Title: My First Car
Post by: Robmeister on March 21, 2007, 08:21:39 AM
OK.... It would be interesting to know everyone's various FIRST car.

This would be one you were either handed down through yer family....one yer family helped you buy (or bought for you)......or one you bought yerself.

I don't think it should include mom or dad's car that you borrowed on a regular basis.

Here's mine:

'63 Ford Galaxy
2-door
260 small block V8
3 speed manual trans on the steering column ("three on the tree") - converted it to the floor.

Looked EXACTLY like the squad car on Andy Griffith except mine was a 2 door.

1984 Chevy Caprice Station Wagon

A.K.A. "The Love Wagon"

Beige
4 door with hatch back
Fits 9 with Gunner seat facing backwards (10 if you squeeze)
Put all the seats down and you can fit a small mattress. Great for road trips.

Was a big hit at college even though it was falling apart becuase we took the party with us!

Mine was a hand-me-down from my my once she got her new mini-van.  It was a silver Ford Escort.  4-door.  Manual 5 speed.  It was actual pretty nice.  I'm definitely not complaining because compared to what some of the other guys were driving at the time I think I lucked out.  A lot of my friends back then use to say, "at least you car could actually pass for your car.  We have cars that look like they belong to our mothers."  It served it's purpose for quite a few years.

Hey schro, before my mom got the Escort, which she eventually handed down to me, she had a real dark ass blue Pinto.  I don't even know what color it was other than some sort of blue.  But it did the job as well.  My mom actually cried as it was being taken away as a trade in for the Escort.  Not sure what we got for trading it in.  Maybe a nice little key chain or something like that.  Just kidding.  ;D  I guess she had been through some stuff with that car but I'd be damned if I would cry over that thing.

1978 RS Camaro with a 305 V8, 2 barrel carb, Crager Mags, Shift Kit (Automatic), Metallic Blue.  I was the second owner, the first was my grandma who bought it new off the lot.  My grandma mentioned she needed something easier to get in and out of, so my dad traded her his old company car - a Pontiac 6000 - for the Camaro.  All of the kids drove it as their first car but I am once again the owner.  It has been upgraded to a 350 with a 4 barrel carb.

Mine was a '65 Ford Fairlane 500 with a 355 and a trunk that would hold a Mafia family.   Had a flaking blue paint job, but could make the 4 hour trip to and from college with five coeds.

Yeah, it was a good car. Glad I was growing up in the Bay Area. Vinyl seats + no a/c = an uncomfortable ride. But you're right, a Pinto is no reason to cry. I think we donated our Pinto to some type of charity when we got rid of it.

Thing is, I used to work in a liquor store in high school (yeah, real f**kin surprise, huh?) and I remember delivering kegs in it. Almost cracked the back window several times.

I know that...
I used the back of the car for that purpose just once. It was actually quite the bold move .... put the hatchback up. It was warm that evening and it was a secluded spot.  O0
