Before I went totally bald, I had a flat top and high and tight for awhile. I used an electric on the sides and back to keep it very short. The worst problem I had was awful razor burn...on the back of the neck where those bumps come up.

So, for me, an electric just made the problem worse there.

I have had some success with an electric and I do use a Panasonic ES8243 occasionally when I'm feeling rushed or I just need a touch-up. I have had razor burn problems with it when I use it dry. So I've gone to an old friend, Williams Lectric Shave. It provides just enough lubrication so I don't get the burn and it has a decent smell unless you wash it off. Be sure to rinse the blades well after use, though, because I have read that there is something in it that causes corrosion if left on the blades for too long.
The Panasonic is also a wet/dry so it can be used with shave cream/gel or in the shower.
My usual weapons in the war against hair, though, are the HeadBlade with HB triples for the skull and an M5 Magnum for the face.
Maybe twice a day is just too much at this point.

I sometimes use electric for a change. Mine is a dry/wet Panasonic, and to me, there's not much difference to razor in terms of smoothness or razor burn.

I only do my head once a week and don't mind the stubbly look.  However, when I first was experimenting with the whole process and was trying to get the shiney look.  I never found an electric that could do the job as well as a regular blade.  Even for my face, I tried many diffrent electric shavers and none were as good as a blade.
