Probably the closest shave I've had to date.

So, overall, I think the HB will be a big part of my head shaving routine once I work out the little kinks I had. Hopefully the old saying "it can only get better" will apply.  ;D

The headblade is an amazing tool in the arsenol of head shaving products.  With some time & practice it will be like second nature.  I would highly recommend giving the sensor excel blades a try if you still experience with the Atra blades.  A lot of guys here will agree that the Sensor blades are somewhat more forgiving than the Atras.

I use an M5 Magnum for the face and neck and I also go around the ears with it. I don't know why but I never could get clean around the ears with the HB.
I echo what dawgfan said about the Sensor blades. Right now I am using the HB triples (don't like the twins.....blood city) but at the point that I am out of them I have an unopened package of Sensor carts waiting. Different adaptor but works just as well. Personna also makes Sensor compatible carts, I guess a couple of other companies do, too.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of the HeadBlade! Recently I tried shaving my head with my M5 just for kicks. WOW! What an awkward experience after using the HB for almost three years.

Congratulations! The first time I used the HeadBlade, I looked like I had lost an argument with a mountain lion... I was a bloody mess. HB and I get along just fine now but it took me a couple of tries to get the hang of it.

I love the HeadBlade!  It is a little tricky around the ears but you'll develop a method as you get used to it.  O0

I'm a Headblader too. There is a learning-curve. Experience will do it.
Around my ears I use my Fusion.

Just take it easy with your first few shaves with the HB. That will help with the learning curve. I also second what others have said about the Sensor blades. They are very easy with regards to rinsing between passes.

The easter bunny was good to you!  Like the other said - it takes a few times to get the knack of using it.   I haven't cut myself since the first week of using my HB.   I use my fusion around my ears.

I use my headblade most of the time but from time to time I'll use the Fusion. I love looking at the headblade sport, I keep it proudly displayed in my bathroom.

Every one already covered what I was going to say!  Gotta love SBG... Thanks for giving us a try, (and thanks to whoever was the gift-giver!)

Definitely give the HeadSlick mentholated shave cream a try.  I think everyone around here will vouch, it's a staple in the shaving routine.  We have a lot of guys write us that say even their wives/girlfriends use it on their legs.  Basically, it's awesome.  And let us know if you try the HeadShed pre-shave exfoliator - I'm interested to know how it compares to other pre-shave products you use.

Thanks again, and happy shaving!

Thanks for all the replies. Still using it and no cuts since the first go-round. Not sure if it'll stay part of the routine or not, but I like it well enough.  O0
