Hello everyone!!!! I have been lurking around for about a month and the new S4 give away enticed me to join so I thought introductions might be in order.
I live here in Tennessee with My wife and 3 boys. I still have hair :px. Not quite sly yet as I promised my wife I would wait until after Easter and the birth of our fourth son. Which means I have about 3 weeks left of hair. I have been losing my hair since I was 19 (now 33) and I don't really care but since I work construction (asphalt) I have started to burn the top of my head. :Xo! My solution is to shave it and wear sunscreen. Problem solved, next.
I have also noticed that people no longer use the flash on their camera when they take my picture.
I am a bit nervous. :-[ But I do believe that the 30 day trial is in order. I hope to join the ranks of Sly by the end of April. I will post some new pics then
Greeting to everyone and thanks for all the advise you never knew you gave!!!

Welcome aboard! You will love the new look (your belated Easter present to yourself!)
-
Welcome Tennessee! Cute kid! I have three boys. I think there must be some correlation between raising all boys and losing hair. :D
You will enjoy the sly side of life. Read the Head Shaving section to get tips on your soon to be head shaving routine. A good routine can make all the difference!!
AND, the 30-day rule is a must! O0
All the best!

Welcome. Good luck with the new look, after Easter. You'll love it.

Welcome, you're going to love it!

And I don't know if you realize it but you hit the "Sunburn Ball" out of the park. In just a few weeks, you'll be saving your skin from cancers and precancerous lesions--that's really a "Problem solved.1" First Class post, BTW & congrats on the four guys--you're setting a good example for them too if they get the mpb gene. Welcome to SBG!

Welcome Tennessee. Congrats on #4. I heard a comedian years ago say that you're not really parenting until you're outnumbered... you go from man-to-man to zone defense! I agree, and I'm sure you can probably relate. One of the major benefits of slickdom is not having to smear sunscreen in your hair and hope that you did a good enough job that you won't burn, which hurts like a mother. Post some slick pics when you do the deed. You'll look fine!
-
Go for it: what else can we say? You'll probably love it as much as the rest of us, and you'll know you did the right thing! O0

Welcome
I have friends that live in Franklin (not far from you ) beautiful place - - - - I love Tennessee
-
Thank you all for such a warm welcome!! I am considering letting my oldest two boys (4 and 6) do the "0" buzz before the shave and putting the video on youtube. If I do and the video is good I will post up a link. Might be a little dangerous. :-\
Thanks again Sly Guys 8)

Although this may not be quite right, as far as SEC football rivalries go, I, fencer, from Alabama (roll tide!! O0) would like to welcome you to the brotherhood !! :D :D :/O :D

Welcome along! The 30 day rule definatley works, give yourself and others a chance to get used to your new look, you will love it and so will your family!

Another welcome , brother. And congrat's on the new addition! It's a great site here and the guys are awesome. Glad to have you aboard! Sounds like you are makin' yourself right at home. ...
-
It seem to be easy to make yourself at home here. All of these guys (and the ladies) I have spoken with are really great. They are all welcoming, insightful, and not at all pushy. I am glad to be here. Thanks again.

Welcome Tennessee! Four boys! Your wife is a saint!
You're going to love being sly. I wake up every morning and celebrate the fact that I am now in control of my hairloss :-)
-
Welcome, Tennessee. Plenty of good advice here as you prepare your Easter "egg." Good luck and give it a 30-day go once you take it down to the wood!
-
So, what's up my man? Maybe i missed it, but have you done the deed yet? Just wondering!
-
No, you did not miss it. It is taking my wife longer to get used to the idea than I thought. I am now down to no gaurd on the sides and back but still have 1/2+ on top. I suppose I am in the work it down to nothing stage.
One day soon, I hope!

Hey Tenn !
Ahhh, four sons and married at age 33? Count your blessings and not hair folicles ! I guess if I had sons, they'd be MPB by now like me but I can't dwell on what did not happen. I only dwell on good stuff ... like this SBG Site. Glad you joined ! Hope to see you minus the ball cap real soon? ----Stasiu

LOL It's just hair! Sometimes wives need to be pushed into it. Mine wasn't feeling it. Then one day, I just did it and she has been OK with it. Heck she buys me new shave creams now. 8) Besides if your down to no guard, it won't take a week to grow back.

Sounds like it's time for an "accident" -- the guard came off the clippers, the barber misunderstood and cut my hair too short, etc. More than one way to skin a dome. >:D

LOL That's what I did! But I really did forget to put it on!

I had just gotten my hair cut at the barbershop a couple of days earlier. I'd been getting it cut to a #1.5 on top. I'd planned on going to #1 and wimped out. I regretted it when I got home. A few days later I decided it was something I could do myself. I bought a set of clippers but found that the #1 attachment didnt' take any hair off at all. It seemed to be leaving the hair longer than the barber's clippers did. So the only way to go shorter was to take the guard off. I didn't realize how short it would be until after I ran it over the middle of my head. It was about as bald as you can get without actually using a blade. Not what I wanted, but I had no choice but to take the rest off. Later that evening I decided that I might as well shave it clean with a blade, since I was practically bald anyway.
Unfortunately, there was no SBG forum in those days, so I made the mistake of letting the hair grow back.

Not me. I kept doing it ;D I was talking to a friend of mine tonight and he asked me how long I had been Sly. I told him almost 7 years. My wife piped up "No it's almost 8, Ethan(my oldest) was one when you cut it all off and he just turned 9" Glad she's keeping up with it! So next month will mark the 8 year anniversary of my "accident" :*))
-
I'm coming up on 7 years since I've been shaving consistently, but it's been almost 9 years since that first shave.

One day soon, I hope!
Ordinarily I would be urging you to follow the "Ask for forgiveness, not permission!" But, considering your large family--for these times--a new baby and all the adjustments that brings even though you and your wife are obviously very well organized to handle a crowd, I have to agree that for now, perhaps a slow but steady progression to sly is in order. I can understand that you have have added to your personal stress regarding mpb by being mentally ready to go sly but having to act otherwise for the sake of family adjustment on much more serious matters.
At some point however, you're going to have to decide to go forward to sly--if it is only to prevent yet another painful and potentially dangerous sun burn incident. Be on the lookout to take advantage of articles on the long term skin cancer hazards of sunburn that begin to pop up in the press and on television and remind her that your head would be better off, safer, healthier Sly, than burned. Be ready to do the deed, the instant she gives the slightest indication that she's ready, and please, just shave it, don't ask if she's sure she's okay at that point. :D
