First, welcome , Yo picked a good pae to come to for advise and support. I think many guys have gone through this type of thing where thier hair was thier calling card, and time just sort likes to take what it wants from us. But learning to accept it can be a timely thing . You might wann try a new style, something to get yourself into. I guess depending on how much thining is going on can help determin what you'll wanna do now. You can try a buzz look, or go sly all the way. But no matter what ya do, having confidence in yourself will prove to be very important.  When & if you choose to shave, treat it as re-newing yourself.  I know the other guys here will be able to maybe give more, or better advise. But I can say keep coming back, the support here is great, and many of us become friends, its a brotherhood I'd say.

Two ways, (1) embrace the genetic fact that you will be bald and get in front of it; or (2) go bald to a bozo ring hair by hair by hair.  That's it.  It's only hair.

First off, I want to thank you Sargeant Voll for your service to our country.  You are appreciated more than words can express.

Now I have to tell you I am bald by choice. So I can't relate to your hair loss, but believe me there are many on this site that can relate and they are willing to give any info or advice you could ever need about your insecurities.

Where I can relate is my hair was also my "calling card".  I have really dark red hair and I used to spike it and always recieved compliments about it.

I went with the sly look because I like the look.  I made this descision on my own and didn't tell anyone I was going to do it.  Safe to say people were surprised.  I didn't ask if they liked it or not.  They will accept it or not, I'm not going to try to talk them into liking it.

If they see your happy then the people that love you for you will be happy for you.  I have no doubt in my mind you have the confidence for this.    Fight your doubt and your confidence will prevail.

Good luck with your descision and stay safe.

Scott

Welcome fiftycrushplan.   Thank YOU for serving our country.   I appreciate your sacrifices and service to our country.   Without men like you our country would be a very scary place.

As for your hair loss, I can tell you from personal experience is that the pain and agony that we all went through is real, its painful, its agonizing, its depressing, and its avoidable.   Most of us have gone through feeling as though the hair on the top of our heads define how society and others view us.   We're all products of the cosmetics industry - where good looks are defined by how much hair we have and how we wear it.    The reality is that hair doesn't define who we are, how we feel about ourselves, and how others perceive us unless we let it take control -- and most of us have at one point or another let our hair take control of our lives.    I was there, I lived it, I spent tens of thousands of dollars over the past 36 years combating it, and during those years I felt absolutely miserable.

What I've learned from this message board is that every guy here has experience the same feelings, and those who took the step and cut it all off experienced the freedom and release from the pain, agony, depression, and despair.    Its something you have to experience for yourself and its not something that is easily conveyed through words alone.

My suggestion is to try it.  You can always grow what you have back - but you can't experience the freedom and power until you put a blade to your head and take control.   You won't regret it - in fact your only regrets will be that you agonized over the decision for too long.

Report back soldier.  I have faith that you will make the right decision and will move on with your life.

Thank you again for your service to our country.  May God watch over you and protect you.

Try Jergens Natural Glow lotion.  The Express version works in about 3 days.  And no skin cancer!

Yes, your scalp will be whiter than your face and whatnot, it really doesn't take that long to even out.  Like pdctodd said, try Jergens Natural Glow.

What you do in the Army, fiftycrushplan?

Stay away from tanning beds. Grills are good for chicken not for men.

Welcome Sgt Andrew.  We appreciate your service.

Going sly isn't much of a step from your "boot" haircut.  That extra 1/16th inch seems like a big deal, but if you go "boot" for a couple weeks, then go sly, it will be such a non-issue that you will be surprised.

Take it from someone who has been there.  Between being shot at, and going sly, I agonized more over going sly.  But it turned out not to matter at all.
